Alessia Nicotera @AlessiaNicoter2 Hello! Italian SLTs are joining you! #ReSNetSLT
Caroline Bowen, Speech-Language Pathologist π¦πΊπ» @speechwoman @HazelRoddam1 Hello from Auckland NZ, #ResNetSLT! I have a bus to catch shortly, then a ferry across the inner Auckland Harbour to the Peninsula of Devonport. It's not too hot, but sticky with rain is store. Have a fabulous chat on #clinicalresearch ππ Looking forward to perusing it later.
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @ReSNetSLT A1 Just anecdotal, but in talking to SLTs via my #SLPhD and @PDCOMM_trial, I've been a bit surprised by how few examples there are of research having any embedded role. Loads of improvement work going on, but almost seems a parallel universe. #ReSNetSLT
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @EmmaMcGeehan As clinical research is still fairly new to clinical practice in Germany,... no. #ReSNetSLT
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @RCSLTResearch @ReSNetSLT @PDCOMM_trial I mean posts in the NHS (e.g. a researcher-in-residence model or a clinical academic) where staff see by example that research is part of the NHS #ReSNetSLT I don't think you have to be practising to do clinically relevant research - but then I would say that!!
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @ReSNetSLT #ReSNetSLT Q2 ... If ... more effective, efficient outcome. Could also imagine that it would boost team collaboration and inter professional learning at work
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @HazelRoddam1 @EmmaMcGeehan #ReSNetSLT ... and I am very keen on sharing international experience and would like to gain insight into diverse SLT framework in diverse health care systems next to a great network
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @KathBroomfield "giving patients the opportunity to be involved in research" - I'm not sure I really appreciated enough in the past how important this is. I find now when I need the NHS I keep hoping to be asked! #ReSNetSLT
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @bangerasai #ReSNetSLT Q2 One of the biggest challenges in Germany: avoiding two-classes thinking (academic versus non-academic SLTs). We first need to gain trust among many practitioners, that research does enhance their clinical work by showing more respect
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @sarahkedney Multi-centre trials have a role to play in normalisation - @PDCOMM_trial we have annual SLT day, a JISC list for SLT knowledge exchange, can support research projects, and really try to understand and address different uncertainties / concerns about research process #ReSNetSLT
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @KathBroomfield #ResNetSLT Q3 We do notice a similar clash between non-academic SLTs and academic SLTs. Especially if they both work as clinical practitioners. Actually, there are no academic clinicians, yet
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @rhi_slt173 I was pleased to see the 'income generating' bit in the paper as I don't think it's widely known? However, I also don't think there's a clear enough link between the people doing the research work and the money! #ReSNetSLT
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll That's why I think there's a huge role for implementation science (in its broadest sense) in speech and language therapy @Nat_Douglas @dr_epower #ReSNetSLT https://t.co/3rYvugfb5U
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @ReSNetSLT #ResNetSLT Q4 My answer would be to focus and analyze ways of communication in best-practice examples and in-between clinical researcher-practitioner intersections
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @Katie_Chadd @lucyjtalbot @EmmaMcGeehan @SLTLaurenL @KathBroomfield Oh great minds think alike on the #impsci front Katie, I'm just struggling to keep up with the chat:) #ReSNetSLT
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @MCAsupporttool @avrilnicoll #ReSNetSLT Q4 It would be interesting to compare institutions having implemented AHP versus those that have not - and focus a possible financial benefit
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @SLTLaurenL Having worked in rural areas, I've been determined to include services that wouldn't usually have the opportunity. BUT makes the research more expensive and takes more time, so I can understand why convenience plays a big part. Need better use of technology/webinars. #ReSNetSLT
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll RT @sarahhayward25:
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @W_Scharff @ReSNetSLT I'm really interested in this - we're drawing on implementation science to help engage SLTs in a trial of routine interventions and likening it to being knowledge brokers #ReSNetSLT
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll RT @RCSLTResearch:
W Scharff Rethfeldt π @W_Scharff @MCAsupporttool @cplol_eu #ResNetSLT Greetings to everyone from @HSBremen @HSB_logo_ATW Germany. We will definitely be celebrating on Tuesday EU SLT Day with a clinical practitioner event on #AAC ;-)
Avril Nicoll @avrilnicoll @Katie_Chadd @sarahhayward25 @lucyjtalbot @EmmaMcGeehan @SLTLaurenL @KathBroomfield I think part of the problem is lack of research looking at INTEGRATED work of practitioners. For practical reasons effectiveness / a component of intervention gets focused on, which doesn't account for any practice change needing multiple adjustments #ReSNetSLT |
