really excited about this topic as I myself am a rotational occupational therapist & have been since qualifying. I’ve worked in 3 different clinical areas so far 👍🏼... so let’s get on with tonight’s #otalk 💚🤩

#OTalk HI! I'm a first year student, so interested in finding out more about rotational roles. Planning ahead!
Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT

#OTalk @OTalk_
@natasharoach242 Yes! Exciting times! #OTalk

@kerri_schOT #OTalk That was my thought once I left uni, I had completed 4 placements 2 in a day centre, 1 hospital & @ a charity #kidscompany role emerging. So my experience of OT was limited, so I thought hospital. I ended up working in social services. The hardest learning curve ever!
Lucy gordon @Lucygordon83

@kerri_schOT #otalk ......but the variety is immense. It’s like a rotational post but you rotate with each service user.
Minh Tran @otramblings
@kerri_schOT My first role was an OT for a private company in Australia. Luckily for me, it provided a service to a private hospital. Instead of covering specific wards, I covered referrals which was anything and everything from range of clinical specialties to community rehab visits #otalk
deb_OT @dmay_ot
I 'm looking to build a wide range of core skills; I've had fab placements but in specialisms so I want DGH core experience. A rotation I hope will deliver that. #otalk

Louise @Louisepenny87
@OTalk_ @OTontheTracks Hi there, 10 years ago I was 3 months in to the first rotational job of my career. I did a second rotational job as a band 7 until a couple of years ago, which was awesome! #otalk

Natasha Roach @natasharoach242
@OTalk_ #OTalk I am planning on a rotational post, preferably mixed ! As I want to feel competent in both areas as I feel individuals experience both physical & mental health barriers often simultaneously #nohealthwithoutmentalhealth
Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT
@dmay_ot yes I think rotations can help you develop a wide range of skills #otalk

Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT

@nhumilton @kerri_schOT Hi :), I was trained in Australia #otalk
Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT
@Lucygordon83 this is exactly why I went for a rotational post! you experience so much this way #otalk
Lucy gordon @Lucygordon83
@kerri_schOT I am on a fantastic rotation with the @WorcsHealthCare Trust. It is a mixed rotation including physical rehab, stroke rehab, paediatrics, CAHMs, inpatient mental health wards & community roles with adults and older adults! #OTalk
ᏕᏂᏋᏒLᎩᏁ 🇯🇲🇬🇧💚 @sherlynmelody

Debra Hughes @Debraj_OT
@kerri_schOT Not due to qualify till May ish. However I have just applied for rotational position. Super excited, feel i would be better suited at rotational and give me a good base for learning differnet areas #OTalk

Bethany Marshall @BethjmOT
@kerri_schOT I’m in my final year, so it won’t be long before I start looking for jobs. Really keen to look at a rotational post to gain a range of skills within the acute setting ☺️ #OTalk
Amie Jayne @Amie_OT
@natasharoach242 @OTalk_ I love it and even though it's not a rotational post I run groups, specialise in doing sessions teaching iPad and alexa technology to support independence at home and do home assessments and do a good mix of some generic work too. #otalk
Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT
@nhumilton @otramblings yes i went to coventry university #otalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTR/L @BillWongOT
@kerri_schOT I never did it... but I know some people bounce around different settings. The collection of experiences is great if you are still looking for a permanent setting to call home. A side benefit is that you can be quite versatile in academia if you choose to teach. #otalk
Louise @Louisepenny87
@kerri_schOT Variety of caseload is great, but I have also found working on different teams to be very eye opening. I’ve learnt so much by working with so many different colleagues #OTalk
Kelly M @OTontheTracks
@kerri_schOT Range of experiences and skills Good way to develop core transferable skills Keeps you in the mindset of developing and learning more widely about profession and you as practitioner. #OTalk
Margaret Spencer @margaretOT360
If you like stability not really. It usually takes a month to settle in 4 months doing the job and a month to wind everything down. Move and repeat # #otalk
Natasha Roach @natasharoach242
@kerri_schOT The support from supervisors and the organisation through clear career development pathways and preceptorship schemes #OTalk
Amie Jayne @Amie_OT
@kerri_schOT From what I've heard a rotation can be really helpful in cementing the core OT skills and knowledge #otalk
Louise @Louisepenny87
@AideenKa @kerri_schOT Rotating definitely builds resilience, but that is no bad think in healthcare #OTalk
Carolina Cordero 🌈 @colourful_ot
@AideenKa @kerri_schOT I'm in the same situation - I've found it takes me a while to start feeling comfortable on placements so maybe it wouldn't suit me to be changing roles too often, but at the same time I feel like it would help me to build the skill of being more flexible/adaptable #OTalk
Kerri Schubert @kerri_schOT
@AideenKa great point!! we’ll be discussing the downsides to a rotation at some point in tonight’s chat! #otalk

@sherlynmelody @kerri_schOT This is my thinking. I am due to qualify in July and have had a mixture of placement experiences but can't decide where to specialise. I feel a rotation will give a mixture of learning opportunities and a good grounding! #OTalk

@kerri_schOT There aren’t any rotational OT posts where I work. I think this is partly to do with logistical issues i.e. ensuring that there aren’t any gaps in service provision if we are unable to recruit to all the posts in a rotation. #OTalk
Minh Tran @otramblings
Q5: I would really advise to come talk to us already working in the field :). We don’t bite! Or get in contact with RCOT and come along to one of the regional meetings closest to you. Usually a good mixture of diverse OT brains you could pick #OTalk

@AideenKa @kerri_schOT So much advice....#OTalk 1) you are rotational and band 5 for a reason. Ask questions, so many questions! 2) Use supervision to learn about your personal skills not just your OT skills 3) Even if you hate your team or hate your rotation, use that to shape your future self

@OTalk_ I think it would be good if there was more support for 'the next step' following a rotational post. I think you can become 'stuck' and i experience other band 5s already losing their passion for the profession only 2yrs in and that's sad #OTalk

@kerri_schOT In my band 5 rotation I did 4 rotations, asked to stay for longer in the 4th and then got a band 6 role there. In my band 7 rotation I did 3 rotations then applied for the static job in that team so that I could be settled when I started my MSc #OTalk
