RT @juliagapowell One of my most successful times with mum was looking at her old photos together. It’s not the same for everybody, but mum took comfort from the old familiar pictures and the memories they triggered. Great topic for #AlzChat

We made family photo books on @Shutterfly for my 88 yr old Mom (who lives w/Dementia) and she loves them! She never tires of looking at photos of babies. I also made her a Busy Box for when we go on drives. She likes to pick up the items and we talk about them together. #AlzChat

#AlzChat RT @derekfi77174766 Taking day trips back to where the person living with dementia used to live is also a very good activity and provokes many a happy memory.

#AlzChat It seems rather amazing that my love could draw a map of the farmstead he grew up on. I have no way to know if it is correct, but it doesn’t matter. It is how he remembers it and it elicits such JOY!💜

#AlzChat I am sorry to have to leave early. My love and I are on our neuropsychologist’s Advisory Council. I am going to suggest “Reminiscence” as a topic for our social workers to present for future caregiver gatherings. Great topic! Thank you. 💜

Mom loves to tell stories from her childhood. Many of the stories get altered so she is the star of the story. We just go along … even if it’s unlikely she drove the soldiers to the quarry in the dump truck when she was 6 :) The warmth of the memories is the key! #AlzChat

@Shedfieldlodge @creativitycare Always a need to emphasize importance of activities being made relevant & person-centered to each individual, in all settings. I had to make each museum art-making workshop relevant to my Mom & had the most success whenever I added family photos to whatever the project.#alzchat

Using the other senses helps reminisce as well. The scent of roses or vanilla or clean sheets... The sound of music, kids’ laughter, a comedy sketch... The touch of cashmere or a feather or a cactus… So many ways to trigger memory #AlzChat

@ShariRemus @IRememberBetter @Shutterfly She was a seamstress so pieces of material of different colours and textures, a ball of yarn for her to unravel and wind up again. She grew up on a farm so plastic farm animals. The beautiful Quiet Book she sewed for each of her grandchildren. Photos. I switch it up. #AlzChat https://t.co/yPdMWB5i4H
