DBT suggests there are 3 states of mind: rational mind, emotion mind, and Wise Mind. Wise Mind combines the best of rational (logical) mind and emotional mind. #BPDChat

@Juliebynight Yes! I think taken care of yourself physically (being rested, having eaten, exercise at some times) can have a big influence on your mental state - taking care of yourself can help with keeping your emotions down & making good decisions. #BPDchat

I like to think of Wise Mind as the state of relaxed alertness. Being mindful and making good decisions. The goal of trying to spend more time in "Wise Mind" is meant to improve your life. #BPDChat

It's a good idea to be mindful of the intensity of your emotion when you have to make a decision - if your emotion is way up, at a 8, 9, or 10 (out of 10, 10 being the highest emotion), it may be good to postpone (if you can) the decision until your emotion diminishes. #BPDchat

@CarlDunnJr I think so. Emotion mind and “logic” mind are on a swinging pendulum for a reason. Yes, need to be able to switch between as needed but there are times which call for the extreme of one or the other. An exam for example, or the birth of a child. So many things really. #BPDChat
