@physiotalk im joining in from my couch. eating an orange & trying not to get the comp keys sticky. #somultitalented #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk Evening! Aideen from London #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Let’s get started with the first question: as physios & physio services who are our stakeholders? #physiotalk
Sibyl Edward @pasl_pt
@physiotalk Joining in from sunny St. Lucia in the Caribbean. Might lurk a bit. #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@hipsterlife85 @physiotalk Couch is a sensible choice of seat for a #Physiotalk
elizabethjenn @elizabethjenn

physiotalk @physiotalk
Here’s a quick definition of stakeholders to help you think about the 1st question #physiotalk https://t.co/icsLHJYOpx

RT @elizabethjenn: @physiotalk #physiotalk commissioners, public, clinicians, educators,
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@pasl_pt @physiotalk Lurk away but if you want to join in the conversation don't forget the hashtag #Physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@KBNeuroinfo In terms of our local communities? #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk I think physios themselves are an often forgotten stakeholder #physiotalk
M-J Sharp @hipsterlife85
@spiteri_anna @physiotalk it certainly is. Orange is not a sensible choice tho ha! #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk Yes the local communities we work in and support with our services, includes patients, families, carers, volunteers as well as other health profs and 3rd sector #physiotalk
M-J Sharp @hipsterlife85
@physiotalk Patients also a pretty important stakeholder.. or maybe the most important? #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@hipsterlife85 Yes - people who receive it, top of the list! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
RT @AideenPhysio: @physiotalk I think physios themselves are an often forgotten stakeholder #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Ok, next question - do you know what your stakeholders think of your service? How do you currently assess this? #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk in no particular order... NICE, CCGs, NHS England, government, general public, patients, physiotherapists, other HCPs, students, educators, researchers, other professionals internationally, WHO, managers, HCPC, CSP, economists #physiotalk
elizabethjenn @elizabethjenn
@physiotalk #physiotalk our professional bodies eg CSP
Sam Haworth-Booth @SamHBooth

Sam Haworth-Booth @SamHBooth
@RobYeldham @KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk Do you have any ideas why? #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk Wondering if you have to be a ‘service user’ to be able to answer this? #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk I think at times we are really poor at shouting about how great our services are! We may at times not be sat at the right tables to show how great our services are. Think we sometimes struggle to produce good quality data to show our effectiveness #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@RobYeldham press is a very good point! One of the high influence but arguably low interest stakeholders (depending on how sensational the topic) #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@KBNeuroinfo Absolutely, service users will have a view and different ways to access this, but also local GPs, commissioners etc #physiotalk

Sam Haworth-Booth @SamHBooth
@RobYeldham @KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk Ah, I did wonder. Thank you #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk We want to trial therapy specific feedback for our CDU in A&E it’s on the #ToDoList another issue in creating this evidence, where does the time come from when you constantly feel like you’re firefighting #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Ok, next question - how could you find out more about what patients and other stakeholders think of your service? What methods could you use? #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Answered this on a thread to the previous question but gathering both qualitative and quantitative data, then presenting and getting feedback, doing something unique like putting on a grand round and inviting stakeholders to see... #physiotalk
Sibyl Edward @pasl_pt
@physiotalk Q.3. Maybe info from a patient survey. Those can be useful. #physiotalk,
Rob Yeldham @RobYeldham
Dipping out now but will read the transcript tomorrow and respond to any queries for @thecsp #physiotalk
Sam Haworth-Booth @SamHBooth
@physiotalk Ask respectfully & openly. Use a variety of methods & follow up on any feedback / suggestions you have - enev it's to feedback why you can't do it! People are more likely to respond if they feels it's for something #nottokenism #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@IanTyrrell5 @physiotalk Patient stories provide powerful narrative #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Having evidence to know what people experience of and think about our services is key to taking effective action to improve both our services and perceptions #physiotalk

RT @KBNeuroinfo: @IanTyrrell5 @physiotalk Patient stories provide powerful narrative #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk I recently started learning about user experience design and have found that you can learn much more useful insights from a couple of longer interviews than multiple superficial questionnaires - people often give automatic responses that don't provide much insight #physiotalk

Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Like these ideas, especially in long term conditions, frailty, rehab etc. Don’t think we pay enough attention to perceptions of what we do, I’m so bad for it as I generally only see people once or twice when in ed, but are we scared of patients perceptions? #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk Agree so much but are we scared of the feedback so we don’t ask? #physiotalk

Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@KBNeuroinfo @IanTyrrell5 @physiotalk Yes so true and everyone loves a patient story especially our Trust boards #Physiotalk
HelenBaxter @Helbax
#physiotalk yes experience based design is just that - understanding experience to design better services - from patient carer and staff (both stakeholders) perspective #gaininginsights #understandingexperience
Sam Haworth-Booth @SamHBooth
@IanTyrrell5 @KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk I think it's probably the way of systematising some of the processes like data inputting and the time to think through and plan how to respond #physiotalk
M-J Sharp @hipsterlife85
@physiotalk On student placements I've tried to allow pts to give feedback anonymously e.g. give them feedback form to take away with them/give in to the front desk- then they don't feel like they have to be polite! #physiotalk

Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Abstracts, presentations, promotion on social media, communications team in hospital settings. Being open, honest, engaging, learning from mistakes and promoting a growth mindset. #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk Very true and sometimes the service providers don't have any influence on the questions that are asked. More than often a tick box exercise so the feed back ticks a box but feels meaningless. I like this idea @AideenPhysio #Physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk Promotion -Being proud of what we do, good PR,national campaigns, demonstrate our value #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@spiteri_anna @physiotalk 'The 5 whys' is a useful tool - very quickly gets to a deeper level of insight #physiotalk
C Harris @CHarrisPhysio
@physiotalk Utilising positive patient stories, sharing the breadth of areas where physio can (and does) make a positive difference to people. Also, spreading the idea that physio is not just about doing exercises #physiotalk
elizabethjenn @elizabethjenn
@physiotalk #physiotalk shout about what we do! Share the changes we make , innovations and data as much as we can.
physiotalk @physiotalk
Sometimes the challenge is triangulating all the information that is coming in and feeding it back to the service providers in a meaningful way. #physiotalk

KB @KBNeuroinfo
@IanTyrrell5 @physiotalk Demonstrating the fabulous diversity of our profession #physiotalk
M-J Sharp @hipsterlife85
@spiteri_anna @AideenPhysio @physiotalk That's rlly interesting as helps to hone down Qs to what matters most & what pts want to say. I know the feeling of having to fill out an evaluation form w irrelevant Qs at the end of some sort of event when I just wanna get home to my chicken dinner #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk I would love it to be that we facilitate and expediate discharge from the emergency department understanding people’s complex health and social care needs and are empathetic to all no matter what the issue. And that Physiotherapist in an ED is a key tool. #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@CHarrisPhysio @physiotalk Or not about the Physio doing the exercises with the patient. Patient participation. We want to skill up our service users to make lifestyle choices #physiotalk

KB @KBNeuroinfo
@hipsterlife85 @spiteri_anna @AideenPhysio @physiotalk How can we better embrace tech for our feedback? Available to reply whenever it fits in patients’ daily lives.. #physiotalk

KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk A worthwhile experience where they felt listened to, valued and equal. A positive interaction which made a difference #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk If you had of asked me 18 months ago I wouldn’t have but can see the benefit from a number of different books. All part of the journey and if you don’t admit you make mistakes it’s more dangerous as you probably don’t believe you have made any! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Ok, last few minutes - what’s tonight’s chat helped you to think about or take away with you? #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk @AideenPhysio That is a forward thinking school! And a teacher obviously has read #BlackBoxThinking #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
Made me reflect yet again on the positive impact of Physiotherapists for our service users from cradle to grave and how we have to promote our profession. The privilege it is to be a Chartered Physiotherapist @thecsp #Physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk That we need to beat the “we are great and have evidence we are effective” drum louder and louder. If not invited to share results, invite yourself! Break down doors and promote what we do! As I love every day as a physio (May be a slight exaggeration due to fatigue) #physiotalk
C Harris @CHarrisPhysio
@physiotalk A group of professionals, who take the time to get to know individuals and what is important to them, then help them achieve their personal goals #physiotalk
Sibyl Edward @pasl_pt
@physiotalk Reaffirm our important position in the team/chain but we need to use every means to keep visible #physiotalk
