![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] For once this is a chat I cant really contribute to. I'm not sure of the last time I used anything that could be called a medical device - but I'll wait to be corrected if people start a list! #physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] See - I knew I might use a medical device.... Who knew a walking aid might be classed that way... #physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] OK OK I use loads then.... Even the odd BP machine etc. #physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] I'm not joining in any conversations about what I might have learnt as a student... Probably all now condemned! #physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] To theories or practical? In Uni or on placement? Difficult for most HEI's to have the most up to date equipment I would have thought #physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] Is it just as important to have he confidence to say that you DON'T know how to use the device? #physiotalk |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk professional responsibility and safety for staff as well as patients . |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] Good question! I was thinking of a scenario when you had been trained but then not needed to use the device. How to maintain competency? Better to say that you don't feel competent than try and be unsafe?#physiotalk |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] A difference between technical competence and clinical competence #physiotalk |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk So difficult to do at times . Time is a factor and confidence and competence are two very different things . Also ,back to first question , what is a medical device ? |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk definitely . I have seen this with some staff in the past . Overly confident is / can be a dangerous thing . |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk clinical reasoning is so important as to evaluate the requirement for any medical device . Following other staff or "copying " others can be unsafe . Recently identified this issue with new junior, "following " a colleague use of a device . |
![]() | Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47 [REDACTED USER] I've just had a look and a quick search of TURAS came up with a blank #physiotalk |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk one of the problems for rotational staff is that the equipment they become confident and competent in one clinical area they not not have to use at all in another clinical area . So lose their competence and /or confidence . |
![]() | Pam Watkins💙 @PWtherapist [REDACTED USER] #physiotalk each rotation staff have to have competencies for respiratory on call completed . This may or may not include devices depending on patients in hospital at the time . Regular on call sessions held , peer reviews Learning from reflective practice. |
