UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Welcome to tonight’s chat @tomroper here at the #ukmedlibs controls, and @JuicyPearSeed is going to lead us through the world of current awareness
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs So my job is just to remind you to use the hashtag #ukmedlibs. If you don’t people following won’t see your words of wisdom, and they’ll be lost to the transcript too
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Do introduce yourselves. And you’ll find the questions at https://t.co/n11vBQnz47 #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann Louise Levitt from west Middx hospital library and knowledge service #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q1. Do you produce your own current awareness bulletins, circulate bulletins produced by other services or both? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann I currently produce a monthly evidence update bulletin for the o&g department. We also circulate a health management bulletin. #ukmedlibs
Caroline Storer @StorerCaroline Hi I'm Caroline, knowledge manager at NHS Digital. Q1 We produce our own and use others #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs #ukmedlibs
Emma Shaw @handylibrarian RT @hammerslibrary:
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @hammerslibrary Excellent course! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Throwing Q2 in now: What characterises a high quality bulletin? Are there any that you’d recommend as exemplary? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Q2. Relevance and high level evidence? Systematic reviews, guidelines #ukmedlibs
Caroline Storer @StorerCaroline Q2 Current! Short and concise or in sections so people can easily pick out what they need #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs And here’s Q3 How are you evaluating your current awareness bulletins? Do you look at usage, reach or impact? What are your findings? #ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Q3. I need to do a formal evaluation. Anecdotally I’ve had some great feedback #Ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q4 How much time do you spend in an average week on your current awareness bulletins (compiling, modifying and circulating)? #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs Catching up on #ukmedlibs whilst watching #GBBO.
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann @UKMedLibs Q4. About an hour (only producing one bulletin at the moment) #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs A1) @midyorkslibrary we produce two current awareness bulletins, one monthly & one quarterly. We also distribute two other bulletins (kindly shared with us by other LKS services) 😁 #sharing #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs A2) Relevant up-to-date information presented in an easy to read/follow format #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs A3) we try & obtain feedback from subscribers (although as we all know this can be tricky). We’ve recently counted subscribers & will probably continue to do so to measure impact etc #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Q5 Have you used the Knowledge for Healthcare current awareness bulletin guidelines and bulletin repository (https://t.co/Zh5DJXgU6c) to inform your practice or source bulletins? #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs A4) I’m not very heavily involved in the creation of our #current awareness publications, more of my time is spent on the distribution/promotion of them 🙂 #ukmedlibs
Caroline Storer @StorerCaroline Q5 Yes I looked at both when I started a new bulletin a year a go #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs And last question for tonight, Q6 The principle behind the guidelines and repository is to facilitate collaboration and reduce duplication in bulletin production. Whether you’re a creator or distributor of bulletins, what would help colleagues to “do once and share”? #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs #ukmedlibs A5 - we haven’t added our bulletins to the repository yet, but I am going to share this with my colleagues at @midyorkslibrary as I think it would be good to. It would be good to use it to source more bulletins too 🙂
Natasha @natashaswork @hammerslibrary @UKMedLibs Promotion of bulletins via social media, website, word of mouth & having some physical copies of the bulletins we produce in the library🙂 #Ukmedlibs
Louise Levitt @LouiseWann Any chance knowledgeshare might be a national resource at for library services at some point? Just a thought.. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs And so, as the Ford Anglia of time fails the MOT test of eternity, and the dappled donkey of fate ambles towards the abbatoir of destiny, time for #ukmedlibs is up
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Do carry on chatting. The transcript keeps recording till 21.15 #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs But let’s thank @JuicyPearSeed for leading us. And thanks to you all for your contributions, and for maintaining focus in spite of baking temptations #ukmedlibs
Natasha @natashaswork @UKMedLibs #ukmedlibs A6) perhaps further raising awareness of the repository (& the contents within it), creating email lists of interested LKS services (we’ve done this for our non-medical prescribing bulletin)
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs We’ll be back in October with a special chat on #KnowledgeManagement preparing for #knowvember18 8 pm, 16th October. See you then #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs Transcript will be up tomorrow #ukmedlibs. We’ll tweet and put a blog post up when it’s available |
