UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Good evening all, welcome to our first #ukmedlibs chat with the full 280 characters (whether you like them or not). Please do introduce yourself. I am @samanthaclare and will be your host for tonight! (@Hollingtonn is at a gig and @tomroper is on the way back from London!)
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Tonight's chat takes a look at the LKS development needs analysis (available here https://t.co/KTRfa76D2s). Members of the development team @Thompson241 and @The_Mr_Cook will be taking part and answering your tweets! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
And with a quick reminder to use the #ukmedlibs hashtag or your tweets will not be recorded for posterity, our first question is…Have you see the Development Needs Analysis Report?
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@janetsampson33 @Thompson241 @samanthaclare @Hollingtonn @tomroper Ooh sorry - didn’t mean to leave you out!! #ukmedlibs
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@UKMedLibs @samanthaclare @Hollingtonn @tomroper Hugh - NHS librarian from up North #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Just reiterating the first question - have you seen the Development Needs Analysis report? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
It looks like some have and done haven’t. Is there a reason why not? #ukmedlibs https://t.co/lbARRWffcS
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Question 2: Do you think all development areas were covered in the survey? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Also - if you are replying to individuals in this chat please do use our hashtag! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@LibraryUnedited I think it has been known as a TNA in the past. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Question three then is: Have you used the results from the DNA in any way? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@RuthCarlyle that's an interesting point - I can't remember if there was space for people to add their own options or suggestions for development. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook I think that while valuable, the PKSB is not used or known by everyone as not all are members of CILIP & I assume it's only accessible if people are members? #ukmedlibs
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@RuthCarlyle I would agree -just hit summer time followed by LQAF submissions - not a great time #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@RuthCarlyle yes I would agree - I have an email notification of new posts to the blog, but I seem to have missed this one! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
and this is the perfect moment to ask question four - Do you think the DNA has made an impact/could make an impact in your region? #ukmedlibs https://t.co/dUwudGaCQC
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@iroberger that seems to be a perennial problem within #ukmedlibs whether publicising to our own LKS staff or others. I.E. I noticed that nearly 2/3 of staff don't use the KfH Learning Zone - is that publicity related?
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@UKMedLibs Q4 - yes it has great potential - but like any tool you can choose to use it or not #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@abombolo interesting isn't it - does the analysis offer a regional breakdown of topic areas? #ukmedlibs @The_Mr_Cook and @Thompson241
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@abombolo Thats certainly an issue elsewhere - possibly its the convenience or inconvenience factor? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook @iroberger so the question to ask (I think) is why not? #ukmedlibs is that due to publicity, are the materials not right, do people not have time?
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook @abombolo @Thompson241 that would be worth exploring I think - do people know about this e.g @BristleBoy for the South? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
and our next question (possibly number five!) Where does the DNA sit within the wider profession/ can it inform other sectors? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@abombolo it would be interesting to cross-match that with those staff that ARE revalidating with CILIP - there is bound to be a direct correlation. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
I thiink the autocorrect imps sabotaged you! #ukmedlibs https://t.co/ajT5c9HGdY
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@ukmedlibs I think the differences in development needs across the bands is very interesting. You can see how it progresses from day to day stuff to strategic needs #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
ok question 6 Do you have any ideas for increasing number of people completing the survey? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
although I think that 758 respondents is very good! #ukmedlibs What is the potential maximum??! https://t.co/dwytFDlOEw
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@UKMedLibs I think the response rate was pretty good #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook threats? I think I have completely lost the plot here!? #ukmedlibs
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@UKMedLibs do people feel a connection with it - or is it just something they do because they have been asked/told to respond? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook @hanchardh It's your question!!! (the development team anyway!!) #ukmedlibs Were you expecting more?
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook Oh I get it now! NO biscuits for you unless.....! Not sure that's quite powerful enough! :-) #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@hanchardh now that's a good question - I know that my local CPD guy @BristleBoy will take note of it and plan for local events accordingly. So that helps me to feel engaged with filling it in, #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
ok our penultimate question is number 7.What do you consider to be the most positive outcomes of the Development Needs Analysis? #ukmedlibs
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
Q6 maybe plan the survey immediately before the planning cycle for training in the region and this could be used to demonstrate the direct link between what they asked for and what they get offered #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook @hanchardh and how many did you get previously? #ukmedlibs
Hugh Hanchard @hanchardh
@UKMedLibs q7 one benefit is you can see what some of the drivers are - eg costing training 34 out of 39 asked for so they could comply with LQAF #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@LuceSinclair1 that's a good idea - to show newly qualified staff what others are interested in and thus what they themselves are likely to be interested int? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@The_Mr_Cook @hanchardh hmmm 715 for the last one - so you did get more than that! It would be interesting to see a percentage of all staff totals although I understand that's not easy to obtain. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
and our last question for tonight's chat is: Have the DNA results allowed you to plan/attend events which are specific to your locality/region? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@Thompson241 @The_Mr_Cook @hanchardh dancing around the room!?!? #ukmedlibs
Heather Steele @HeatherBake
Yes, some really useful events too #ukmedlibs https://t.co/KKEmqY3fsM
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
RT @CILIPHLG:
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@abombolo that sounds an intriguing idea - that career progression is important. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Well, we are just coming up to 9pm. Thank you for taking part in our DNA chatter! Do take a closer look at the report if you haven't done so already! #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
and as ever, the transcript and analytics will be available as soon as possible. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
we haven't quite come up with a theme for our Christmas chat just yet, but do watch out for us! #ukmedlibs
Heather Steele @HeatherBake
I'm glad I caught the end #ukmedlibs 😊
