What we did when I worked in a hospital MIS department was to actually ask for workflow diagrams of functionality, not just a feature list (not part of contract, but did give us a bit of leverage later when we said, but, but, but, it doesn't do what you said it does!) #HITsm

The security audit has become such an important part of every vendor review these days. Especially at large organizations. #HITsm

T2: When vendor shopping, also consider how closely combined vendor and purchaser skills inventory match the software and operational characteristics of the new solution from the outset. Ongoing verification that skills and requirement are in balance would also help. #HITsm

This is a good one, but often hard to discover. The key here is to talk to current customers to assess things like this from a real life experience and not what the company tells you. Unless they're willing to put their committment in the contract. #HITsm

The team is a huge component people forget about. How confident is the team on their implementation practices? Are they experts in their field and other fields they weren't supposed to be familiar with? What is their implementation rate? How do they achieve this? #HITsm

T2: Along these lines, I also like to evaluate where the vendor is heading. Some vendors are basically stagnant with their products whereas others are continuously improving. Understanding this is key to vendor selection. #HITsm

Of course, literally so. I'm sure you are familiar with use case diagrams, where you actually do see stick figures of users interacting with the system. Use case diagrams are, quite literally, workflows! I found a WF & a UC definition that were identical, word4word! #HITsm

T3: Use 3rd parties to help get an understanding of what smaller list of vendors to send an RFP to, how these vendors are performing with their clients and against their peers, the standard types of functionality to look for, and what might be unique to their organization. #HITsm
