@physiotalk I would say losing the safety blanket of a clinical educator checking all your work was quite a challenge as it’s hard to find that self belief in your own skills and clinical reasoning early on #physiotalk

Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@CharlotteHayers @physiotalk A lot of people fed back that they found the disruption to the final few months of study quite a challenge so certainly not on your own - but as the hard work of new grads over the last few months shows, we’ve certainly stepped up to the challenge #physiotalk
Ryan Duncan PT @RyanDuncanPT
Enjoying #physiotalk chat. Early career researcher here in the US.
Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@physiotalk I feel it impacted in regards to our expectations as a new physio and the level of support needed. #physiotalk

Great Point by our lovely Chloe on the challenges of Transitioning into New Jobs in tonights #Physiotalk for New Grads 👍
Judith Deutsch @JudithDeutsch
@physiotalk Writing notes was time consuming and very challenging #physiotalk
Judith Deutsch @JudithDeutsch
@physiotalk If your job downs j nj it have a mentoring process find a mentor #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@zlbrewster @physiotalk Lovely words Zoe! Definitely been a huge help having senior staff recognise some of the unique challenges of starting a new job during the pandemic and offer some great support #physiotalk
Judith Deutsch @JudithDeutsch
@Caryswilliams__ @physiotalk Very normal. #physiotalk “fake it till you make it”
PM First Steps @PMFirstSteps
Rid this Myth - Your seniors are there for support, not to test or mark you. You only learn to trust yourself and your own knowledge by answering questions, getting 2nd opinions & seeking reassurance when you need it #Physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@physio_back @Caryswilliams__ @physiotalk 100% felt this, and had a lot of feedback from @CSPWales new grad members that they felt supervisors were already overworked and worried about bothering them. The truth is, most supervisors would always want you to feel like you can ask for help whenever you need it #physiotalk
Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@physiotalk The team were great when I started which is so important as we all know what it’s like to be new. I began working with the MDT, asked many questions, feedback, the preceptorship programme really helped and I made sure to take an hour each week to reflect and develop #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@laurenmce2_ @physiotalk Key thing is to recognise that no one expects you to be perfect as a brand new physio, you only learn by getting stuck in and that confidence quickly grows - it’s an exciting transition that’s for sure #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@DMGPhysio @physiotalk Not heard of this - sounds like a great scheme though! #physiotalk
Darragh Mc Gee @DMGPhysio
@chloedooley99 @physiotalk Looks to be a great idea #physiotalk https://t.co/2OC1VqhVzo
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@DMGPhysio @physiotalk It is a good programme - its changed and developed over the years but is a great structure for development in first year of practice #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@physiotalk @JudithDeutsch My team has been great at maintaining in service training virtually, still giving us a chance to set rotation goals and providing us with dedicated supervisors to guide us through the first few months - help to maintain a bit of normality #physiotalk
PM First Steps @PMFirstSteps
@physiotalk @CharlotteHayers Lots of NHS Trusts typically have Preceptionship programmes for NQs - We know that some have had to change their structure due to COVID - always worth enquiring with your trusts' Development/Personale teams. Lots are mixed between AHP/Nursing professions #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@physio_back @laurenmce2_ @physiotalk 💙 this #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@chloedooley99 @physio_back @laurenmce2_ @physiotalk We ALL need support throughout our careers - and the learning never stops either! #physiotalk
PM First Steps @PMFirstSteps
See - it is not just us saying it. We all have doubts & we all keep learning - this is normal! #Physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@zlbrewster @physiotalk This was another challenge that came up a lot in my @CSPWales survey! I know myself from living on my own, 4 hours from family has made things far from easy - but sounds like you guys are doing a great job of looking out for new staff 👍 #physiotalk
Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@PMFirstSteps @physiotalk It was good as they made it AHP specific as well covering lots of topics including delegation as a band 5, which can be a daunting process when you’re new. But it highlighted how we can enhance care through our support workers and colleagues in all bands #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@physiotalk Some common themes from the feedback I got were: - maintaining training/learning opportunities - Having a ‘safe space’ to share concerns + worries - A chance to be made to feel part of a team #physiotalk
PM First Steps @PMFirstSteps
@chloedooley99 @zlbrewster @physiotalk @CSPWales A great point - Just because you have a sense of routine eg. going to work - doesn't mean this time is easy for anyone. Prioritise yourself - A point also discussed in our video chats with @AHPLeader over on her youtube channel too #Physiotalk
Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@Caryswilliams__ @physiotalk 100% we started a group with new OT’s as well and joined once a month to discuss various topics which would help us through rotations, I found this really helped boost morale and confidence 😌 #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk The sudden and continuing changes in service delivery pulling focus away at times from the usual staff support. #physiotalk
PM First Steps @PMFirstSteps
For those wanting to know how seniors are trying to support those newly qualified/rotated - take a look at the 2nd half of tonight's #Physiotalk questions
Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@physiotalk Definitely, and to be reminded by seniors that you are not being assessed anymore and you can relax and enjoy your time absorbing and learning information 😌 #physiotalk

Charlotte Hayers @CharlotteHayers
@physiotalk I feel it is important indeed to be able to reduce the pressure from yourself and to know this is the start of an amazing career. You develop over time and it’s great to know we will have support throughout to face challenges and develop our careers 😌 #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@ClemNihill @physiotalk I can imagine when the whole team is feeling burnt out it can be difficult to motivate each other, new staff included #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk It's been difficult as no cakes allowed to share! I've tried though what I can - some homemade jam went down well (and a bit of fizz at Christmas...) #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Virtual Christmas party was a nice way to get to know my team! Little things go a long way at the moment to making work that bit brighter #physiotalk
Chloe Dooley @chloedooley99
@physioNikitaM @physiotalk @JanetThomas47 This sounds fab! Some lucky new grads in your team #physiotalk
