@GbdocTChost Evening all. I'm Matt, living with T1D since 1986. Not even a love/hate relationship with it more of a hate/hate relationship. 😆 Hopefully out on the bike over the weekend. 🚴‍♂️ #gbdoc

Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost Hi I’m Deb. T1 for about 5yrs and I’m going to be spending my bank holiday with my little nephew & family #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost Hi everyone glad I saw this as I am a day ahead of everyone for some reason.😂💙 #GBDoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I take my insulin through pens. I havent really been given much choice about trying other avenues. #GBDoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
Hi I’m a GP, have had type 1 since age 11 and lead doc for diabetes in my practice (much more time spent thinking about type 2 professionally) #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost I’ve always been MDI & happy with it. I might be interested in a pump in the future but need to know more about it tbh. #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A1. Been using the pump now (640G) for 1.5 years. Love it and wish I'd done it sooner. Defo recommend it if you get the chance. #gbdoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
I’ve had omnipod for about 7 years. I much prefer to MDI because it makes exercise easier and I think I feel better! The downside is there are so many variables #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@type1bri @GbdocTChost @MedtronicUK I’m not sure a pump would be helpful when I’m exercising - I think it would hinder me unless I can wear it on my arm 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I use the 4mm needles, I don't remember anyone changing it. If they tried they wouldn't get far with me. #GBDoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
You can wear omnipod on your arm but I usually wear it on my abdomen ok for running, football and swimming! #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A2. Started on 8mm's in 1987 with the original Novopen. Only switched to 4mm about 3 years ago and now on pump. Had to buy own needles as not on prescription until early 90's. Pay for them yourself - you made them last. 😉😆 #gbdoc
Richard Allen @allen_gunners
@GbdocTChost I go for 4mm my life needles. Have no choice on brand my surgery give me the cheapest LOL #GBDOC
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost Serena, T1, I'll be having some early birthday drinks #GBDoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
Re Q2 there was a time when my CCG was trying to encourage GPs to switch to glucorx needles which are cheaper (we have a computer prompt system called scriptswitch). Does changing the brand of needles cause a problem? some patients were not happy others didn’t seem to mind #gbdoc

Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
It seems sensible to me to use most cost effective that don’t cause a problem but if there is a problem to switch back and issue replacement script quickly? #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost I love my BD 4mm needles (when you can get them) but often get the cheaper nastier ones which I deplore. #gbdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A1 I'm on MDI, Humalog and Lantus. I've never been offered a pump #GBdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost Q3. When on holiday I usually use the frio pouch but day to day I just carry it in my diabetic bag. #GBDoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@Drbeth_ Yes, I was a poor student 😉 and my DSN gave me a bagful of pen needles at clinic. After graduating I used to pay for them. #gbdoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
Q3 This #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@Type1Travels @rburkimsher The issue for me is when I’m doing Pilates/yoga and hanging upside down &/or lying on a reformer bed on my front/back 🤷🏼‍♀️ #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost Whether im travelling or out & about I use my frío packs. #gbdoc
Frances 💙 @FranAMH
@T1_broccoholic @Type1Travels @rburkimsher I do Pilates, pump in bra works #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A3. Don't bother. Went inter-railing in the 90's around Europe for a month including some very hot places. Insulin never saw a fridge and was in the bottom of my rucksack. I'm still here. #gbdoc

Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A2 I'm currently using 4mm needles, the make changed recently (and has changed make & size several times before) but my GP surgery did write to me to let me know this time #GBdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@allen_gunners @GbdocTChost Think that it’s colder temp until expiry date but out of fridge for around 4 weeks. At least that’s what the patient information sheets say. Along with “caution - may cause hypoglycaemia” #gbDOC
Frances 💙 @FranAMH
@GbdocTChost Mostly ok but sometimes hit sensitive bit (don't like feeling insulin going in!) #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost I always rotate, no lipos but ocasional bruising from MDI #gbdoc
FIT UK @FITforDiabetes
RT @GbdocTChost:
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A4. Yes, got lipo's on either side of abdomen and thighs. Okay I admit I was bit lax in rotating sites. 🙄 Better with cannulas as they're only changed every 3 days. #gbdoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
I think omnipod might be ok for this! #gbdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A3 I have a frio wallet, and I've used mini fridges when in hot countries #GBdoc
Richard Burkimsher @rburkimsher
Q4 one of the benefits of pump for me is less trouble with lipos and variable insulin absorption. I do get some minor skin reaction to omnipod though but put up with it for other benefits! For MDI 4mm needles, change each time and rotating sites helped #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost Oh I havent heard of lipos before so will be doing some Google reading. I have had lumps on the sides of my thighs and was told to avoid them. I then started using other parts of my body and really rotating. #GBDoc #notmuchofarebel
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@T1dJody @GbdocTChost I find the cheaper versions (not BD) are more fiddly to screw on & I have to ‘waste’ more insulin to make sure they are on properly but then again maybe it’s just me 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A5. Never injected through clothing but as mentioned before a needle would typically last the life of a pen cartridge (occasionally longer!). Bend it when putting cap on? Then simply bend it back! 😆 #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost Yeah I’m a naughty one! Inject through leggings/tights but with my jeans there’s often a hole in them that gives great access to my legs. Change needles once a day #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost People really change their needles after every injection? I only change it when the insulin runs out.☺ #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@fliss_r @GbdocTChost Have you seen those jeans that are designed for mdi’ers? Can’t remember the girls name that designed them but they looked pretty cool 😁 #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I have the bd needle clipper so I clip the needle part and throw away the bottom. Best thing ever.#GBDoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A6. In my area the GP surgery takes them. At diagnosis I was told to shove them in an empty drinks can and plug the top then normal household waste! #gbdoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@GbdocTChost I was prescribed a tiny sharps bin that’s been full for ages - can’t find anywhere to take it 🤷🏼‍♀️ #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost I use a @FrioUKLtd pouch to keep my insulin in when out and about. If staying anywhere for a while it can go in the fridge. The hard part is remembering to keep the frio pack wet at times #gbdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A6 My local authority collect and dispose of my sharps bin and give me a replacement. I have to book a collection, but can do this online and it works well. #GBdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@KatyBowers87 @GbdocTChost Have the biscuit and enjoy every bite. You only live ones.😂 #GBDoc
Deborah @T1_broccoholic
@T1dJody @GbdocTChost not after I inject just when I change it for a new one that I put the green bit on before I unscrew it then put the clear bit on if that makes sense? #gbdoc
