Hello and welcome to #BPDChat - if you feel affected by tonight's chat please contact your country's helpline at https://t.co/GtlNdoZpFo

I have been clean for 17 days, struggling to get my life back on track. Went inpatient got my meds back, trying to re stabilize on them everything was going good. I now have a family member offering me drugs. Angry, of course you can say I'm angry. #bpdchat

Borderline Confused @BPDConfused
Hello my beautiful #BPDPeeps #bpdchat For me the most dificult thing is that people read sh!t on the internet and then say that all BPD is the same. Some people with BPD do nasty things sure, but that is true about everyone. We are unique just like evereybpdy else
Borderline Beauty @bpdbutbeautiful
@mira113 @hom3rjfong @CarlDunnJr Second that. What's worse is, it doesn't take much at all for me to interpret literally anything as abandonment. #BPDChat
Gemma Luescher-Verseckas @GemmaLuescher
@BpdBryan @CarlDunnJr I know it presents differently in men, but men have it for sure. The self harm presents differently as well( like punching hands through walls, provoking fights to get beaten up on purpose. As well as the typical cutting , or burning of self. #BPDchat

RT @BPD_Mumof3: @CarlDunnJr I have to walk away sometimes. It kills me to do so but honestly, sometimes it's needed. #BPDchat
Carl Dunn @CarlDunnJr
If you go straight to anger and miss your primary (original) emotion, you miss the chance to communicate what your primary emotion was to the other person, and they misunderstand you. #BPDChat 1/
BPD.MumOf3 @BPD_Mumof3
@sam_thomas86 @CarlDunnJr Agree with this. Respond, don't react! Easier said than done, but is effective #BPDchat

@CarlDunnJr Honest question: Does "lashing out" provide a dopamine high or anything of the sort? Because it can sometimes feel that way, at least temporarily. #BPDChat
♡ Amanda ♡ @Glass1ncision
@BPD_Mumof3 @CarlDunnJr Walking away is the best way to diffuse the situation. #bpdchat
Carl Dunn @CarlDunnJr
Example: If a friend stands you up (when you were supposed to go out), you may feel sad & disappointed. If you communicate your sadness (primary emotion) to your friend, they may want to make amends. #BPDChat 2/3

This! 🙌🏻 I try SO so hard, every single day. I am COMPLETELY unable to work. It isn’t about being lazy. I receive financial assistance from the government cause working is not an option for me, believe me, I have tried. My doctor got me on disability for a reason. #bpd #BPDChat

But if you never communicate your sadness (primary emotion) to your friend and instead you get angry and SCREAM at them, they may misunderstand & this might make things worse. #BPDChat 3/3
Carl Dunn @CarlDunnJr
@bpdbutbeautiful I'm guessing that's true. #BPDChat

@mira113 @Insane_Anna @CarlDunnJr So much yes. I spent 5 weeks over the holiday near my family (the longest I've been there since I moved away), and I had so many crises as time went on. Even being in the same state, an hour away from them, was stressful. #BPDChat
Gemma Luescher-Verseckas @GemmaLuescher
@bpdbutbeautiful @Insane_Anna @mira113 @CarlDunnJr I had to be across to the other side of the world and on the breaking point to finally process a death almost 40 years earlier. My mother claimed I enjoyed the victim stance. -I didn't enjoy it-nobody helped me process all the trauma I endured- or how my brain handled it #bpdchat
BorderlineFighter @lunarruler
@mira113 @bpdbutbeautiful @Insane_Anna @CarlDunnJr I seriously have to watch what family I'm seeing because they are triggers for me. Just being with them can make me angry and upset. It's things that's happened with them that make it that way. Toxic people have no place in your life. #BPDChat

@gacossey @Insane_Anna @mira113 @bpdbutbeautiful @CarlDunnJr I remember that statement growing up. #BPDchat

It's helpful to figure out what your primary (original) emotion is behind the anger and then respond to or communicate that primary emotion. #BPDChat 1/2
Carl Dunn @CarlDunnJr
ACCURATE EXPRESSION (accurately expressing your feelings & thoughts to other person) is healthy & can sometimes get a conversation or interaction back on track. (The other person can validate you or respond to you appropriately only if they know how you're feeling). #BPDChat 2/2

When angry, it's often smart to stop & think before you act. DBT has a 'STOP' skill. The STOP skill involves these steps: 1) Stop!, 2) Take a Step Back, 3) Observe the Situation, and 4) Proceed Mindfully (use your Wise Mind to decide what to do). #BPDChat https://t.co/lSshnorOE9

I felt safe to express my rage and anger for the first time when I was in the isolation room of the clinic. Wow that was something else - also that pink colour made my anger that much more intense. Feeling like I was given permission to be angry was something else.#BPDchat

DBT has a skill called "Opposite Action" that can help diminish or change your emotion when your natural emotional response does not make sense or would not be effective. #BPDChat 1/3

@incorrectfeels @CarlDunnJr I typically uncover my true emotion very shamefully after I lash or rage out in anger and it's too late then. My anger is so horrid. #bpdchat

"Opposite Action" for anger would be to gently avoid the other person or even to be a little bit kind - in other words, be decent. #BPDChat 2/3

@GemmaLuescher My husband once drove me out to the middle of the forest 5min from our apt, gave me two rotted pumpkins (post-Halloween), and let me throw them at trees and then bash them in with a bunch of sticks while I screamed until my throat hurt. It was extremely helpful. #BPDChat
