@WeNurses Hi and bye! So sorry to miss this #WeNurses chat, but still busy preparing a speech. Have fun and rock the profession!

@ProfJuneG @ShazzaHudson @WeNurses Which is highly interesting as professional nursing in Western countries is rooted in nursing by men in the monasteries, by the Knights of St John, communities like Brothers of St John of God. In Islam however the original role model is indeed a woman. #histnursing #WeNurses

This is a fundamental issue- the profession itself is delegating ‘female’ characteristics of role to less deeply educated staff...as it aspires to technical tasks...but this is what makes nursing unique- the blend of both- not caring (women) and science (men) #wenurses

Absolutely agree with this having down a module in professionalism recently it changed my perspective and had empowered me to speak differently about role #wenurses

@maxwele2 @WeNurses And that is why I feel it is important it is discussed as such. It is so disheartening to see caring ‘dumbed down’ back to the traditional view of basic needs and advancement knowledge seen as aspiring to be a different profession. It should be empowering us! #WeNurses

@WeNurses Challenging your colleagues who downgrade their own value; engage in promoting skills through values & how emotions can affect how they are performed; encourage RNs to explore & reflect on prof identity; make elements of role ‘visible’ in education; lead w authenticity #WeNurses

@ProfJuneG Yes! Nursing is complex, nuanced and requires multi-modal thinking...to ensure feminine values can be applied in a paternalistic environment...we need to model this is what makes Nurses pivotal to medicine and expanding role brings autonomy which ups importance further #WeNurses
