Tobey @BRCAinfo @gyncsm T1 Very difficult discussion. You have to “hold it together” & definitely know what you want to say. Important to share with family. It’s their medical history too. #gyncsm
Ann Becker-Schutte @DrBeckerSchutte A1: After you take a moment to breathe and digest the information, I encourage direct communication (phone, video, in person) with your most important support people. #gyncsm

IamCervivor @IamCervivor A1: Ultimately, it is your decision to share how little or as much as you would like. People generally mean well but may not know how to process the unexpected nature of a cancer diagnosis. It is important to know it's your story to share & no one can take that from you. #GYNCSM

Michele E. Collins @Michele_w_1_L t1: All of the important ppl were in the know from Day 1. Word started to travel fast around town as my kids were still in elementary school so I put out a “statement” on FB for World Ovarian Cancer Day & outted myself. Made me feel like I had some control. #gyncsm
Ann Becker-Schutte @DrBeckerSchutte A1: It is likely that you will have some shock. Ideally, you will have at least one key support person who can help you hold space and sort out the “who needs to know what” logistics. If not, there are always professional helpers. #gyncsm
IamCervivor @IamCervivor A2: Everyone processes things differently. It's easy to take things personally, however, their response may have nothing to do w/you. If you find it too difficult w/certain people, limit your interactions/information shared. Talk to a therapist to help with processing too.#GYNCSM
Dee Sparacio @womenofteal @DrBeckerSchutte Yes , kids are very perceptive and they would rather hear from you than hear it or overhear it in a conversation from others. #gyncsm

Dee Sparacio @womenofteal T1 I was teaching in a boys high school when I was diagnosed. I was not able to return to school in September.
