@physiotalk Hi! I’m tweeting from Bedford, a MSc physio studying at Kings College London. This should be a good one! #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@spiteri_anna @physiotalk No problem. I've enjoyed putting this chat together as I feel development is an important topic for everyone. Hopefully people will tweet along and find it engaging #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk #physiotalk as well as in your workplace should include from your workplace. for example #versusarthritis msk champions or msc modules are avenues that exist to #AHPs from the workplace.
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@physiotalk I was the first AHP to complete my Trust’s preceptor programme, which was mainly nursing based, however still very useful. I’ve since then gone on an Improvement Champion programme. Interested to hear if anyone has had similar opportunities? #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk #physiotalk it's about seeking opportunity and then articulating how that development will help the service as well as yourself. many of my experiences have come through my @thecsp roles which my workplace supported as it was positive for both of us.
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@HulsePhilip @physiotalk @thecsp Do you think your work with @thecsp helped you develop from a B5 physiotherapist into more senior roles? If so, how? #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@Lindsay_OConnor @physiotalk #physiotalk what issues in your service could be resolved by investment in staff development? How can you explain to your Trust what the return would be in terms of staff patients & finance through new ways of working? Development happens for a reason what unmet need would it fix
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@Charna_1 @spiteri_anna @physiotalk @BEHMHTNHS That sounds very exciting! What development opportunities do you have currently for physiotherapists? #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
@physiotalk @clairegeorge03 I have always benefited from IST whilst on placements, particularly for developing knowledge of more complex patients #physiotalk
Ellen Louise Hellard @physioellen
#physiotalk I work for social enterprise who just been through consultation process reduced 8 band 7 post to 5. No development opportunity
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk @clairegeorge03 #physiotalk I would like to see more development of staff willing to enter #FCP roles from my workplace. I perceive there is a lag between the immediate need in primary care and the shift in pace required to meet the demand from the potential #Physiotherapy workforce.

@physiotalk @sarahdebiase @clairegeorge03 There's lots of opportunity for leadership roles using transferable skills & physio knowledge in roles like my current one managing a transformation programme for integrated care & frailty or like @sarahvdewhurst working on an oncology programme #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@MvWisson @physiotalk I agree. We have a great IST programme where I work. Very lucky to have experienced clinicians who are happy to donate their time to develop the next generation #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
@clairegeorge03 @physiotalk There is always so much information sharing amongst colleagues and theory that you can automatically put into practice #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@MvWisson @physiotalk I agree. Quite often I am told that I can’t lead because I’m a B5. Surely leadership qualities are transferable regardless of banding #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@HulsePhilip @physiotalk Maybe you should consider developmental roles and pathways to fill this emerging gap #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
@clairegeorge03 @physiotalk I think they are so valuable as a band 5, regularly require them to run classes etc. Also with these skills comes confidence! #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk In my career I have done 3, 4 and 6 month rotations as I gradually specialised into #msk it depends on where you are in your career path and what service you work in. It's always an option to build your own rotation through changing employers, sectors and specialisms. #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@GeraintRJAH @physiotalk How are you finding the balance between working in advanced practice alongside studying? #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
@Lindsay_OConnor @clairegeorge03 @physiotalk Really interesting read. I agree banding shouldn’t effect this but for this to be the case access to learn these skills and put them in place need to be equal for all practitioners #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
RT @GeraintRJAH:
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@physiotalk For me personally... no, perhaps it is due to the length of the rotation (6 months). I’m about to ‘rotate’ into the same rotation for the 3rd time. I feel that I am clinically being left behind compared to my peers #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@sarahdebiase @physiotalk I would agree with this statement if you subbed but for and #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@physiotalk I currently do 6 monthly rotations. Whilst they are beneficial for consolidating knowledge. I feel my peers who do 4 monthly rotations have a better generalist knowledge, which is fundamental for a B5 #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk #physiotherapy will develop where ever physiotherapists take it - our profession's scope is defined by our collective knowledge & skills. There is no ceiling - only needs of our patients & services. We have our founding @thecsp members to thank for our future proofing #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
A great #physiotalk tonight, lots of engagement and ‘take aways’ from the discussion. I even managed to get 4 questions right on university challenge as we tweeted!😮
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@EmOnTheBrain @Lindsay_OConnor @physiotalk @OUH_OCE @OCEConsultant Love this! #physiotalk
