Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed Q1. Winter diabetes - as in have you noticed your diabetes management is different (more insulin or less, stingy blood sugars in either direction - stuff like that,) in the winter (or another season,) and if so, how? #dsma

NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed A1: with the caveat that this is my first #diabetes winter, I have noticed my blood sugars have been more stable than earlier in the year. Its like my insulin resistance is hibernating. Also, the dry skin, especially on hands. #dsma
Mike Barry 💉 @mikebarry44 Q1 D-management is the same. Roll the dice every day. Nailing it though. Sickest A1Cs ever. Still, screw winter, let’s have spring! #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama A2. I’ve had people notice during hunting season their glucose and A1c lower and then go back up. I’d attribute it to increased activity. #DSMA
Jenn C @JennMamaBear Q1 I notice in winter the extra heavier comfort foods seem more carb heavy and harder for me to work with. #dsma
Brianna @TheChronicCon Q1: I don’t notice BG changes. I do have to make sure my pump isn’t right under the heated blanket though lol #dsma
Kelly Rawlings, MPH, PWD @KellyRawlings Q1 Winter diabetes...I have to work harder to not snack and to get physical activity, which affects my blood sugar mgmt and my weight. And my basal rates. Eureka, maybe I need seasonal basal settings! #dsma

Emilie T @SweetHiyachica A1. In the past, I've noticed I need more insulin in winter, but I haven't noticed it this year. Of course, it hasn't been a very cold winter, so who knows? #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 RT @DiabetesSocMed: Q1. Winter diabetes - as in have you noticed your diabetes management is different (more insulin or less, stingy blood sugars in either direction - stuff like that,) in the winter (or another season,) and if so, how? #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama I’m dumb tonight (good night for homework) that’s A1 #DSMA
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish Q1: I notice that I don’t move as much as I do in the summer which negatively impacts my blood sugars. I get lazy when it comes to tracking to the gym. I also tend to want to nest and eat warm comfort foods. #dsma #diabeted

Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin 1. Those of you who follow me know, but my BGs have been through the ROOF lately. Insane amounts of insulin. #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms Q1: I live in the south so winter is kind of wimpy (fine by me after 30 years of NY snow)! But it’s B’s least active time of year, which factors in. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish @zsquaredmama I am the opposite of you! #dsma

Perry Clanton @paclanton I have very much noticed due to all the wet weather. Work out routines have suffered because everything goes indoors. Hence my weight is going up. Spoke about this with my doc today. #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 @DiabetesSocMed Different? Two things: 1) Make sure my insulin doesn't freeze; and 2) Be ready for lows when shoveling snow #DSMA
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @JanJava Interesting. I’ve had a lot of people in the hospital in the summer because being out in our evil hear drops them. #DSMA

NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed A2: My go-to exercise is the treadmill (I think it is the video game aspect), so as long as I can get out the door, I can exercise regularly. However, getting out the door is hard somedays. #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 @DiabetesSocMed Q2. I give myself a break in the winter. Still try to stay active, but work hard to keep moving every day #DSMA

Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @diabetesproject: Q1 I dont notice seasonal shifts, I’m too fixated day to day #dsma
Mike Barry 💉 @mikebarry44 Q2 I have been sitting on my butt most of the winter. Occasional dog walks, work yoga, waiting for heat #DSMA
Diabetes Project @diabetesproject Q1. Very Dry skin in winter for sure #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms @Greecosuave @DiabetesCxns That’s so great to hear!! Thank you for listening. 😊 #dsma
Emilie T @SweetHiyachica A2. I'm going to an adapted exercise class right now. They purposely scheduled it this time of year, knowing it's so hard for people to get exercise outside. #dsma
Brianna @TheChronicCon Q2: My motivation for exercise has been nonexistent the last few moths due to the constant snow we seem to be getting. No idea how to combat it. #dsma
Kelly Rawlings, MPH, PWD @KellyRawlings @MTL613 @zsquaredmama @JanJava Cold makes it hard to get an adequate drop of blood for a BG test. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish Q2 Trying on new clothes that I bought in December that are tight now is making me get my arse to the gym! #dsma
Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed q3: I'm moderating so of course we are going to discuss food. When exercise is sparse - do you pay more attention to your meals? As in carbs, portions, etc? #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @nextwavet2d: @DiabetesSocMed A2: @DiabetesSocMed A2: My go-to exercise is the treadmill (I think it is the video game aspect), so as long as I can get out the door, I can exercise regularly. However, getting out the door is hard somedays. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @JennMamaBear: Q2 Having a gym membership helps year round. Set class schedules, and fellow gym rats, keep me going. #DSMA
Perry Clanton @paclanton I switch to treadmills and function fitness exercises. No, or limited equipment needed. My key is intensity that makes me sweat. #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama A2. I like to walk when it is colder, so in the neighborhood was great in October, November, and January. December I was sick and February I suck and it won’t stop raining! I can’t breath outside in our hot and humid. #DSMA
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama RT @DiabetesSocMed: q3: q3: I'm moderating so of course we are going to discuss food. When exercise is sparse - do you pay more attention to your meals? As in carbs, portions, etc? #dsma
Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin 2. I hate exercise, and when I'm accountable to nobody, I don't work out like I should. #dsma
Heather McCullen @H_SalemOaks Q2: my husband has a static bike trainer so he can use his bike indoors or outdoors. It’s good for keeping a routine through all the unpleasant Michigan weather. #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms Q3: hahahaha (I still can’t believe how much a 14 year old boy can eat) #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava A2. My activity level is very low right now & I've gained weight because of that. Yet any exercise results in lows 3 -5 hrs later. #dsma
Jenn C @JennMamaBear Q3 Nope. I should pay closer attention to food in general, but I don't change my observations with exercise or laziness. #DSMA
StephenS @StephenSType1 RT @DiabetesSocMed: q3: q3: I'm moderating so of course we are going to discuss food. When exercise is sparse - do you pay more attention to your meals? As in carbs, portions, etc? #dsma
NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed A3: Winter in the mid-Atlantic means less fresh produce and sometimes just poor quality produce (I’m looking at you, super firm oddly pink tomatoes). So dial back the variety, using more spices and hot sauces to keep it interesting. #dsma
Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin 3. Lately I've been trying to go lower-carb to help my numbers. But winter usually means carbier meals. It's SO not fair. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish Q3: For the most paRT, YES. I try and make lots of healthy soups and high-protein chili as main dishes. But the other part.... that part loves real hot chocolate and eats way too much cheese! #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @H_SalemOaks I wish I had room in the house for an elliptical. I would totally Netflix and workout. #DSMA
Mike Barry 💉 @mikebarry44 Q3 maybe a bit but do more mass cooking, chili, soup, etc. in the winter. It still has carbs/ protein/ fat #DSMA #fuckfoodmath
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @Pancreassassin: 2. I hate exercise, and when I'm accountable to nobody, I don't work out like I should. #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms @Greecosuave @DiabetesCxns Also #beatdook #dsma
Perry Clanton @paclanton A3. Yes, a must for me. Some foods I eat normally are in effect - off limits. I can't balance the carb load. #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 @DiabetesSocMed Q3. Oh, I've been paying close attention to everything I eat every day. Been eating less and less, trying to find fresher, healthier options #DSMA
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish @Pancreassassin You are honest and that’s great! #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @staceysimms: Q3: Q3: hahahaha (I still can’t believe how much a 14 year old boy can eat) #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @Pancreassassin: 3. Lately I've been trying to go lower-carb to help my numbers. But winter usually means carbier meals. It's SO not fair. #dsma
Diabetes Project @diabetesproject regular exercise is the hardest part of diabetes between work & life. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @StephenSType1: @DiabetesSocMed Q3. Oh, I've been paying close attention to everything I eat every day. Been eating less and less, trying to find fresher, healthier options #DSMA
Brianna @TheChronicCon Q3: not really. Have been in general though since I started doing keto in November. #dsma
Emilie T @SweetHiyachica A3. I'm watching my carbs all the time. I need a little work on portions. But none of that is connected to the time of year. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @zsquaredmama: @H_SalemOaks I wish I had room in the house for an elliptical. I would totally Netflix and workout. #DSMA
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava A3. I try to eat as much fresh, but harder in the winter. #dsma
Gautam Narang @hylozoists Good morning from India. Sorry for joining late. #DSMA
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish @zsquaredmama @H_SalemOaks ME TOO!#dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @diabetesproject: regular exercise is the hardest part of diabetes between work & life. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @SweetHiyachica: A3. I'm watching my carbs all the time. I need a little work on portions. But none of that is connected to the time of year. #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama I think this might be true of exercise for a healthy life regardless of having diabetes. #DSMA
StephenS @StephenSType1 @hylozoists Good morning! #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @hylozoists: Good morning from India. Sorry for joining late. #DSMA
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @hylozoists So glad you made it! #DSMA
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @H_SalemOaks: Q2: Q2: my husband has a static bike trainer so he can use his bike indoors or outdoors. It’s good for keeping a routine through all the unpleasant Michigan weather. #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava A3. Exercise limited to grocery shopping & carring the bags from parking lot up 2 flights of stairs to apartment. #dsma
A Diabetic Comic✊🏾 @ChelcieRice Q3 I’mstudying this Keto diet because I like meat. But definitely getting away from carbs. It’s kinda easy since I don’t care that much for stuff like bread and rice. #DSMA
Heather McCullen @H_SalemOaks @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed The grocery stores near me have questionable produce all the time. Except one very fancy one. At least in the summer I have the option of going to farm stands, or my own garden. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish Q3: A friend of mine mentioned that if you’re standing in line you should practice standing on 1 foot for 15 seconds and then the other foot for 15 seconds – it works out your core muscles. So yeah… That’s something #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 Only a couple more months... RT @SweeterCherise: Missing my #dsma family tonight.
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish We miss you! #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @SweeterCherise We miss you too. But you have some sweet new kicks to show with all your hard work! So proud of you!! #DSMA
Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin @ChelcieRice I'm trying to cut carbs, but I'm a vegetarian, and for some reason eggs spike my BG so hard! #dsma
Gautam Narang @hylozoists @DiabetesSocMed A3. Less activity less need of sugar. Eat less. But besides physical activity, mental activity also uses up carbs. So you may need more food. It depends on individuals #dsma
Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin @SweeterCherise Miss you too! #dsma
Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed q4. What are some healthy "go-to" meals that help keep you on track - or get you back on track? #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms @diabetesalish This is a fabulous way to work on balance too, esp as we get older. Do it while you brush your teeth! #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava @SweeterCherise you are missed...lots! #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @Pancreassassin @ChelcieRice If you eliminate the carb, you will see the effect protein has on glucose more pronounced. #DSMA
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish @H_SalemOaks @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed I’ve had good luck with #greengiant frozen riced vegetables – specifically the butternut squash, broccoli, and sweet potato - I make a hash and add onions and garlic, and jalapeño! #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish RT @DiabetesSocMed: q4. What are some healthy "go-to" meals that help keep you on track - or get you back on track? #dsma
Pancreassassin @Pancreassassin 4. Uh, I wouldn't call any of my go-to meals healthy. Looking for responses. #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1 RT @DiabetesSocMed: q4. What are some healthy "go-to" meals that help keep you on track - or get you back on track? #dsma
Emilie T @SweetHiyachica @Pancreassassin @ChelcieRice Cheese sends my BG up, and I love cheese. I'm experimenting with dosing for protein for snacks if I only have protein and fat but no carbs. #dsma
Stacey Simms @staceysimms @StrongerThanT1D Feel better!! #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama @diabetesalish @H_SalemOaks @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed I made the riced beets the other day with some chicken from the Instant pot. So yummy, but my microwave looked like someone had cut themselves shaving in the shower. Beet juice everywhere! We like the cauliflower and sweet potato blend too. @GreenGiant #DSMA
NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d @DiabetesSocMed A4: Frittatas for breakfast (green pepper and diced tomato). Hummus with Tobasco Chipotle sauce. Using mini peppers to dip in the hummus. #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava A4. Fresh fish pan "fried" without oil and a large mixed green salad with a piece of fruit for desert. #dsma
Kelly / Diabetes @diabetesalish Q4: this is a great hash with eggs! #also make veggie soup‘s like butternut squash and ginger carrot soups. Easy to make, lots of chopping re: carrots so exercise, easy on carbs& multiple meals #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama A4. We’ve started roasting a cauliflower on the weekend. It is awesome reheated under the broiler with some chicken sausage. #DSMA
Perry Clanton @paclanton A4 I have a low carb chilli that I enjoy. Also revisit the world of salads dressed different ways. Steaks top my list - cooked on a grill. #dsma
