@physiotalk Hello, This is Justine, tweeting from sunny Hertfordshire! Honestly... it was sunny earlier today which was a beautiful surprise! #physiotalk

Not said hi yet! I'm on the physiotalk account tonight but also interested in the discussion as am very aware of our own local recruitment issues #physiotalk
Lore Smyth @lore33x
@physiotalk The method of recruitment to the national health service in Ireland is not fit for purpose #physiotalk
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@physiotalk #physiotalk I feel staff development to prepare staff and encouraging progression is lacking in some departments.
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@physiotalk #physiotalk just my perception of having good mentoring/development sessions with supervisee, important to be competent in day to day but how can I support my junior therapist in getting b6 jobs? Which then creates movement and vacancy in the chain
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk #physiotalk do your b6 rotate across acute/community? Is that an opportunity to draw interest into community if as part of rotation?
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk There isn't enough Band 5s to cover all the rotations, and if they don't get to rotate in a certain area, they are less likely specialise in that area. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk @lynnemann13 is right in Scotland - harder to recruit outside central belt / bigger cities #physiotalk

@physiotalk It is a challenge in Hertfordshire too.... for both PT and OT. #physiotalk
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@Julessuzy1 #physiotalk I think that is what my current trust have advertised in the past to offer opportunity to develop skills into a b6 roles with structured competencies.

Ben @bennyherbsmufc
@physiotalk Physios not allowed to be physios anymore. Spending a vast amount of time sorting medication issues out which impacts on rehab time this can put people off the profession #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
RT @physiotalk: Q:
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk #physiotalk at present community services are not rotating. So I am static within community neuro stroke but plans to rotate between stroke/neuro for opportunity to develop speciality. Proposed 12/18 month rotation but nothing set yet
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@hannahmbarbour @physiotalk Similar problem in Hertfordshire. It's so expensive, and the supplementary amount (can't remember the technical term for it) is so little. It's less than £2000 a year! #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
RT @physiotalk: Q:
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk We have just moved to recruit to a static rather than rotational post (because of recruitment issues) Thinking to attract those looking for a 'shift across' rather than a 'step up' #physiotalk
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@physiotalk #physiotalk I think when I was newly qualified I wanted rotations to get an idea of what areas I was to develop skills. Now I am would only apply for a rotation if it is neuro rotation as I found the area which I enjoy.

Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@PhysioCommunity @lynnemann13 @hannahmbarbour @KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk #physiotalk I am still relatively new to community (Under two years) but I get the impression that community managers are more flexible with return to work post maternity. But just from observation. So I feel community has positives (i.e. no oncalls)
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk I am beginning to think from the chat tonights each post needs its own unique selling point linked to area / speciality / geography! #physiotalk

A really interesting tweetchat going on over on @physiotalk about recruitment… something lots of Scottish members have told us is a key issue at the moment. Would love to hear your thoughts! #physiotalk 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿📣
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@JanetThomas47 @KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk I'm playing catch up, but was just thinking that @JanetThomas47 it would appear that the general shortage of staff is resulting in people maybe being more specific about jobs they apply for, rather that just going for example for a promoted post because it comes up #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@JanetThomas47 @KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk Yes...very little upward movement to be had through banding - jobs feel like they'll be down banded at every oppertunity!! #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk @PhysioCommunity @lynnemann13 @hannahmbarbour Indeed. Community is not the first choice for many physiotherapists, and I think it has a lot to do with perceptions. #physiotalk

RT @KirstyCochrane4:
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@PhysioCommunity @physiotalk Having students on placement is always a great way to attract new grads / band 5 staff. It works as a win - win as we need more physios - so we have to have more student placements! #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk Social media - twitter - especially @JanetThomas47 👍😉. Our comms team is pretty innovative as well actually (not specifically to physio, but in general) #physiotalk @nhsfife
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@JanetThomas47 @PhysioCommunity @physiotalk #physiotalk great solution but then how do we convince some physios to be proactive and enjoy having students to sell the idea of them coming back? Clinical placement definitely play a big part if a student ever wants to come back I think.
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk How about recruitment of overseas trained physiotherapists? What are people's experiences? #physiotalk

@SukWong9 @JanetThomas47 @PhysioCommunity @physiotalk Indeed! One of the challenges has been students having terrible experiences during placements, especially those from BAME backgrounds. #physiotalk

@physiotalk #physiotalk Lack of understanding of the role`#physiotherapy and no one seems to be aware what physio exactly does unless you have ever been out of #somaliland Biggest issue in Somaliland
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk As an overseas qualified physiotherapist, I struggled for very long to get a physiotherapy job because I did not have NHS experience. The private sector wanted 5 years UK experience. Is it possible that we have qualified physiotherapists going through this? #physiotalk
Suk Wong (she/her) @SukWong9
@physiotalk Enjoyed my first #physiotalk . Thank you everyone! Will definitely join in for more when I can!

@KirstyCochrane4 @physiotalk Thanks @KirstyCochrane4 for this feedback. I had a chat with a colleague today and this was mentioned. Definitely, lots more work needed on supporting #InternationalAHPs through the applications. #physiotalk

@BhjRespiratory @physiotalk The absence of a visa is a massive one. Many recruitment managers, once they notice the need for sponsorship, that's the end. However, some organisations are willing to sponsor overseas professionals to occupy the posts. The managers need to boldly state their case #physiotalk
