@Mars_IDS yes, we should talk about our cases so that HIV becomes an everyday affair, just like how TB was before. #healthxph

@DeeKOinakala I've been invited to radio programs DYRF Klinika sa Kahanginan. I wish I spoke Cebuano more fluently because it truly is an opportunity to talk about HIV. Unfortunately even among our broadcasters there is still stigma and stereotyping. #HealthXPh

Rev. Victor 'Yinka Vidal @YinkaVidal
@jimlopez875 @bonedoc #HealthXph The message I'm receiving from people working on the front line of HIV and STD in the U.S is centered on sexual recklessness. while some people don't even care to take medications to prevent transmission.
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@helenvmadamba @DeeKOinakala Listening to AM radio stations that you see as an opportunity to talk about HIV will also be the strategy to make you a fluent Cebuano speaker, Helen. #HealthXPh
Marion Kwek @Mars_IDS
T2: In addition, one way to reduce stigma is to also correct misconceptions in our community whether in the office or hospital. Don't be afraid to call out staff who are discriminatory. I also emphasize as an IPC practitioner that #HIV is standard precaution only #HealthxPh

education #healthxph. the more we understand what we dont know the more we accept and change our attitude.
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@rospzamora we also advocate for all pregnant patients to be routinely offered HIV counseling and testing, esp since there is intervention to prevent mother to child transmission of HIV. It should be as simple as CBC. #HealthXPH https://t.co/cLB2qMB0rR
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@cebumd @endocrine_witch good to hear, Buboy! #HealthXPH
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@helenvmadamba @DeeKOinakala AM radio stations has a wide audience for the masses which make them a perfect target for HIV education. #HealthXPh
rosarosa @rospzamora
The root of stigma is fear. Patients also have self-stigma. The develop negative outlook about the disease. Again, education is the key. As well as compassion. #healthxph
Rev. Victor 'Yinka Vidal @YinkaVidal
#HealthXph If you over-cuddle people reckless behavior doesn't get better, but worse. Some amount of fear is needed to motivate behavior change
rosarosa @rospzamora

@helenvmadamba #healthXPH Another approach to spreading awareness is to mainstream ARV treatment in HIV 101. Perhaps, start the session talking about the treatment. Radical approach to IEC. We are used to numbers. Let's try the inverse.

Here's our T3 #HealthXPh
Rev. Victor 'Yinka Vidal @YinkaVidal
@jimlopez875 @bonedoc #HealthXph There are medications people can use in U.S to reduce the transmission of HIV and for prevention. Some high risk people refuse to take them. When a person is having unprotected sex with 200 people within a year, how can that help to reduce HIV?

Rev. Victor 'Yinka Vidal @YinkaVidal
@DeeKOinakala #HealthXph T2 At times stigma is good to help control human behavior. Stigma for social discrimination is bad. When we lose the stigma does that help to reduce HIV transmission or drive it under ground?
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@tomasito153 We need to share the pros and cons of ARV adherence. We need to protect our ARVs - supply, adherence, resistance, acceptance. #healthxph
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@cebumd @DeeKOinakala Yes. This is something that I have memorized: Ang HIV usa ka kagaw nga gikan sa laing tao nga moatake sa natural nga depensa sa lawas. #healthxph HIV is a virus acquired from another person that attacks the natural defense of the body.
Sean E. @poet512
I assisted a 20 year old hiv positive patient last Friday and told him, I admire him for taking the courage to be treated. I told him that help is accessible. We need to promote a welcoming environment and hopefully we can reduce the stigma. #HealthXPh
