Q1. How would you define a successful practice placement? - one where you get lots of opportunities to see, do and ask questions; where you can improve without being told 'you're wrong' even if you make mistakes. ~#OTalk
Orla @orlatheot
@Lucygordon83 Seeing the OT process carried out in that setting and then collaborating with your educator to start leading sections of it. #OTalk

Rachel Payne @RachieRuu
@Lucygordon83 One where I'm supported to put theory into practice, developing and demonstrating skills at my own pace, and being able to develop the confidence to work as an OT. Oh, and good marks are always helpful! #OTalk

@BethanyChitty @OTalk_ Absolutely. I did so much reflecting travelling out to see people in the car with my educator. #OTalk

#Otalk, also learning about and from professionals whilst on placement and how their roles interact with OT
sian burgess @mrsmcinburtott
@BethanyChitty Supervision in all guises is really important #OTalk

RT @HelenArnfieldOT:
Elizabeth @ElizabethJH85
#Otalk also learning from and about other professional's whilst on placement to understand their interaction with OT and the service users
#OTalk @OTalk_
Lots of people tonight making the important point that learning is a two-way street on placement - educators can learn from students just as much as vice-versa! #OTalk https://t.co/yNWLnxPGFs
sian burgess @mrsmcinburtott
@kerri_schOT @Lucygordon83 Support seems to be mentioned in a lot of comments - where would we all be without it :) #OTalk
deb_OT @dmay_ot
@BethanyChitty @OTalk_ I think my best learning was the educator who pushed me and challenged me in front of patients. I trusted her and I knew she had my back so I could take risks. Some aid off, some could have been better which provided lots of learning #OTalk

@BethanyChitty @Jeni_woods_OT @Lucygordon83 @OTalk_ We encourage it from our students but they don’t always find it easy to question their educators #OTalk

@Lucygordon83 @OTalk_ Supervision sessions should be planned and treated as important opportunities to reflect and set clear goals for each week. Also, the atmosphere should be no question is too complex or too stupid. #OTalk

Esther Brimacombe @escb75
@Lucygordon83 @OTalk_ Be clear on expectations of the placement from student perspective and from supervisor. Sometimes students can be hard on themselves and set unrealistic goals. Communication is key. #OTalk
sian burgess @mrsmcinburtott
@escb75 @Lucygordon83 @OTalk_ I think this is true. Students often forget how much experience an educator has and they can’t expect to replicate that on a placement #OTalk

It looks like nearly everyone's identifying communication, honesty and openness as vital factors in a good placement - is it maybe difficult to be as honest/open as possible as a student when you're worried about doing well? #OTalk https://t.co/pC3QV0qLO2

@Lucygordon83 I like this question - I think educators underestimate the skills students can bring - literature searching/evidence base/presentations/producing information posters etc #OTalk
Elizabeth @ElizabethJH85
@mrsmcinburtott @EllenChisman #OTalk on my final placement, my educator understood I might not know things about that setting. However, with areas I didn't know, I carried out some extra research, reading, shadowing others to fill the gap in my knowledge

@dmay_ot @otalk I Think If You Look At The Overall Skills Needed To Qualify As An Occupational Therapist, The Opportunities For These Can Be Found In All Settings I Believe And That’s When The Educator Comes In To Identity Those Opportunities As It May Not Be Clear To You. #OTalk

@Lucygordon83 I believe students bring a fresh insight into a service. They do not necessarily have an attachment to the place of work so they could generate new ideas about service improvements and potential ways to utilise space/resources that might not have been thought about 💡#OTalk

@beckycooper___ very good! It is important for clinical instructors to quiz their students of the skills they should know. #otalk

RT @RachieRuu: I also think to be successful it's important to not compare placements? I initially thought I wasn't doing so well on my current placement, based on my thoughts from my first, when in reality the two are totally different, and so can't be compared #otalk
