Some questions to help focus the chat. We’ll post these at intervals during the chat #ukmedlibs https://t.co/DGVTJpcO8r
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Welcome to today’s #ukmedlibs chat. We thought we’d look at CPD, and how people have been keeping up with CPD in the time of COVID-19 https://t.co/9TmIQV2RG4
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
It’s @tomroper here at the #ukmedlibs controls, supported by the rest of the team: @samanthaclare @Hollingtonn and @LuceSinclair1
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Here’s the questions we’ll be using #ukmedlibs https://t.co/8kMcCBa07z

First, do introduce yourselves, and, if you wish, tell us if you had any big CPD ambitions for lockdown #ukmedlibs https://t.co/NsGs6gLfeU
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
#ukmedlibs Sarah Lewis, Library Manager at Bucks Healthcare and also on the national HEE LKS CPD team representing the South (Thames Valley, Wessex and South West)
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
And here’s our first #ukmedlibs question: Is it easier to keep up with your professional development now, or harder? https://t.co/mmrVrw5RhT
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Looks as if we have a number of people involved in CPD provision in the chat today, as well as “consumers” Your perspectives will be really interesting #ukmedlibs
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
@archelina #ukmedlibs - this sums up my experience as well Rachel
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
So what sorts of things have people been doing? #ukmedlibs
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
#ukmedlibs Q1 I've also found it trickier to keep track of all the CPD my team are taking part in and finding it harder somehow to share our learning with each other
Helen Watts @Watts6Helen
@archelina #ukmedlibs Q.1 for me it's been harder. less time to devote to your own CPD and less opportunity.
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Just as we had to move services online, so CPD providers for #ukmedlibs had to do the same: @CILIPHLG @LKSS_LKS to name but two
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
On to the #ukmedlibs question 2: What are the best CPD resources/events you’ve used or taken part in? https://t.co/wt0Zw6B2vX
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Is anyone going to the big conferences that have moved online, e.g. @MedLibAssn or @EAHIL_2020? #ukmedlibs (Our own @CILIPHLG conference is still face to face, next April)
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
@cmmclaren @archelina @CILIPHLG We are thinking of having another go at piloting a virtual buddying scheme in the South. Still in the early stages and there is lots to think about how to make it a success. #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Interesting mentions of some CPD events provided by non-library organisations in the #ukmedlibs chat today. The RSM’s COVID-19 series are very good: https://t.co/GcGGWYFsVR
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Interesting that you’re discussing the informal aspects: we’ve a question on that. Shall we organise a #ukmedlibs pub?
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
By the way, we’ll try to put links up to particular events/resources with the transcript, so do quote a URL if you can #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Here’s Q3: Have you used informal ways to keep professionally in touch and up to date? #ukmedlibs https://t.co/TlcnvwATPE
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
On the less formal front, those of you doing CILIP registration, what do you think of the new regulations? Chiefly, mentors are no longer compulsory #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
(Late appearance of Q3, which you’re already discussing, is due to my incorrect estimation of the pace and direction of the discussion: beware scheduling tweets) #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@JuicyPearSeed It’s a choice, so candidates can still have a mentor, and most would want to. May be a response to dwindling number of @CILIPinfo mentors? #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@Librarian1703 @cmmclaren @JuicyPearSeed Hashtags please folks! #Ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
And last question, what next? what are your plans? What do you think CPD is going to look like in the future? #ukmedlibs https://t.co/QMU2SgFVk5
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Sure @CILIPHLG would mention it, but for face-to-face opportunities, #HLG2021 goes ahead as a real event that you can travel to! #ukmedlibs https://t.co/CNWRbCFIZS
Caroline Storer @StorerCaroline
#UKMedLibs
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
@UKMedLibs #UKMedLibs I also think it will be interesting to see what happens within HE and whether the move to more online learning might increase the range and availability of distance learning modules on all sorts of topics of interest to LKS staff
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Good thought! Could be very interesting #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Just to throw in a thought in the last few minutes, no one so far has mentioned reading professional literature as a CPD resource #ukmedlibs
Sarah Lewis @lewis_m_sarah
@UKMedLibs Good point. Starting to see a few LKS current awareness bulletins which are helpful for keeping up to date. Also several virtual journal clubs. Our small team is hoping to have our first virtual reflective reading club in a few weeks #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
Thanks everyone, that was really interesting. Trascript and links will be up tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for taking part so enthusiastically, and special thanks to @hammerslibrary for the excellent gifs #ukmedlibs
UKMedLibs @UKMedLibs
@lewis_m_sarah And don’t forget HILJ journal club: https://t.co/3weqorPOV6 #ukmedlibs
