The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @TruthPathing What is this? Some kind of a joke? These are people's feeling's we're talking about here. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing Hi Sue, doing well. Our pup's tests came back normal, and he is making a turn around. The doctor is calling it gastroenteritis. #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet Good evening! #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing Hi Sue, doing well. Our pup's tests came back normal, and he is making a turn around. The doctor is calling it gastroenteritis. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff So glad to hear this, Tim! #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @holisticff @TruthPathing Oh dang. My cat had herpes. Yours sounds more impressive. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A1 Humor adds levity to a conversation, and make others feel good. This is not always the case. In the fire and emergency services it is often used to cope with traumatic exposure. #ptsdchat https://t.co/i86w8C9x7a
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @bannedtweet @TruthPathing He was dealing with a bout of pancreatitis - very nauseated and in pain. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing Humor is the same in that its intention is to lighten the mood and ease tension. It is as different as each who uses it. It is also very different in different groups. #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff Emergency Services, etc., humor is not for delicate ears. Some of it, anyway! #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A1 At the firehouse we pulled a lot of pranks, and did get yucks out of it. The dark humor never did anything to help me cope with what I was exposed to. For some it is their way. However, actions speak louder than words. Saying one is okay is not the same as being #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing #PTSDchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing #PTSDchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing You are correct about that. The kitchen table offered interesting life experiences and points of view. I have many fond memories. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A2a) What, like a scale? With puns at one end and abuse humor at the other? A2b) It's about the content than the participants. If there's too much uncertainty about the topic then the joke has nowhere to land. #PTSDChat

The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A1a) Humor takes us out of our moment, often involuntarily. A1b) Many things that were funny in the 1970s no longer are. A1c) Okay. #PTSDChat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff I’ve heard this humor called rude & uncaring. What is not considered is the constant re-exposure to trauma on the job. If people would consider that, judgment would hopefully be less harsh. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet Speaking of Humor in Trauma #PTSDChat https://t.co/i8BIQhZYmN
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A2 This gets down to being part of a culture that understands the humor used in a specific group dynamic #ptsdchat This humor may not be understood by the outside world, and hence not used.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing You are correct about that. The kitchen table offered interesting life experiences and points of view. I have many fond memories. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff It seemed you made an effort to leave that humor at work! #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @bannedtweet: A2a) What, like a scale? With puns at one end and abuse humor at the other? A2b) It's about the content than the participants. If there's too much uncertainty about the topic then the joke has nowhere to land. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A3 I have seen where humor hurts others, and if it backfires, it is best to back down. The audience must be considered before using humor in any conversation. If it offended another - apologize #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet That scale is a version of it. The more intense the situation, sometimes the more intense the humor. 2. True if topic is uncertain. Often there is a group-related theme going, sometimes a mystery to outsiders. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @TruthPathing @holisticff It might be the physicality of the humor. The challenge w/ physical humor is it disrupts personal boundaries. People need somewhere to feel safe when they're being challenged. If you're disrupting physical & psychological, where's left to feel safe? #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing I cannot repeat some of the dark humor I have heard, out of reverence to the sick, injured, or deceased. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @bannedtweet: A1a) Humor takes us out of our moment, often involuntarily. A1b) Many things that were funny in the 1970s no longer are. A1c) Okay. #PTSDChat

Tim Grutzius @holisticff @bannedtweet @TruthPathing Very well said. Humor can definitely disrupt boundaries. Often times when someone uses humor as a way to lash out against another, it is really about themselves. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet @holisticff Safety is definitely important. You never know what someone is going through that you can’t see & know nothing about. Humor can feel like an attack. Handled otherwise, it can bring comfort. Underlying intention is important. #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff ...not used, understood or accepted. The worst thing when that happens is the misunderstanding and dislike it can create. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing @bannedtweet Like @bannedtweet said, things said or used as humor in past decades, may not be appropriate for today. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing A3 I have seen where humor hurts others, and if it backfires, it is best to back down. The audience must be considered before using humor in any conversation. If it offended another - apologize #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff Exactly. #ptsdchat We do have to be careful and make adjustments when needed. Not name calling or chastising when your humor doesn’t “go over” is part of that.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing @bannedtweet Like @bannedtweet said, things said or used as humor in past decades, may not be appropriate for today. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff @bannedtweet True. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @bannedtweet @TruthPathing Very well said. Humor can definitely disrupt boundaries. Often times when someone uses humor as a way to lash out against another, it is really about themselves. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A3a) Humor is all about sensitivity. Small shocks pass immediately & people can reflect. A3b) If someone needs more than a moment to recover then it was too much. Best thing I could do would be to intercept their backlash and give it somewhere to go. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A4 I use humor to add levity to a conversation. I used to get sucked into the dark humor until I realized it did not serve me well (it did nothing to erase the traumatic memories) #ptsdchat

A3b) If someone needs more than a moment to recover then it was too much. Best thing I could do would be to intercept their backlash and give it somewhere to go. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A5 I make more fun out of myself than anyone. Especially when I catch myself acting like a fool, or becoming angry at insignificant things. I will laugh hard - it settles me down. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet @bannedtweet @holisticff You both remain aware of what is going around you and adjust to help others. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @holisticff @TruthPathing A lot of humor simply became dull. There's a reason Red Skelton videos aren't topping Youtube. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing @bannedtweet You as well #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing #PTSDchat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat A1. Humor is the same based on its attempt at being a break-point for focus. Often humor is not funny. It takes discernment on anyone's part who hears humor to define its qualities.

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff Did it ever perpetuate them? #ptsdchat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat Good evening to all! This is the official "concussed" me, trying to clear the fog in order to join the chat! Believe me, you had to be there! https://t.co/S4qEj7nL78
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing A5 I make more fun out of myself than anyone. Especially when I catch myself acting like a fool, or becoming angry at insignificant things. I will laugh hard - it settles me down. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff I do the same thing. It does cure the momentary problem. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @CosmicLifeOfMe: #PTSDChat A1. Humor is the same based on its attempt at being a break-point for focus. Often humor is not funny. It takes discernment on anyone's part who hears humor to define its qualities.
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing I am sure I did, but I cannot think of anything specific right now. It just never did anything for me #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe Hey, Chris! Glad you are in this conversation! #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A4a) Unhappy moments are traps, some kind of repeating cycle. Humor interrupts cycles, can shatter a moment. It's a quick way to see the sunshine. A4b) Dull, instructive ones. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing A lot of it starts with negative self-talk. I laugh once I realize how ridiculous or absurd I am being. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe And it is subject to misinterpretation. How familiar you are with another person & they w you has a great influence on the outcome sometimes. Understanding intentions takes time. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing I am sure I did, but I cannot think of anything specific right now. It just never did anything for me #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing A lot of it starts with negative self-talk. I laugh once I realize how ridiculous or absurd I am being. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing I was more of a prank type of guy like putting someone's bed on empty pop cans. 😁#ptsdchat

The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat I often used humor to calm down accident victims, it helped to allow me to change their focus and my ability to work to prepare them for transport to a medical facility. Different situations called for different types of humorous input.

The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe @TruthPathing #PTSDchat I can't be sure, I don't know how I'm feeling, or if what I think I'm feeling is true. I'm really still confused. I hope I'm making sense right now, I feel like I'm all over the place. This is so strange
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A5a) Oh yeah. Plenty of material to mine there. A5a½) People react well if it's empowering. "Failure is Awesome!" A5b) Sure, once they get that bad crap is okay. #PTSDChat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @CosmicLifeOfMe It was all about reading the scene (along with experience) to know when and how to use humor. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe Great use of it. #ptsdchat Humor is one thing we can have with us when the need arises.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @CosmicLifeOfMe: @TruthPathing #PTSDchat I can't be sure, I don't know how I'm feeling, or if what I think I'm feeling is true. I'm really still confused. I hope I'm making sense right now, I feel like I'm all over the place. This is so strange
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat Often in services I used humor to make an obscure pint seem less confusing. I can't remember right now whether the technique was successful. Maybe in a few days I can recall it with some sense of certainty. This is so strange for me.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe You are making perfect sense. #ptsdchat It is interesting how all on chat have similar ideas used in different settings.

The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat A5. I have used this one! I try not to go in too deep because I don't think it helps to destroy my self-esteem but if I believe it will help to break the tension I might go here.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet They know your intentions, or get to know them quickly. You are in their corner. But you weren’t always, were you? #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet A6a) Nothing is one thing. Things are often terrible and wonderful at the same time. We're just used to only taking in one facet at a time. While everyone is stuck on one facet, spin the thing around. A6b) It's a way to communicate w/ people when they're turned inward. #PTSDChat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat questions that lead to humorous responses really helped me to help accident victims release their stress. I never went to the personal joke questions though, I always stayed in the open-ended range. No one wants to feel belittled in an accident paradigm.

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet “A5a1/2”? Your not making fun of my organization skills by chance, are you? Lol! #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @CosmicLifeOfMe It was all about reading the scene (along with experience) to know when and how to use humor. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe It probably worked. Very little material is suited to our attention spans. Humor clears the pallet so people can refocus. #PTSDChat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe Good point! #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @holisticff @CosmicLifeOfMe Correctly reading the scene tells the audience that they're mental state is important to you. Everyone likes validation. #PTSDChat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat Humor helped me with the "Oh no!" situation. I had no answers for my mind when it witnessed the tragedy, so I often used humor to create a wall of emotional distance. I know it worked in some of the most pressurized situations because I lived to go to #Suicide.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe I bet it worked. It quickly creates the obvious from the obscure. #ptsdchat A lot of smiles usually go with it, & the point is more easily remembered.
Tim Grutzius @holisticff @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe Yes they do. It is something that has become a lost art in our modern world. #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @holisticff: @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe Yes they do. It is something that has become a lost art in our modern world. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @holisticff @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe We need to regain that in all settings. #ptsdchat
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @TruthPathing Your question mark was in an inconvenient place for me. I moved it where I wanted it. #PTSDChat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing RT @CosmicLifeOfMe: #PTSDChat A5. I have used this one! I try not to go in too deep because I don't think it helps to destroy my self-esteem but if I believe it will help to break the tension I might go here.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe I use it a lot. It never makes me feel bad, but makes others laugh. Good for all. #ptsdchat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat Humor is helping me right now, (I think!) I'm so confused as to real and imagined because my head is in a fog. NEVER hit your head on a counter top when you accidentally fall! https://t.co/fpgvmgbAtF

Sue Wood @TruthPathing @bannedtweet True re terrible/wonderful (& unknowingly a great description of the last few days for me). We do take in one emotion at a time. And humor helps you help others. #ptsdchat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat If I have made any sense tonight, please DM me to say so, right now, I am seeing triple keyboards and I can only hope I'm actually typing words on any of them! (See, that's a little humorous, right?) I'm being serious about the triple thing. (I think!)

The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat Thank you for letting me do...whatever I've done here tonight. I know I'll be here again next week, my head has to clear up by then. Unless it already has, and I'm just in the twilight zone of my thinking.
The Happy Hunker @bannedtweet @CosmicLifeOfMe Also describes a Soma Coma so I can relate. So far you're doing fine but don't push too hard or it'll get away from you. #PTSDChat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing @CosmicLifeOfMe True. People in that feel vulnerable enough in every way already. #ptsdchat @CosmicLifeOfMe @holisticff @bannedtweet I think tonight is one of the best mental pictures of each of you “at work” that I have ever had. It brings comfort to think of others well-treated. #ptsdchat

Tim Grutzius @holisticff @TruthPathing Have a great week. #ptsdchat
The Doc as eR+T=L =Wombat @CosmicLifeOfMe #PTSDChat I loved this! I think we all have real insight into humor, and we as a society don't use it so much, and we should probably do better at it. We've got this, people, now we have to re-connect to the elements that will work to create changes.
