Right over to @OTthoughts from @RCOT_PLD for tonight’s questions! #otalk
Maureen Shiells @mmshiells
@BevTW @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach Is that because you feel that meds are not your 'thang' #OTalk ?

Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot
@OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach I think it depends on your setting you work with. A common issue in our setting is when patient has pain pill for the day. Next on the list will be BP medications. #otalk

Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot

@otalk_@ot_rach #otalk Hi!
Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot
@HolleighLouise @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach One example will be when during our MH placements or jobs. We have to learn what medications our patients are taking. #otalk
Maureen Shiells @mmshiells

@BillWongOT @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach *Drug of the week sessions, where one person from the team each week would research and introduce a drug and talk about it during MDT meetings throughout the week. I love this idea #OTALK
Hayley Goodwin @otthoughts
@HolleighLouise @BillWongOT @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach That's a great idea AHP learning about medication in practice. I started to do this and learnt about possible side effects as they can have an impact on function #otalk

@OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach In my setting we do have a medication policy in place and I do ask questions and I do research about if I feel the medication will impact the function of my clients #OTalk
RCOT_PLD @rcot_pld
@OTthoughts @BevTW @OT_rach #otalk do you think that others are glazing over also so the decisioni is not fully MDT based? I find im more confident on familiar medications to me
Holleigh Bryan @holleighlouise
@ChloeVincett @BillWongOT @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach Its also a fantastic way to learn from each other too #OTALK
Phil King @philking53
@OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach I don't feel that I have a great understanding of medication as yet but I feel I can (and often do) as question re; medication at MDT meetings mainly to spark discussion about medication #OTalk
Moira Scanlon @moira_scanlon
@OTthoughts @MMShiells @BevTW @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach Yes because often you are trying to do an intervention at the very time medication is being changed- especially if it relates to behaviour that challenges #otalk
grainne carley @gra_carley
I have learnt to pay attention to meds & especially note if there is changing happening or talk of change as it indicates a lot in terms of colleagues thinking on mental health progress/not #otalk
Hayley Goodwin @otthoughts
@AnaPire77988177 @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach We should acknowledge that some medications might have an impact on function and doing everyday activities #OTalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot

Holleigh Bryan @holleighlouise
@OTthoughts @BillWongOT @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach Learning about side effects is really important because it can affect our clinical reasoning. Also useful to know how long side effects are likely to last and what are seen as acceptable side effects and what indicates a need for medication change, antidepressants espec. #OTALK
Stella Plisner @stellawellawoo
@AnaPire77988177 @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach And that could potentially impact on assessment results #Otalk

@BillWongOT @HolleighLouise @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach Great point Bill because you need to develop relationship with colleagues which is hard when always changing #OTalk
Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot
@AWebster67 @Bsidebaby_ @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach In my setting- that can be a dilemma. You want an active patient with frequent behavior outbursts, or an inactive patient who is sitting on a Geri chair or tilt n space wheelchair most of the day? #otalk

Bill Wong, OTD, OTRL @billwongot

Laura Woods @bsidebaby_
@AWebster67 @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach #otalk yes definitely, wake people up to give them meds to keep them "calm" result is lack of ability to engage and they then get labelled as "difficult" "not interested" etc etc
Bethany Marshall @bethjmot
@OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach As a student I don't feel that confident about medication, however on my first placement i was interested and would ask my educator or other members of the MDT about types of medication, especially if they impacted on the client being able to take part in assessments #OTalk

@OTalk_ I will continue to question the use of medication in a person's life, just like I expect people to question me on my decision making process, but, I also need to ease up on my dislike of medication and understand the benefits they may bring! #OTalk
Emma Robinson @emmaot2b
@HolleighLouise @BillWongOT @OTthoughts @RCOT_PLD @OT_rach This is a great idea! There’s such limited time during training to cover medication, and I found it difficult on practice placements to get my head around meds & their side effects at times #Otalk
