@beth_morton A1 gardening is right out—the combination of heat, bright sun, and bending over is murder. Ditto hiking. I’ve given up on concerts and other live performances, and more recently movies as well, because of lights, noise, and crowds. #migrainechat

Beth Morton @beth_morton
A1. The list of things I've had to give up is long and lately, I've tried not to dwell on it because I'm struggling a bit (understatement). In terms of modifications, I now listen to #audiobooks instead of reading. That was hard at first, but now I enjoy them. @MigraineChat
Rebecca @PyesMusings
@beth_morton A1b And gave up dancing because anything that raises my heartrate significantly is bad. #migrainechat

@bhendykat @beth_morton It happens to the best of us! Welcome, Eric! #migrainechat
My Chronic Brain @mychronicbrain
@Alexandria_SZ @beth_morton That’s rough. Eating in a restaurant isn’t just the enjoyment of the food, but the ability to socialize outside of the home. #MigraineChat
Jenn Heater, Chief Oddity (she/her) @Medical_Oddity
A1: Reading. I used to be a vociferous reader. Now, I listen to a lot of audiobooks, but once in a while I am able to read on the @AmazonKindle app with big font and a darkened screen. So at least there are options for me to still hold on to my love of books. #MigraineChat
Amy Mincher @historymincher
@beth_morton A1. I had to skip my gentle yin yoga class today because I'm exhausted after a multi-day migraine attack. #migrainechat
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@Alexandria_SZ Missing out on food triggers is a hard for me, too. So many social activities are food based and eating outside the home is really tricky. #MigraineChat

@beth_morton Hi. #migraines take me out of life at the worst times. Paid for a family trip to Disneyland and was in hotel for most of 4 days with a migraine while kids played with family. Treating with Topomax and Imitrex. Usually get 2-3 bad ones per week. 🤯 #migrainechat

Democracy Over Demagogues @freeandclear1
@beth_morton Q1 #migrainechat my career, when I had reached a good point in it. Dancing and yoga can be triggers so I tend to avoid those two activities that I love. Also, I stay by myself to avoid synthetic fragrances on people and clothing in crowds.
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@SarahLerner Yoga is so hard. For me, any pose that puts my head lower than my heart.... forget it. I'm good with corpse pose (that's the one where you just lay there, right?!) #MigraineChat.

RT @beth_morton: Q2. What activities do you enjoy in spite of #migraine or have you started because of migraine? #MigraineChat
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@bhendykat @Alexandria_SZ I've developed pretty strong willpower. It's just not worth it. But lately I've been trying to reintroduce foods. It's not an easy process when I have symptoms every day regardless. I don't know what is making them worse. #MigraineChat
Democracy Over Demagogues @freeandclear1

@beth_morton A2 I used to have trouble with reading but be ok with tv, so I learned to crochet and did a lot of binge-watching while crafting. Recently sitting up and tv have been bad, but I’ve been able to read on my smartphone (it’s permanently redshifted, white text on black) #migrainechat
Rebecca @PyesMusings
@beth_morton A2b so I’ve been reading a lot, basically all fiction bc nonfiction isn’t distracting enough. Last year I set myself the challenge of reading every Hugo-nominated fiction work in time to cast a ballot, and will probably do that again this year. #migrainechat

@beth_morton A1. I’ve had to stop participating in strenuous exercise. Cardio triggers migraines every time no matter how much I hydrate before/during/after. Hiking too and I love it. I still hike occasionally and brace for the inevitable pain. Mostly stick to walking or yoga #MigraineChat

@beth_morton A spoonie friend and I used to sing together at my apartment back when I was up half the night with pain. That went by the wayside as I had to start keeping regular hours and she couldn’t do so, #migrainechat
Rebecca @PyesMusings
@beth_morton but once my kids are old enough for me to be out of the house during bedtime once a week, I’m hope/planning to join a choral group; I might have to take a cab or ask for a ride some weeks, but I think it would be worth it. #migrainechat

@beth_morton A5. It gets depressing having to cancel all the time, but my body needs me to rest. If I push too hard I'll only get worse. It's definitely annoying to those who don't understand, but that's their problem. Not mine. It took me a while to understand that. #migrainechat

A6: If I could have a guaranteed #migraine-free day, I would go to the movies with my kids, have a high-octane coffee, and climb one of the local mountains and bask in the sunshine without my sunglasses on! I might even go to a concert!! #migrainechat

@beth_morton A4. I try to clear my schedule the day before and after to save energy. I also like to have a backup plan or backup date, if possible. I stay close to home or the home of a family member in case I need to check out. At family events, I stake out a rest room/ bed. #MigraineChat

@CMLifeblog @beth_morton I was reading your post and I realized that we have a lot of these things & modifications in common! Well, except for the power yoga. 😊 #MigraineChat
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A1. #MigraineChat #Migraine really started to impact my ability to do the things I love in college & grad school. At this point pretty much everything must be modified. I used to be very physically active and loved hiking and camping.
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@PyesMusings @freeandclear1 I am trying to write a blog about this - hope, acceptance, change - but can't get my thoughts out in a clear way. #MigraineChat

@beth_morton A5. Canceling plans is really hard. I make a lot fewer plans than I used to, & usually with people close to me. I still try to include a caveat like "if my brain is up for it." Practicing mindfulness helps me honor my disappointment without being too mean to myself. #MigraineChat

@beth_morton A6. I would go on a road trip. If I could guarantee a whole month of no migraine, I would break out my passport. A good friend moved to Lisbon and I'm dying to visit. I was also planning/dreaming up a backpacking trip in SE Asia when I became chronic #MigraineChat
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A2. I have picked up hobbies that I wouldn’t have without my illness - its hard for me separate #Migraine from the rest of my conditions - but I now enjoy crocheting, and being a stay at home dog mom 😂 I also still love to travel although it’s much more complicated now!
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@CMLifeblog I had a multi-week trip through the UK - starting in London ending in Northern Ireland, spending a good chunk of time in Scotland. I'd love to do more of Europe and South America. Heck, anywhere. But, alas, not in the cards right now. #MigraineChat
Beth Morton @beth_morton
@CMLifeblog I am renewing my passport and I wouldn't rule out a trip, but it would have to be with someone who is ready to take on the planning and be super flexible. #MigraineChat
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A3. #MigraineChat - I don’t leave the house without migraine glasses/FL-41 tinted glasses, water w/ electrolytes like @NormaLyte pure, PRN meds (zofran, phenergan, baclofen, dye-free benedryl, compounded pain cream etc...) & my @vogmask
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A4. #MigraineChat - I like to make plans 1-1, during the afternoon (my best time of day). I choose locations that I know are less likely to be loud/busy. It also really helps to have friends who are also living #chroniclife - we check in with each other the morning of our plans!
TheraSpecs @TheraSpecs
RT @CMLifeblog: @beth_morton A3. Zofran, Om balm or peppermint essential oil, water, ginger candies, sunglasses + Theraspecs for indoors, a hat, earplugs or noise canceling headphones (or both if I'm traveling), Dramamine ( for vertigo if traveling), bags of peppermint tea #MigraineChat
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A5. #MigraineChat - it is a hard thing to have to do. But it is easier when the people in your life understand that we aren’t unreliable, our bodies are! And yes, really truly enjoying and soaking in the good days helps to soften the blow.
Sara Blazar Sharpe @zebrawrites
A6. #MigraineChat - I’m totally with you on this one. I’d travel and do it in a way you just can’t when you have to consider our finicky bodies. Eat ALL of the food, drink as I please, have new and beautiful experiences.

@beth_morton I’ve been an avid reader since I was 3 but I have to set myself limits and make sure I don’t do things like read on something that’s moving (train, car, bus). One of my earliest memories is triggering a migraine and subsequently a seizure from reading in the car 😩 #MigraineChat
Adele Jayde @hawkeye2_
I take proper painkillers everywhere, emergency ones in every bag I own. I have either a balm or roll on of peppermint & lavender oil with me. And a vomit bag stays in my handbag/backpack at all times. #MigraineChat

@CMLifeblog @beth_morton A1. I switched hard copy books to Kindle🔥. W the options to adjust text size, background color, brightness & blue shade. Reading helps me get through the rough times.
