@physiotalk I'm on the @physiotalk account tonight from Edinburgh. No one Fife word my patients use to describe feeling dizzy but they are often giddy! #physiotalk

@physiotalk Calling in from Somerset, where people feel 'Wurzel'* #physiotalk *I may have made that up....
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Hello Hayley here, tweeting from Birmingham but working in derby. Locals often say they feel like they’re ‘drunk’ but they haven’t had a drink! #physiotalk

#physiotalk hello I am a physio from Manchester. Here I have heard most of my patients stating feeling woozy or dizzy sometimes lightheaded
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Or a ‘hungover’ without the fun part #physiotalk

@physiotalk Assess potentially yes, I’m not sure about how to treat...I think that came once I was qualified...but I’ve been qualified 13 years so I’m sure curriculum has moved on...#physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I had a question on vertigo in my Part 2 finals - but I don't recall covering much on dizziness at all (a LONG time ago) #physiotalk
Kate Mccoy @physiocyclekate
@physiotalk Not at all - I had to learn it as I went along. #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
.... Well, not that I remember anyway.... #physiotalk https://t.co/92p8jZ8ylj

@physiotalk And this was a response to my tweet on knowledge of vestibular systems etc in #physio20 #physiotalk https://t.co/VvaIUZqRMq

@physiotalk Kate from south Wales, arriving a bit late #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
I did a session on vestibular issues for @QMUPhysio final year students last year and it was surprising how many students had already seen people with vestibular problems #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk I re-call possibly being taught how to assess it as in agg’s/ease’s/red flags... and maybe within stroke/neuro placement re: posterior strokes #physiotalk
Emily Jay @emilyja97488515
@physiotalk I don't remember any vestibular teaching at uni! @acpivr are working on a ACPIVR framework for core competencies which will be really useful. #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
@bendotellis @physiotalk At least the Dix-Hallpike & Epley. If you can do the Dix-Hallpike & Epley, you literally become the most popular clinician in the hospital. #physiotalk

@physiotalk #physiotalk That'd be a big old... https://t.co/UFu2LiKCaz
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Competent yes, specialist, no But so many older people have vestibular issues contributing to falls its important that I am able to assess and treat #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Competent within my skill set but I have only ever had informal vestibular training. Definitely an area that I would like to undertake further specialist training in... #neurophysio #everydayaschoolday #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
@physiotalk (but well on my way to reaching that point....) #physiotalk
Kate Mccoy @physiocyclekate
@physiotalk Out of practice #physiotalk

@physiotalk When I was a Band 5 Physio and early Band 6 Physio from Senior Physio’s from their experience and also from them attending formal training and then doing local IST and sharing knowledge #physiotalk
Kate Mccoy @physiocyclekate
@physiotalk Falls assessments - really good way to look at global clinical reasoning and linking to balance systems #physiotalk

@physiotalk I'm lucky in that most people I see are assessed as part of our team approach to CGA . However we do get a number of physio only outpatients - but these usually come from consultant clinic so I know they have had a medical workup first #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Ideally all physio’s at first point of contact whether acute or community need a level of competence in differential diagnosis so that the issue can be treated quickly; onward referrals can be timely and then specialist services can be for complex cases...#physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@bendotellis @_JoeMiddleton @physiotalk Could you not say that for any technique? Teaching final years vest rehab I was surprised how many had already seen and treated dizzy patients and at least were aware of the tests #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Are specialist vestibular services commissioned in all areas?Often it seems a very bespoke one physio specialism...#physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
RT @FionaConroyPT:
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
@clinicalphysio have you done any sessions on dizziness and/or vestibular pathology, assessment and treatment? #physiotalk
Kate Mccoy @physiocyclekate
@physiotalk Yes and No - everyone should be able to lying / standing BP as a screen - sorts out 30% of those I see in an ESDT . We are a specilast team but not dizziness or vestibular. Really important we can sort out basic causes and treat but also opportunity to refer on. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@DavidHerdmanPT @bendotellis @_JoeMiddleton @physiotalk Ha! I practiced on my daughter once following a course but made her feel really dizzy #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk Derby certainly within the Acute Trust has a Specialist Vestibular Physiotherapist within the Outpatient Dept. #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
RT @physiotalk: Q:
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk A national standardised qualification? This would be very funding dependent... #physiotalk
Kate Mccoy @physiocyclekate
@physiotalk General screening ,specific questions, n understanding vestibular conditions, basic exercises - no specific assessments, epley etc.......yes. #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
I have had a lot of success with cawthrone cooksey exercises and those are my go to but are they #EBP? Or best practice? They seem to be a good reference point to signpost non-specialist colleagues to #physiotalk
Alice-physio @Alicephysio3
@physiotalk That's a no from me too. Definitely gained through practice in neuro/stroke #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
RT @physiotalk:
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@DavidHerdmanPT @physiotalk I love a good outcome https://t.co/qd3fojuNne there a standardised one used within vestibular or specialist services? objective or QOL? #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Not for patients but I would certainly recommend joining @acpivr https://t.co/oxe8QBRYSC #physiotalk
Alice-physio @Alicephysio3
@physiotalk I think a lot of people encounter dizziness in a lot of specialities so useful for everyone to have baseline knowledge and access to specialist therapists. #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@DavidHerdmanPT Thanks for the signpost.Always happy to be challenged and to be moving forwards with rehab. #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@DavidHerdmanPT I always combine them with patient set goals.Table tennis has been a recent rehab progression with a patient with vestibular issues #neurophysio #physiotalk
