Happy Friday, #HITsm. Peeking in from #KC today. Love the topic today. Just returned from a #CloudNative conference last week speaking on CI/CD using cloud native constructs in #HealthCare. Let’s go!! https://t.co/SPLKRil40V

A1: When I think of cloud #healthIT, I first worry about enforcement of HIPAA safeguards. I then drift into IT staffing & planning! #HITsm
Greg Meyer @Greg_Meyer93
T1: You need to define #CloudNative as the tech definition doesn't care if you're running on-prem or in a public cloud. CloudNative is an architecture that includes an operating env; not where you're hosting. #HITsm

Hmmm. I bet Dr. Seuss has some wonderful quotes about workflow! #HITsm https://t.co/437Mb5F8Qm
Corinne Stroum @healthcora
@burtrosen TL;DR: #healthIT in the cloud offers a key marketing opportunity! The goal is to reduce TCO by "pay-for-use" rather than capital expenses on hardware. Plus, your service provider maintains/updates the hardware & software for you #HITsm
Greg Meyer @Greg_Meyer93
Don’t need cloud to do that. Again, we have a nomenclature break down in cloud and #CloudNative. They are two different things. #HITsm https://t.co/fwDHisC8T0

Greg Meyer @Greg_Meyer93
To an extend. Mgmt of the underlying software in most IAAS models is your problem. #HITsm https://t.co/KAZk7XPMDN
Chuck Webster MD, MS AI, MS Systems Engineering @wareFLO
This is my sense, taken all and all, cloud based systems can actually be more secure than traditional systems (ability to hire the right experts to essentially outsource critical security to infrastructure "done right") #HITsm https://t.co/EsKp4ochSh

Corinne Stroum @healthcora
@Greg_Meyer93 I'm a key participant in BAAs, but I still put myself into the perspective of the C-suite: they have the most insight & influence on their own staff. #HITsm
Erkang Zheng @erkang
@HealthcareScene @genkidave for one - building "walls" for defense will no longer work cuz it's already in the cloud. but that can be an advantage to build a zero-trust infrastructure. #HITsm

@techguy The technical aspects of security are better in the cloud. But access to more data by more people increases likelihood of leaks. So the process to manage access becomes much more important. #HITSM
John Lynn @techguy
Talking to a startup recently, I described that I hadn't seen a single new company in #HealthIT that's not chosen to leverage the cloud. What does that say? #HITsm https://t.co/sh1c4ispDK

#SecOps 👈 Click it! Good stuff. (after #DevOps & #BizOps) Application of workflow tech to #CyberSecurity #InfoSec) Especially relevant to cloud based systems due to latency between cloud and local computing platforms. Therefore need to specify executable sec policies #HITsm https://t.co/An4Hn2lzxt
Corinne Stroum @healthcora
@techguy #Just2017Things If you're starting up now, there is legitimately no reason not to build into the cloud #HITsm
David Fuller @genkidave
Good point -- CloudNative = not hosting virtual machines in the cloud. Or just moving data to the cloud. It's about utilizing cloud infrastructure such that the elastic nature of cloud computing can be leveraged -- while also guaranteeing data is ultra secure. #HITsm
Greg Meyer @Greg_Meyer93
T2: This is a loaded question. A lot of #HealthIT is not cloud native ready, so moving to hosted platforms is more of a “lift and shift” with small relative realized value vs what you get with real cloud native systems. You’re “in the cloud” but not really cloud native #HITsm
Colin Hung @Colin_Hung
A2 The environmentalist in me applauds shutting down small individual data centers and building new efficient ones for private-clouds. Plus the cost to maintain old data centers is high! #HITsm
Corinne Stroum @healthcora
Preach! #HITsm https://t.co/weYWIohfFR
Colin Hung @Colin_Hung
@genkidave A2 Great distinction. #HITsm
John Lynn @techguy
A fair point. The cloud can create a honeypot that hackers love. #HITsm https://t.co/0ZEndm6ogr
David Fuller @genkidave
Right! Single instance deployments -- whether premise or hosted in data centers or 'in the cloud'. do not maximize hardware/storage or change how new features are rolled out. Think Facebook vs. Epic -- radically different deployment models. #HITsm https://t.co/PB45CwZldT
Corinne Stroum @healthcora
T2 I'm a fan of elasticity/scalability. Spinning up a new machine/service to contribute to compute-heavy #healthanalytics work is a cinch in the cloud... and the resource can disappear when it completes its job! #HITsm
GLHC_HIE @GLHC_HIE

@ShimCode I play ultimate frisbee for that long. I'd rather chase a piece of plastic than just running around. #HITsm
Chuck Webster MD, MS AI, MS Systems Engineering @wareFLO
BTW, principle also applies to non cloud systems. For example, modern workflow management systems (#BPM) increasingly reply on data virtualization layers within which the right people create the right code to protect the right data, instead of relying in duffer programmers #HITsm https://t.co/0IWzYgZHxZ
Anthony Leon @anthonynotleon
@healthcora @techguy Yup! I've talked to start ups almost every day for the past 4 years needing interop and can't really recall a single one not being in the cloud. #hitsm
John Lynn @techguy
@healthcora Indeed. So, if that's the case, should any of the on premise providers argue that they're better? #HITsm
Gus Bekdash @Gus_Bekdash
@techguy Traditional security & authorization methods may not suffice in a complicated ecosystem like #healthcare made of many parties. May need #AI-based dynamic security may become necessary to balance privacy vs. urgency, apply complicated rules, etc. #HITSM
Greg Meyer @Greg_Meyer93
T2: The side that many folks ignore is the automation potential with elasticity. Systems like Mesos give a toolkit for automation, but you still have to build it (BAD BAD BAD!!!). Looking at a platform that manages apps and platform is the nirvana. #HITsm
Corinne Stroum @healthcora
@wareFLO Do you have any whitepapers/references on this? My first #healthIT work was in #BPM but I didn't hear about this advancement... #HITsm
