On a personal note: I was diagnosed 10 years ago on May 10 with advanced #lungcancer. At that time, the majority of patients died in their first year after diagnosis. Thanks to research and research advocates, I've had no evidence of cancer on scans for 8+ years. #LCSM

I think this starts at the institutional level- that is, formalized events connecting researchers and patients (talks by patients, social hours, allowing patients to come to instiutional talks, etc). And, importantly, promoting participation by advertising in the clinic!
