Sarah Temkin @temkins A1: Surgery for gyn cancer usually involve removal of some part of the female reproductive tract. The ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina or vulva. And may involve removal of more than one of these organs as well as lymph nodes and other biopsies.

Jenna Kahn, MD @jennamkahn First-year as an attending has been full of surprises! Mutant Strong @IrinaBrooke1 @BRCAinfo @gyncsm Absolutely! #gyncsm
Alexa Jett 🦋 @ohhiialexa @MIShouldTalk If you don’t mind me asking, has this caused you pain? #GYNCSM
EcanaAdrienne @AdrienneEcana T2: It has to be harder to recover from open surgery...Right? #gyncsm
Dee Sparacio @womenofteal @MIShouldTalk Yes that is one side effect - scar tissue - that we don't usually find out about until after the surgery #gyncsm
Christina Lizaso @btrfly12 T2: There has been lots of studies and discussions on MIS vs. open surgery. There are things to weigh as a field practice - but I think the decision also needs to factor in the patients own goals of treatment. #gyncsm
Suzie Siegel @SuzieSiegel T1. In gyn #leiomyosarcoma, lymph nodes don't need to be taken unless diseased. LMS spreads through the blood. I think, but am not sure, that this is true for other gyn sarcomas. #gyncsm
Sarah Temkin @temkins Minimally invasive surgery is either laparoscopic or robotic surgery. It means small incisions, less blood loss and fewer complications. But this has to be balanced with long term oncologic outcomes. We still want patients to get the best possible cancer surgery. #gyncsm

GYN Cancer | #GYNCSM @gyncsm T3: What are some important things for women to consider before surgery? #gyncsm

Mutant Strong @IrinaBrooke1 @gyncsm I would say what the Dr specializes in and what his skills are. Robotic vs vaginal removal of parts. Also a full hysterectomy vs a bso. That would obviously be for prophylactic surgery. #gyncsm
Shereese Maynard, MS; MBA 😷 She/Her @ShereeseMayMba T1 I was pleased to find out about "keyhole surgery." I think GynCa surgeries are difficult if you're pre-menopausal. Besides discussions w/ your primary & onc, I suggest you also discuss with your therapist. #gyncsm https://t.co/k9Iejwrzjs
