@TruthPathing A1 Honesty is paramount to the relationship with self or others. If you have sought out help, but are not honest about your journey - how else can others assist you? #ptsdchat

@TruthPathing A2 These days I am quite comfortable sharing my story with others. Early on this was not the case because of that stigma stuff. However, I am fully committed as an MH advocate to walk with others on their journey towards peace. #ptsdchat

RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing A1 Honesty is paramount to the relationship with self or others. If you have sought out help, but are not honest about your journey - how else can others assist you? #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
RT @brencomacchio: @TruthPathing Yes; and at the same time, one has to be kind and understanding. Reflecting on ones own healing, it serves no purpose in being judgmental and berating oneself. When dealing with others, one can be honest without criticizing or blaming. #PTSDchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing
RT @brencomacchio: @TruthPathing I have never felt the need to explain myself to others (acquaintances or strangers). I only tell family/friends only what I feel comfortable with sharing at the time. #PTSDchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@brencomacchio @TruthPathing Oh Bren, self-judgment was my own best enemy for a long, long, time. The negative self-talk enhanced this experience. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@brencomacchio Sounds like you have good control of that. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing My prayers are with you. My nephew lives somewhere in the Nashville area. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff And because you have shared your story and been honest, you can better help others. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@brencomacchio A lot of people seem not to feel this way. What would you tell them to try to feel in control to some degree and to feel understood? #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
RT @brencomacchio: @TruthPathing Being honest wasn't as difficult as accepting the truth without self-judgment. There was a lot of self-judgment that I had to get past. #PTSDchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing A3 In my second round of therapy I tried so hard to control how each session would unfold. If felt this self-imposed pressure to always give the right answers. Eventually I realized that I did not always have to do the right thing, just a thing. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@brencomacchio What was your first step in self-acceptance? #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
RT @holisticff: @brencomacchio @TruthPathing Oh Bren, self-judgment was my own best enemy for a long, long, time. The negative self-talk enhanced this experience. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff @brencomacchio How would you tell someone else to turn that around? #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing This is the only way I know how. It isn't that I do not have moments, I can better recognize them and redirect how I deal with each situation #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@Willow_B_Well Recognizing toxic relationships can be the start of getting distance, and starting to heal. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing @brencomacchio For me, negative self-talk is rooted in the need to be perfect at everything. I would tell someone else, that no matter what is believed, we are imperfect beings living in an imperfect world Life is a process that needs nurturing, not chastisement. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@tanya_dixon That is not easy. Others may or may not understand later on. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet
A1x) Honesty is sometimes the right tool and can be powerful when used the right way - like to learn more deeply about ourselves. It's also easily abused, often as a pretext to cause pain. #PTSDChat

The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet
A2a) There's not much privacy in my own head. Outside of there, I may not have a lot of control over whether something is secret or not. At least not eventually. A2b) It's usually a matter of my self-disclosure being what no one asked for. #PTSDChat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@tanya_dixon Good plan! There are times and places for sharing things. #ptsdchat
Bren Comacchio @brencomacchio
@holisticff @TruthPathing Yes. The self-talk was self-sabotage. Once we learn our unconscious mind is always listening to what we say about ourselves, we begin to realize how it actually impacts us. #PTSDchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet
A3a) Restated: Have I learned to communicate what I want? I generally have to hammer a thought into shape before another person can work with it. A3b) I adore talking about myself. It's usually others who struggle with it. #PTSDChat

@holisticff Thanks! Needed! #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing A4 It was very difficult to be honest or to admit I needed help processing the traumas I experienced in this lifetime. I did not want to view myself as defective. It took a great deal of courage to sit in front of a mirror (therapist) and work through the issues #ptsdchat

@brencomacchio @TruthPathing Many times I find myself saying absurd things, and will often laugh (or as my wife says: have a party in my own head). #ptsdchat

@bannedtweet Do you like the answers you give yourself? :) #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff Important realization. There are no “right” answers, just individual ones! #ptsdchat

Bren Comacchio @brencomacchio
@TruthPathing @holisticff The best example I can give people is this: When someone says to you "You look tired, are you feeling OK" most people immediately feel tired and run down even if they weren't feeling that way before I asked. That's how fast our negative self-talk/judgment affects us #PTSDchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@tanya_dixon @TruthPathing Always remain true my sister- it is your life to live, not others. #ptsdchat

A4a) Like on the Struggle Meter®? I don't know. Hard I guess. A4b) Red hot self-loathing burned away the gland that generates social guilt. After that there wasn't social shame attached to bad behavior. I could examine internal crap w/o the external crap interfering. #PTSDChat

@TruthPathing A5 I would say that honest with oneself is the only way to work through the issues- step by step, and day by day. If you lie to yourself, then you will do so with others. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@bannedtweet That is so true. #ptsdchat it takes time and practice to deal honestly with ourselves.

@bannedtweet #PTSDchat Interesting. So often in PTSD, not talking seems to be what happens. But that can change quite a bit with self-discovery.

@bannedtweet @holisticff “Very both” - true and helpful. After we are exhausted from fighting whatever we are fighting, honesty is what is left. Honesty well-played is some of the best clarity for self & others you’ll ever see. #ptsdchat

@TruthPathing It's communication that trips us up. Talking about complicated stuff is complicated. It takes a while for us to shake loose all the pieces. Then we have to turn those into something that makes sense and is still true to the original. #PTSDchat
