Hi = looking forwards to the chat tonight and hoping that lots of #globalPT #geriPT might join in as well #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
Hi I'm tweeting tonight from Edinburgh and will be in the background on the Physiotalk account #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@hipsterlife85 @physiotalk I am very bad at this too 😉 #physiotalk

@LaterLifeTrain @physiotalk You CAN walk and tweet at the same time (but I wouldn't recommend it as I'm sure its a falls risk :)) #physiotalk
Judith Bolton @JudeVBolton
Hi I'm taking part in my first #physiotalk from Rosyth
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@physiotalk #physiotalk Pam Hansford in Cape Town wishing you a happy new year
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk Kate from Winchester....agile chair and had a very very tiny part in the NOS guidelines. Tweeting as myself as can't remember the AGILE Twitter password #babybrain #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@kategahr_kate @hipsterlife85 @physiotalk Just pleased you are still able to join us.... #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@JanetThomas47 @hipsterlife85 @physiotalk Baby is hanging on.... #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@LaterLifeTrain @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Do I get excused?? #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@LaterLifeTrain @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Not to do exercise though....baby may make an early entrance into the world of #physiotalk

to be honest I am not very good at considering bone health in my patients #physiotalk
Grace Coakley @GraceCoakley
@physiotalk Hi all, tweeting from Dublin, Ireland and working in rehab with frail elderly #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Yes - but I should as that's the area I work in! All our patients get a Q# at least #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk It is a standard part of our comprehensive falls assessment. A frax is completed and the relevant action taken for every falls referral unless they are already on bone protection but even then we may ask for a review. Advice leaflets given to every person who falls #physiotalk

@physiowillgreg @LaterLifeTrain @SalfordLeisure We can't offer this as community physios. We can do 12 weeks then refer onto classes but as classes now run in blocks not rolling programme by the time there is space the impetus and motivation often lost #physiotalk
Grace Coakley @GraceCoakley
@physiotalk #physiotalk 😊
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@NicolaLauchlan @physiowillgreg @LaterLifeTrain @SalfordLeisure #physiotalk sorry!
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@LaterLifeTrain But it depends on what services are commissioned for us to use. This is the current pathway/ tender that has been provided by the powers that be #physiotalk
Grace Coakley @GraceCoakley
RT @physiotalk:
Judith Bolton @JudeVBolton
I think its getting patients to realise that seeing a physio for a treatment session is not enough. They have to do there exercises at home. #PhysioTalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk @AideenPhysio Yes...but we don't tend to being perfectly honest. Younger patients that fall don't tend to come through falls referral route so dependent on MSK for this (as if having fracture rehab will tend to be MSK) #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
RT @physiotalk:
Jenny birch @Physio_Jen
@physiotalk This defo isn’t just an issue for elderly pts! I’ve seen pts under 20y/o with really poor bone health which needed addressing before any return to sport was planned #physiotalk
Judith Bolton @JudeVBolton
We need to look at 'upstream' and maybe with all the new year fitness out there it is something we can tap into #PhysioTalk
Amy Tildesley @amytids
Am here and trying to catch up #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@LaterLifeTrain Sadly hands are tied! When I go back to work I will pick up the mantle but we are so tied into current pathways we aren't able to look elsewhere...no funding to begin with. And not necessarily priority following the findings of the hip.sprint audit for Southampton #physiotalk

Maybe telling someone just diagnosed with #osteoporosis that they can do moderate impact activities might help them deal with the diagnosis. It can be the fear which is the biggest factor. #PhysioTalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@BexTownley There is always one 🙄🙄🤣🤣 #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk I think there is a lot of avoidance by professionals due to fear 🙈🙈🙈 #physiotalk

RT @physiotalk:
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@physiotalk I try and adapt all exercises to my particular patient. What I gave would be based on them and their ability and not a diagnosis of OP #physiotalk
IPTOP @IPTOPphysio
Would day to day activity provide enough progressive overload to strengthen / build bone? #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
RT @physiotalk:
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk Yes and will be encouraging others in my team to do so as well. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@NicolaLauchlan @physiotalk Agree! Its great to have this as a resource for this (and many other) reasons #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@JoFallsPhysio @physiotalk One of the patients I handed over prior to mat leave has taken herself to bed due to a vertebral fracture. Was prev ind mobile with no aid (despite recommendation to use) now 2 plus WZF to step to commode. Family refusing mob practise as say she isn't ready #physiotalk
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@physiotalk @AideenPhysio #physiotalk (1) In a psychoeducational context we focus all aspects of health & well being with people of all ages from infancy. Spinal health & muscle function need attention in all our daily activities, starting with a b c: alignment balance & control & LATER strengthing
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@kategahr_kate @JoFallsPhysio @physiotalk A Prime example of family trying to do their best when in fact they are causing harm. There needs to be more educational info on social media etc where family’s may read it #PhysioTalk
IPTOP @IPTOPphysio
@BexTownley Absolutely not - it was a response to tweet suggesting using day to day activities to build bone. I'm certainly not shopping that much! #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@amytids @JoFallsPhysio @physiotalk Agree and if they are refusing visits etc we can't even have that discussion with them to explain the benefits. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@LaterLifeTrain Yes!! - I've just circulated it locally for our journal club :) #physiotalk
Judith Bolton @JudeVBolton
Having the quick guide will help with education for the patient. (and families that think they are not ready!) #PhysioTalk
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@kategahr_kate @JoFallsPhysio @physiotalk It’s hard enough to convince them on the ward sometimes and they are a captive audience then #PhysioTalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
RT @physiotalk:
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk Some will but the majority won't for a variety of reasons, not just the frail older ones #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@BexTownley @LaterLifeTrain We try! Certainly helps to get a starting dose that's challenging enough. #physiotalk
Grace Coakley @GraceCoakley
@JanetThomas47 @LaterLifeTrain Very interesting.. will add this for our next journal club too! #physiotalk
Ann Marie Conlon @am_conlon
@physiotalk As a physio working in an acute care of the elderly ward I would not have thought about bone health with my patients. However since I have started working as the falls co-ordinator I do consider bone health within the MDT falls assessment process.#physiotalk
Amy Tildesley @amytids
I wish the CSP advert “its not too late” was shown on the television. Such an important message which likely hasn’t reached enough of its target audience #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I'm thinking to myself - do I reach that level (not that I think I'm osteoporotic, I'm trying to avoid it!) Hands up who does! #physiotalk
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@physiotalk @AideenPhysio #physiotalk (2) Practice does NOT 'make perfect' we simply get good at what we practice. To become motivated we need to start with what we enjoy & what we can do. Seated exercise to music using imager can be used to align system build sitting balance, develop control then walking
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@BexTownley @LaterLifeTrain Theraband and ankle weights would be a start....bought the last lot myself as not enough for otago training #physiotalk
Judith Bolton @JudeVBolton
I certainly don't make the target #PhysioTalk
Prof Robin Daly @daly_prof
I thought the LIFTMOR study only included those with osteopenia and some with #osteoporosis. Many high risk women (around 30% from memory) were excluded due to contraindications to high intensity exercise. Let’s be careful not to generalize to other groups.#physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Does horse riding count for highly challenging balance exercise on something that is constantly trying to put you on the floor 🤣🤣🤣 #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@l_giangregorio @BexTownley @LaterLifeTrain Don't have any machines! Should we get a kettlebell or two I wonder though?? #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@SaSSyWagner @amytids And some say there are other things they would rather be doing with their time...ie spending it with family and friends while they are still able to. Which I completely understand #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
RT @physiotalk:
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@AideenPhysio @SaSSyWagner @thecsp That was my initial point. I’ve seen it shared on social media but not where people like my nana would see it #PhysioTalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk I would never stay on without a saddle. She would have me on the deck in seconds #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@amytids @AideenPhysio @SaSSyWagner @thecsp Having worked for the CSP and been involved in numerous campaigns for OPD and other things sadly it's not that easy to get stuff on TV. 3 years ago we got chair of council on BBC brekkie promoting the get up and go booklet etc but that was hard enough. #physiotalk
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@spiteri_anna @kategahr_kate @SaSSyWagner My dissertation looked at activity levels in primary school children. That was 12 years ago and was still scarily low. My guess would never it’s lower still now #PhysioTalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@l_giangregorio @LaterLifeTrain I think they are quite 'young' as well? But I've only had a brief look ahead of choosing it for our journal club so far! #physiotalk
Anita. Brankin. Pearce @anitapearce
RT @OsteoporosisHCP:
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@SaSSyWagner @amytids #physiotalk Yes, health needs to be reframed in connection with well-being, not sickness. We need to encourage activities of choice, anything that will help that person relax, feel more comfortable, build confidence by energising through exercise, doing more & feeling better.
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@SaSSyWagner @physiotalk And if we create too much dependence then they won't go and do it on their own/ with family as they 'need' a physio. Balance must be found! #physiotalk
kate bennett @kategahr_kate
@physiotalk @marymg40 @LaterLifeTrain The number of medical questions I see asked on Facebook (usually by people who have fallen off a horse tbh) and some of the absolutely idiotic replies they get (from other people who have fallen off horses....) #physiotalk
Amy Tildesley @amytids
@kategahr_kate @AideenPhysio @SaSSyWagner @thecsp Maybe we should all inundate Philip Schofield with tweets about it and see if he will mention it! #physiotalk #gottalovephil
