#PTSDchat Evening! How is everybody?
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
We are discussing Self-compassion Psrt 2 this evening. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing Doing well Sue, how are you this evening? #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
1. When you are taking care of yourself and someone else does not respect that or you, how do you handle the situation? Do you ever explain anything? #ptsdchat https://t.co/jdkt0MQ9mm

@TruthPathing A1 First and foremost, in order to heal the world, one must heal themselves first. We cannot keep being the constant giver. It is essential to have some me time, in order to rejuvenate and catch the breath. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
If I think it had a chance to help, I will explain things. Some people wouldn’t listen to anything you said, so in that situation, it’s best to do what works for you and ignore detrimental others. #ptsdchat

@holisticff Very good point! How do we get over the “guilt” of taking time for ourselves? #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing
I work best in calm and somewhat quiet situations. If I feel I will be interrupted, then it would be difficult to begin what I was doing. #ptsdchat
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing A2 Being self-compassionate means being kind to oneself in the face of adversity or challenges that present. At times, I let the negative self-talk to creep in, but then remind myself that I have come along way in my healing and I am not perfect. #ptsdchat

#PTSDchat 3. Do others ever create ways for you to add to your self-compassion or give suggestions/feedback on ur self-compassion? https://t.co/Sg8lRsk56W
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
#PTSDchat 4. Are you new to self-compassion or a “seasoned pro”? How does this affect you? https://t.co/IaYgAuE6ZL
Tim Grutzius @holisticff
@TruthPathing This is part of the human experience and not every person is going to agree with our point of view. If this were the case, then our world would be a total peace. #ptsdchat

@TruthPathing We should never feel guilty for self-care as it is an essential component to maintaining a balanced life. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
I have been lucky in learning new practices to help myself from others in the group here. Also, years ago, the only way I could begin sorting my own negative events was to gently lead my mind toward the negatives. There were many necessary false starts. #ptsdchat

Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff Very true. Some can learn to help themselves with encouragement from others. Those, then, might not be so inclined to hurt others. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff It’s another case of hurt people hurt other people. The cycle has to be broken somewhere. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
#PTSDchat I consider myself a seasoned pro in this part of things. I have been practicing self-compassion for decades. It is the only way I was able to sort things and go back into my life. The alternative was to remain frozen/still and give up any chance Of freedom.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
I had to look out for my needs because in some situations, I did not know how to ask a ? Or voice my needs. Therefore it was up to me, solely, to do for myself what I needed. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
RT @holisticff: @TruthPathing We should never feel guilty for self-care as it is an essential component to maintaining a balanced life. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff True. It still so often feels like it needs to be justified, even when it doesn’t. With busy work schedules and more work than can be completed, self-compassion/care competes for time. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff It would be helpful to have an additional discussion about valuing and actually making time for self-care/compassion in a step-by-step way. It’s a lot easier to say “do that” than it is to accomplish it, esp on regular basis. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@alisonr2004 Thank you for being here! Glad you are taking care of yourself. I am doing ok this eve. How are you? #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff Why do we feel we need to justify taking care of ourselves, when that is what keeps us healthiest and most productive? Why do we classify it in r minds as somehow “wasting time”? #ptsdchat Where did these misleading ideas come from?
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
@holisticff The pendulum is swinging back to self-care/compassion, not multi-tasking, but focusing. Seemingly, new ideas are just reprocessed old ideas coming around again. Baffling as to why changing from right to wrong/harmful is a trend. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
#PTSDchat What makes us veer away from things that work and keep us safe, healthy, calm and more productive and instead run to the latest fads? Part of it is to sell the latest product/cure all.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
When did we become so susceptible and maybe gullible and let others make our decisions, even blatantly harmful ones, for us and our families? It is up to us to make our own good decisions for what we need. We know ourselves better. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
How can we get back on the right track? Making good decisions for ourselves is a big part of self-compassion/care. We owe ourselves that. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
I have heard a lot of people lately want just enough to get by temporarily, to patch, and not to actually live. We have a right to advocate for ourselves and our best life. Why do we not think we have a right to that? Any part/excess we have can be used to help others. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
We need to define the difference between selfish and self-caring. Are we looking to see who judges us or making strong decisions/following what we decided is right for us? There is a big difference. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
There are a lot of people who make good decisions & live good lives. We can observe and learn. Often we have a chance to ask questions. When good people see u r trying to improve yourself, many r willing to help. Don’t reinvent the wheel. #ptsdchat
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
If I could wish one compound skill for everyone, it would be to b able to gather & sort info in meaningful ways & to the b able to ask ?’s to shore up what is missing #ptsdchat this is a vital skill that needs to b taught.
Sue Wood @TruthPathing
We could improve so many things just by caring about and helping each other, & valuing ourselves enough to take action to keep us well. Don’t listen to negatives. Surround yourself w positives. #ptsdchat
