T2 MH myths include power of the devil, bad spirits, punishment for sin, treatment myths promote these myths via pull self up by boot straps, confess your sins, believe, ask for forgiveness. #irishmed
Rie Lopez, MPH (she/her) @RieOfLetters
T2: There are so many myths depending on population. The primary ones in US view #mentalhealth as a weakness/a personal failing. That if one "tries hard enough" they will get better. Some believe they deserve to suffer or it is punishment. #irishmed

@dualireland @annsinead @AodhanC @organiclemon "supporting" mental health is different than dealing with mental health issues/crisis...but you know that Dual!! #irishmed

@organiclemon Yes and patients independently but not all help is equal! Needs to meet standard and be included within formal care plan. #irishmed

T5 unfortunately medication is often our only option and usually, in my experience,it is not a very successful one #IrishMed
Adam Raymakers @AdamR_PhD
@drlfarrell T5. That's a good point. Health services provision (and compensation) needs to evolve and appreciate the difference between mental health and (perhaps more obvious) physical health. #irishmed
Adam Raymakers @AdamR_PhD
@drlfarrell T5. You're right. There is evidence to suggest that there is a positive association between club/community involvement, and individuals' self-rated overall and specifically their mental health. #irishmed

T5 when the triggers are poverty, childhood trauma, unemployment, poor housing it is difficult to see what we can offer except sympathy #IrishMed

T5: I manage my #mentalhealth challenges through managing my schedule, meditation, mindfulness practice, coloring, having a group of supportive friends and family, eating well and getting daily movement. I also take all prescribed medication as indicated. #irishmed

RT @wareFLO: I'll bet there is a way to state this in terms of workflow & then perhaps use workflow tech (engines, editors, analytics, etc) to create more transparent & systematically improvable healthcare workflows w/r/t suicide, what do you think? @mloxton? @StuckonSW? #IrishMed #NatCon18 https://t.co/FlEzoCJ04n
