T1 A meme in social media is a visual element that catches on and, preferably, goes viral. #HealthXPh
Chuck Webster MD, MS AI, MS Systems Engineering @wareFLO
Great topic! Chuck here for #healthxph BTW I’ve made a lot of workflow memes. 2nd BTW Roommate from collage wrote first book about #memes

#Healthxph An image usually that has a funny element, that get shared by many people.

@jimlopez875 You bet! #HealthxPH https://t.co/FIDm5dsNN5
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
I guess its the funny part thats important? or witty? #healthxph thats got to be the one that makes it β€œshareable”
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
T1. when one sees a meme, somehow you can immediately relate to it. it puts a smile on your face and you just can't resist sharing it. #healthxph
Jarvin Tan @Jetlax
Jarvin here. Tulala mode as I lurk on #HealthXPh
Stephanie Miaco, M.D. @StephMiaco
Catchy/timely β€œshow-but-not tell” funny quotables that people can really relate to. Also, if they have a photo that’s an β€œappropriate” facial expression, that’s a winner in my book. #HealthXPh
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@rheumarhyme although i read somewhere, memes may not be necessarily funny. #healthxph

T1. When a post becomes something that demonstrates a usual but unexamined social practice in a funny way, it has a potential to be a meme. #HealthXPh
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
@thestreetgazer Expressions are hard to put into words, so images really work #healthxph
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@thestreetgazer yes i agree. catchy, timely and hits a chord common to a lot. #healthxph
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
Memes are mostly funny so people remember them. The message sticks with humor. #healthxph
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
@cebumd agree doc; could be witty, snarky, punny, but theres also mean memes. #healthxph
Stephanie Miaco, M.D. @StephMiaco
@rheumarhyme I agree! 😁 #healthxph
Jerome Cleofas, PhD, RN (he/they) β™₯οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ @SocioJCleofasRN

𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
@jimlopez875 @cebumd i love those kind of memes. the ones with annoyed faces. πŸ˜‚ #healthxph
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@rheumarhyme i want to see an example of that "serious" meme. health related memes might have some of these perhaps coz health is often a serious issue. #healthxph

Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@jimlopez875 i remember during one Valentines day, PCHRD Facebook page shared my 5 reasons why research is better than your lovelife. one of them is "In Research, there's a proposal." #healthxph It got a lot of shares.

Jarvin Tan @Jetlax
I'm really digging the "dank" format nowadays. Out-of-context everyday situations spun into new, clever meanings The best is when they evolve into even more clever interpretations, or are combined (eg. Pikachu shocked x black hole) #HealthXPh

not sure if these can be considered memes, but these are all I can come up with at the moment. #healthxph https://t.co/A2j4lZKS3Q
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@earlouismd this is one health-related meme. i like it. #healthxph
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@jimlopez875 Any platform or method can be used to deliver messages, be it health-related or otherwise. If you want people to receive your message, you need to be creative! #healthxph it's all in marketing!

@jimlopez875 T2: Hello Anti-Vaxxers! #HealthXPh https://t.co/e7RJtUx6r0
Narciso Tapia MHPEd @cebumd
@jimlopez875 the meme just shared by @earlouismd pushes a health message. #healthxph
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
I think Yes.... but i also think its like a commercial. Meron patok, meron hindi. But how will we know? πŸ€” #healthxph
Jarvin Tan @Jetlax
In addition to pushing health messages, they can also help in stimulating discussion For example, the recent "food tiers" template evolved to cover other matters beyond food. When I tried applying to psych meds, ppl began sharing their exp's #HealthXPh https://t.co/Nhi2m388Xs
Jerome Cleofas, PhD, RN (he/they) β™₯οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ @SocioJCleofasRN
T3. I guess it is based on a message that we need to send. Memes are both laden with cognitive and affective meanings, so we choose topics/messages that will make people learn and reflect, rather than be offended by. #HealthXPh

Harry Trinidad @sirdoc
@jimlopez875 T3: I think best use of a meme for health advocacy is either as a humorous motto or as the headline image of an article, something to capture attention for a post. #HealthXPH
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@erestepen i guess it depends on the message you're trying to get across. Some messages are more effective dramatic than with humor. #healthxph

Jerome Cleofas, PhD, RN (he/they) β™₯οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ @SocioJCleofasRN
T3. Also, when sharing a meme for purposes of informing people on health, I think it should be well planned. Memes can prompt discussions and get attention for a topic. But its effect is maximized when there is a follow through using more immersive educative tools #HealthXPh
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
RT @erestepen:
Jarvin Tan @Jetlax
@rheumarhyme @jimlopez875 Quick segue po but I've been curious for a while on what makes monggo exempt from the usual precautions for gout. Most people I talk to still say that it still carries the same risks with the other risky foods #HealthXPh
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@erestepen agree. for a meme to be effective, it has to be sensitive to the culture of the audience and to the nature of the health issue. #healthxph
Harry Trinidad @sirdoc
@rheumarhyme Some memes go out of style quickly. Need to keep up with the times. And some lose context with some cultures. Like some won't get the most interesting man meme. #HealthXPH
Jerome Cleofas, PhD, RN (he/they) β™₯οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ @SocioJCleofasRN
@raymondnaguit @jimlopez875 I guess, it would be nice to ask a colleague for comments on memes we've made and/or like to publish to get impressions before we decide to make them public. #HealthXPh
Jerome Cleofas, PhD, RN (he/they) β™₯οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ @SocioJCleofasRN
@raymondnaguit @jimlopez875 Example, when there are memes that involve any mental health condition, probably we need to ask mental health practitioners whether the message is correct, acceptable and not triggering or trivializing before use #HealthXPh
𝓛𝓲𝓼π“ͺ t. πŸ³πŸ—ΊπŸ§ @rheumarhyme
@erestepen @raymondnaguit This is true. Sometimes i find funny memes but i dont know where the image came from (a movie or a tv show) & apparently its even funnier if u know the background #healthxph

Jarvin Tan @Jetlax
@DrJeromeCleofas @raymondnaguit @jimlopez875 @TimetoChange has some good media guidelines on its website! Although the categories are for fiction and news/documentaries, the principles can still apply (e.g. does this meme promote negative and false stereotypes like violent characteristics, etc.?) #HealthXPh
Helen Madamba @helenvmadamba
@jimlopez875 Thanks for moderating a different kind of tweetchat tonight, @jimlopez875 see everyone on the 27th. Have a solemn holy week! #healthxph Good night!
