Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@AelfridaP Very few exceptions... but there are some who are non-PhD who come to mind. In US, Tim Wolf is a leader in research who has an OTD (clinical doctorate). #otalk
Prof Marion Walker MBE @marionfwalker
@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes #OTalk there are so many opportunities now to become a research OT but it does take a strong desire and knowledge of the system to make a successful career
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@pd2ot @mirnoonanOT And I think clinical aspect helps you keep in touch with what needs to be researched. #otalk
Dr Heather Baglee @HeatherBaglee
@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes #OTalk I think it can mean being engaged in research but the motivations and the starting point may not be a research role.

@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes I see a research career as a viable option, i just have no idea where to go since finishing my MSc #OTalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes For me will be an adjunct skill. Eventually I will want to play a prominent role in our autism research. #otalk

Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
This time with #Otalk, oops!! https://t.co/fJOLjgxWgT
#OTalk @OTalk_
Oh.. after my PhD I applied to do a post doc as a 'pure researcher' rather than a clinical academic and totally enjoyed it but big drop in salary #OTalk https://t.co/Z9zgchFQsX
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@preston_jenny Yes- even with my autism research... real life experiences help me focus on what should be researched. #otalk
Prof Marion Walker MBE @marionfwalker
@pd2ot @mirnoonanOT #OTalk so important to stay rooted in patient care even if no longer a full time clinician. Many ways to do that.

RT @KatrinaBannigan:
Dr Heather Baglee @HeatherBaglee
@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes #OTalk I imagine that there is a percentage of OT's with PhD's who didn't continue with a research career - it could be the culmination of an academic career rather than the starting point?

Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@kateturnerOT @mirnoonanOT @KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes In the US, this is a more and more popular move with some #otgeek’s. #otalk

My post is a permanent contract and after 10 years still loving the mix of clinical and research #Otalk https://t.co/gC7u7RUBd6
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@OTalk_ In US, we face same dilemma with post doc’s. #otalk
David @daviddrraigmore
@KatrinaBannigan @LynneGoodacre @ROTTERsPlym @ROTTERsExeter @rotterstruro @OTPlymouthUni @PIELRes #OTalk I found a post-doc full time research role quite isolating. The disappointments associated with research- funding/ grant applications/ papers rejected would have been easier with peer support.
