Shall we get the ball rolling? Q1 - What are your initial thoughts about & reactions to the Top 10 #OTresearchpriorities? #OTalk
Dr Mary Birken @MaryBirken
#Otalk Hi Otalkers, looking forward to the discussions on research priorities.
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@GeekyOT @OTalk_ long time no see! #otalk
Teoh Jou Yin @teohjouyin
@JoWatson22 Was wondering if there is an opportunity to compare the current ones to previous ones? Am new to UK-based OT so that context would help. #OTalk
#OTalk @OTalk_
OK, so here is question 1. Remember to include the hashtag in all your responses #OTalk
#OTalk @OTalk_
@DrWMB @GeekyOT Welcome Wendy. Good news! #OTalk
Teoh Jou Yin @teohjouyin
@JoWatson22 In fact, I think that could be useful to students and newer practitioners too! #OTalk
Dr Mary Birken @MaryBirken
My initial thoughts on the top 10, is that the research priorities can apply to all areas of practice as they are high level priorities #otalk
Kelly Fielden @KellyFielden
Hi all, looking forward to tonight’s discussion #OTalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@OTalk_ My thought as an international- they are definitely stuff we should be researching all along! #otalk
Jo Watson @JoWatson22
yes indeed, @teojhouyin. you will find the original set on @theRCOTwebsite #OTalk

#OTalk I was surprised the client centred one was so high up the list but the others I thought were spot on re ranking and very valuable and relevant
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@GeekyOT @JoWatson22 I am guessing broadness is by design... so that it can apply to as many practice settings as possible. #otalk

@chloe_kitto @JoWatson22 I think primary care fits well with another research priority: re: mental health and physical health focus . Its a perfect setting to combine both #otalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@DrWMB @anyadei @JoWatson22 I also agree with self management. Personally, maintenance (in relation to autism) is quite important for me at this point for my career. #otalk

@sherlynmelody a key point of the methodology was giving equal voice to people accessing services and to professionals, so the #OTresearchpriorities reflect what matters most to both groups #otalk

@anita_atwal @BAMEOTUK The closest I can think of is Item #2 but by using a term like person-centered practice there is a risk of excluding people from collectivist backgrounds #OTalk I do wish there was something recognising inequalities though, as I think that is fundamental to our profession.
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT

@natlouj @JoWatson22 @theRCOT well- as I mentioned in other chats, OT practitioners who are also service users will be valuable assets! #otalk
Dr Jane Hibberd @JaneHibberd20
RT @MaryBirken: My initial thoughts on the top 10, is that the research priorities can apply to all areas of practice as they are high level priorities #otalk

RT @teohjouyin: @JoWatson22 @theRCOT Can @theRCOT please consider making an amendment to ensure more inclusive language is used? RT @teohjouyin: @anita_atwal @BAMEOTUK BTW I really wonder why there wasn't an effort to use more inclusive language considering that commentary / conversations about how the #occupationaltherapy profession needs to be more inclusive to ppl from collectivist backgrounds has been happening since early 2000s. #OTalk

RT @JoWatson22: That's a key point @anyadei The #OTresearchpriorities themselves won't help move us forward to develop the evidence base. We need researchers to focus their efforts on addressing the many focused research questions that underpin each priority #Otalk
Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
RT @JoWatson22: #OTresearchpriroties will be linked into @theRCOT Research Foundation funding calls. We will also seek to influence the funding calls of other external funders #Otalk
Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
RT @Cilla_Harries: @JoWatson22 The inclusion of impact is so valuable - if research doesn’t make impact - socially or economically then it isn’t really helpful to people, communities etc. Great that was in there! #OTalk
Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
RT @RCOT_Ruth: @GeekyOT @JoWatson22 Behind each priority are qu's that people submitted from their own specific experience and their interest in particular areas of practice in occupational therapy. In due course the data that sits behind each of the priorities will be available on the @LindAlliance website #otalk
Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
RT @JoWatson22: @sherlynmelody a key point of the methodology was giving equal voice to people accessing services and to professionals, so the #OTresearchpriorities reflect what matters most to both groups #otalk
Dr Jenny Preston MBE @preston_jenny
RT @JoWatson22: @GeekOT that means they can be applied to a whole range of practice settings and with a whole range of people who access services, and with particular communities amongst the UK populations #otalk
