Heen @Heenthedog
A0 hi all love eating rarely love cooking following fodmap diet to cope with very annoying digestion #autchat
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod I’m Derek. I’m 33. I work in restaurants because its the only job I can apply to with a paper resume. I love to cook but definitely have issues organizing things around cooking. #autchat
AutisticZebra (Melissa) @AutisticZebra
#autchat I’m autistic mother to two autistic fussy eaters, who are opposites in terms of what they eat. So cooking and meal prep always on my mind. https://t.co/IO1fvXYHiS
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A0 I’m Derek. I’m 33. I work in restaurants because its the only job I can apply to with a paper resume. I love to cook but definitely have issues organizing things around cooking. #autchat
an autumn cloud @ro_xwan
#autchat a0: I'm Ro, I would say I enjoy cooking but go through long periods of time where I don't manage it well. Currently cooking is a daily part of my job
AutisticZebra (Melissa) @AutisticZebra
#autchat I cook a lot of food from scratch but with a few “cheat” ingredients, and some ready meals and takeouts when I can. https://t.co/v6VcRibEWH
an autumn cloud @ro_xwan
#autchat a1: it really fluctuates, but I tend to gravitate towards cooking meals that have less steps and reuse ingredients a lot
#AutChat mod @autchatmod
Q2 What parts are cooking/meal prep do you like? What parts do you dislike? #autchat
Heen @Heenthedog
A1 try to make big batch of things like chilli that i freeze in portions also homemade burgers. I can live off cereal far too easily #autchat
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A1 I love the act of cooking, the way everything comes together to be an edible whole. I like being in control of my food. I do NOT like the prep or cleaning as they are hard to organize, time, and remember. #autchat
AutisticZebra (Melissa) @AutisticZebra
#autchat I like when I’m in right mood and can “zone out” on repetitive tasks, it’s a bit like meditation. Baking especially. I hate the “what will we eat tonight” grind. Especially keeping up with who eats what now. https://t.co/kcV61SqGGS
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A2 I love the act of cooking, the way everything comes together to be an edible whole. I like being in control of my food. I do NOT like the prep or cleaning as they are hard to organize, time, and remember. #autchat
an autumn cloud @ro_xwan
#autchat a2: with the right mindset and limited stress cooking is a really nice way to spend my time I really love chopping things up I dislike and avoid meat
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A1 At home I mostly make soups, sauces, and stews. I find single pot dishes easier because there are less steps and timing to remember. I can eat the same food every meal for weeks without a problem and in fact find it very comforting since I know it will be the same #autchat
Isobel Moody @MsIsobel
Mostly what my dad gave me instructions for. A couple of things I’ve gotten from a cookbook. https://t.co/u5f1VlhNnO
Heen @Heenthedog
A2 I enjoy tasting as I go. Sometimes I end up eating it as I Cook it. No need for plates and cutlery. Cook and eat in one pan #autchat
Heen @Heenthedog
A2 Slow cooker is great just chuck stuff in and then at dinner time its ready #autchat
Heen @Heenthedog
I have a real problem organising to eat at sensible times. I eat far too late at night #autchat
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A0: Hi, I'm Laura! I'm a health coach and naturopathic med student so nutrition is a big part of my life. I help others, but in many arenas still struggle myself. Dx last yr. #autchat https://t.co/xqZ6UVM9jO
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A1: It varies. I eat a few of the same meals on rotation for a few months at a time. I try to shop once a week and roast/chop vegetables in advance to save spoons at mealtime. I also keep some soups etc in the freezer for when I need something very easy. #autchat https://t.co/o5IMFiCDgb
Darla @basicnbizarre
@DoctorFettle 100% the same. I don’t feel HUNGRY ever. I work it out from other stimuli. But it means if I get distracted or executive dysfunction kicks in I’ll just not eat. Once went 36 hours without food bc I kept forgetting I needed to eat. #autchat
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A2: I actually love cooking, I just dislike the fact that I need to cook and eat every day. #autchat https://t.co/akst3DaodR
#AutChat mod @autchatmod
Q3 If parts of cooking/meal prep are difficult for you, what makes them difficult? #autchat
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A3: Balancing wanting to eat the same things repeatedly (and getting balanced nutrition) with managing GI issues (food sensitivities, SIBO) and then not being bored with my limited options to the point of losing my appetite altogether. #autchat https://t.co/OFiessxD6c
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A0 *waves* I'm late because I am currently baking cookies. Heh. #autchat https://t.co/WS5zT3jKfg
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A3 P2: I also find I have to reread recipes a zillion times, so I write the ones I post on my website as simply as possible without extra words and steps. #autchat
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A1 I grocery shop and will help meal plan. Usually all done with my husband. #autchat. https://t.co/ujFkv8DJYR
Nicole Radziwiłł @nicoleradziwill
@autchatmod A3 by the time I get done cooking, I'm so sensory-exposed to the ingredients that everything tastes like volcanic ash :( #autchat
an autumn cloud @ro_xwan
#autchat a3: touching raw meat is probably the worst I don't have many food aversions so cooking for myself is generally easy, just not a priority; but rn I'm cooking for young kids who have food opinions and it's difficult deciding what I can cook for them
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A1 I also do almost all the baking and do cook about 1/4 of the meals at the moment. Ideally I would cook more but my husband gets home before I do and runs out of spoons slower. #autchat
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod A1 good days I can manage microwave. Bad maybe kettle. But mainly just eat from pack. #autchat
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A3 Planning, shopping, getting myself into the preparation, and cleaning up. Dealing w cleanup is bad for me, a 30 minute meal can take 3 days to clean. The cooking itself I am fine at but everything else can be so difficult sometimes I put it off for days. #autchat
#AutChat mod @autchatmod
Q4 What have you found that makes cooking/meal prep easier or more fun? Techniques, gadgets, specific meals, etc. #autchat
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod A0 #autchat food big big prob. Need reminder to eat. Cooking just not. Hours to make a drink often. Executive functioning. Spouse does all food. Friends remind. Only prepared food. Usually cold. Otherwise just no eating at all.
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod A1 #autchat greasy fingers bad bad bad. Use cutlery nearly always. Same fork. Spouse leaves for me. Sticky just no. Always need fork.
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod #autchat A2 any thing that results in me getting fed amazing. I can stand jumping up and down flapping hands with delight just at a bit of dry toast popping up from toaster. That is huge success for me if alone.
Dr. Laura Z. Weldon @neuronaturopath
A4: A rice cooker, Imperfect Produce (west coast delivery service), high power blender (helps improve textures for sensitivities), and playing good music while cooking. #autchat https://t.co/JAN4KsqTJh
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod #autchat A2 hate the open fridge and can’t work out how to get food from there to me. Panic, tears, hours of trying. Need help or just don’t eat. Can take multiple attempts even for pot noodle. Spouse often has to do all.
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A3 Also I have a LOT of trouble with recipes. I have trouble remembering the instructions and proportions unless its right in front of my eyes. Turn around for a minute and my mind goes blank. Makes complex stuff hard if I haven’t made if before a few times. #autchat
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod A3 #autchat almost all. Like my head just won’t connect. Shopping hard. Knowing what when between cyclic same food hard. Knowing hungry only by light headedness. Reminders needed. Every step a new action so exhausting.
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A2 I mostly cook/bake as an anxiety management tool, to be honest. #autchat
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A2 I love mixing and creating. Making new things and learning from the mistakes. I don't like really sticky hands and some of the cleanup. #autchat https://t.co/7qcDs8cI34
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A4 Making a dish a LOT, especially with someone else helping the first few times. The stuff I regularly cook now is all stuff my parents taught me as a teenager or I have made at work. #autchat
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A3 it's the energy expense, mostly. If I'm tired, it doesn't work. #autchat https://t.co/qeNmV478Qz
an autumn cloud @ro_xwan
#autchat a4: making as little mess as possible, listening to music or podcasts or having an episode of pokemon on in the background, like others, mass amounts of hand washing, cleaning as I go so mess doesn't wrack up, only making food that I don't mind the smell of
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A4 Writing down the recipes into forms I can better process and working them out in my head ahead of time. Like a script. #autchat
Sarah Owl @OwlStory
A4 Prepeeled, precut veggies are a massive help for us. They're more expensive but right now we can absorb that cost. #autchat https://t.co/VVb8QQQISq
Darla @basicnbizarre
@autchatmod A4 Gadget wise I use a slow cooker a lot and tend to toss all my veggies in a food processor. Rice cooker has been a godsend; I used to burn rice ALL THE TIME. Digital thermometer helps ensure my meat is always perfect. #autchat
Max @ViolaMaths
@autchatmod A3 #autchat seems to be to do with sequencing. Still trying to figure it out. https://t.co/j8GBltb5Ad
Max @ViolaMaths
@atypicalastrum @autchatmod Yes. I discovered this is something to do with interoception. Its inability to sense signals from within the body. The minute I read about interoceptive function I knew mine was broken #autchat
#AutChat mod @autchatmod

@atypicalastrum @autchatmod Yes! Absolutely this. #autchat
AutisticZebra (Melissa) @AutisticZebra
#autchat Pre-chopped frozen onions!!!! Been having huge issues with my hands lately and I use onions in most dishes. https://t.co/9dSHyhe22Q
AutisticZebra (Melissa) @AutisticZebra
#autchat Tonight I cooked a Turkish lamb and chickpea stew. My dad taught it to me. I make it once a week. The base recipe is very adaptable and centre of most Turkish home cooking, you just change what type of meat or veg you put in. https://t.co/4Jq6nsPHjX
