physiotalk @physiotalk
Lets get going with the first question of the night #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q1 How does your workplace support CPD and has this changed in the last year? #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk Hiya from Glasgow #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
There is recognition from the HCPC that things will be different this year but they do say... Individuals should comply with their CPD obligations, where time allows and if it is possible to do so #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@katysmith8319 Welcome #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk #physiotalk we are pretty consistent with an IST programme, that we are able to shape during team discussion. Some gaps with CV19 influence last year, but an added bonus of training opportunities with staff redeployed to us sharing their expertise!
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #physiotalk we use our objectives to support any of our CPD. I’ve linked a lot of mine to help me progress. Asked to go on conferences plus the support and guidance from fellow colleagues along the way. As a support worker it’s good to see what else is out there.
physiotalk @physiotalk

@physiotalk Level 3 diploma in physio support I was able to go to VPUk which was a great experience Unchanged at my work generally but monthly cpd is more Virtual presently #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk #physiotalk this is reassuring!
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk My NHS Trust has unfortunately had to cancel all mandatory training for several weeks this winter due to high demand..so we're having to be creative (more than usual!) this year #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@chris_richards2 And did you get financial support to go to vPUK? Just wondering if easier to get funding for a cheaper conference with no travel or accommodation? #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@susancotton18 And they cancelled the planned audit for last year as well. But have now restarted planned audits for other professions #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@chris_richards2 @physiotalk vPTUK was great this year, varied programme and loads of chatting opportunities too sonsidering it was entirely online virtual world #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Wondering if this is the case for most people? Has your mandatory training been affected? #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@Sallylk @chris_richards2 It was great wasn't it! I 'walked' past several people I knew and was able to stop to chat to them #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk @chris_richards2 I paid up front but was able to claim my vPTUK ticket cost back from my employer The virtual nature of the event made this possible so hope it continues in the future #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk #physiotalk being honest I've not been very proactive at seeking out opportunities - but our management have generally been supportive of appropriate external training (online etc) where staffing levels permit (which is no different from normal).
physiotalk @physiotalk
Onto the next question... #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk @Sallylk It really was an amazing experience #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk @chris_richards2 I was supported and so was my colleague to go to VPUK both for the first time. #Physiotalk this helped both of our development. Because it was virtual that did help as no travel costs to pay for.
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk Regular on call IST changed to Teams #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q2 How do you ensure you keep your CPD 'continuous' - how regularly do you add to your CPD? #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@katysmith8319 I think so much more has gone digital now! Do you see it going back to F2F or staying on Teams? #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@Sallylk @physiotalk #physiotalk think we've relied heavilly on learnpro modules or teams meetings for mandatory training.
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk With so much training moving to online delivery, I worry that our physical skills may stagnate..not sure how to overcome this as just doing what feels safe at the moment.. #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
For those who 'went' to vPUK #physio20 - are you planning to go to #WorldPhysio2021 in April? #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk I write what I’ve done in my calendar and add over the month. Then I sort it all out at the end of the month. #physiotalk
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
RT @physiotalk: Q1 How does your workplace support CPD and has this changed in the last year? #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk #physiotalk this has been a challenge this year, think i was pretty good with documenting onto TURAS directly, until about October. Need to get caught up from notes and papers 'filed' in my work bag and diary....hence my motivation to join in tonight - a kick up the backside!
Joe Middleton @_JoeMiddleton
RT @physiotalk: Q2 How do you ensure you keep your CPD 'continuous' - how regularly do you add to your CPD? #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #Physiotalk we are doing virtual training for staff. I’ve been going to In service and providing some for our team. It’s a learning experience. I’ve attended webinars & conferences. This has helped massively with my development. I won an AHA award so lots has come from that too.
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I try to make sure I've done at least a couple of things a month. This can be major conferences or a short patient facing reflection on reasoning. (Or there are two #physiotalk each month as well of course!)
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk No plans to 'attend' this as yet, feels difficult to plan anything at the mo! Would you recommend?? #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk I actively engage in seeking CPD out whether it's through my work or myself finding online webinars to do Anything I think is of value wether it is resources or useful emails I print off and once a month I add it to my folder #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk I’d love to go back to face to face as soon as it’s safe to. I do find it a bit of a struggle with teams, due to lack of tech and lack of socially distanced space when all of the on call staff are trying to access a computer #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@Sallylk I've been to the last two in person world congresses and can fully recommend them! Hope it translates to online as well as the CSP congress did - but no info as to digital platform as yet! #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk Adding something to a diary every month is a great idea! Will help to demonstrated that a lot of we do regularly is already CPD, we just need to document and reflect on it..? #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk Although digital has a huge advantage that you can access from anywhere which increases CPD opportunities #physiotalk
Laura Grugel @LGrugel21
@physiotalk As a student it’s a bit easier as we are learning each day! I try to keep a learning log each day of new experiences on placements, complete reflections on positive or negative experiences, IST, podcasts and webinars weekly if I can! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@Sallylk @physiotalk Yes - my two things a month are the things I try to reflect on and document fully. The diary is full of other things that are part of CPD - such as IST, tweetchats, reading etc! #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@katysmith8319 @physiotalk Lack of tech in the NHS is a major problem (as with schools and many other areas it would seem too) #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@Sallylk @physiotalk #physiotalk I've been jotting in the diary since the start of the year - just need to translate it to a reflective account....that's the hard bit! Once a month routine sounds quite a nice idea....maybe last week of the month or something.
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk No plans as of yet but possibly if I can get the time off #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47

Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk Reflecting with other therapists and discussing informally is helpful - just need to translate this into recording how practice has changed and (hopefully) improved to demonstrate learning #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I do love a conference - but its more for the networking at times! The @GeriSoc conferences are great and I've taken part in some of their other online activities this year as well. Its specific to my patient population which is important to me #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk I’m loving a webinar just now (v. biased 😂) and then reflecting and debriefing others afterward. Teaching it to someone else is a really good way to solidify what you’ve learned. #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk Regular IST and updates within the team. Sharing ideas from each other who’ve attended training. #physiotalk Q3
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk I thoroughly enjoyed the CSP webinar on support workers last year and looking forward to the series of webinars on different areas of support workers coming out this year first one this month #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
RT @physiotalk: Q3 What CPD activities do you find most useful for your role? #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@Sallylk @physiotalk Yep. Been loving some peer supervision. Socially distanced of course #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@katysmith8319 @physiotalk Yes I agree teaching others is a fab way of consolidating what you've learned and often raises new questions and continues with the development of skills / knowledge #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk We had IST today journal club on returning to physical activity post covid which was great to discuss as a team as this is a very current and needed area to learn on #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk I love a case study/presentation with the PT team to see different approaches to the same patient. But I also love to speak to other MDT members - hearing on how we can dove tail approaches to maximise impact. Reflecting on that answer it's quite F2F focused! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@chris_richards2 @thecsp have been great with their webinars. I've taken part in some of their education ones as part of my @qmuphysio role. #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
RT @katysmith8319: @Sallylk @physiotalk Yep. Been loving some peer supervision. Socially distanced of course #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@NatashaHinwood @JanetThomas47 @GeriSoc The #physio20 ones were great as you actually 'sat' at a table and could speak directly to people The @GeriSoc use a different app based system (think called Swapcard) that you could chat to people / message them. Seemed to work quite well #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk @NatashaHinwood @GeriSoc Sorry -sent from wrong account! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Time is marching on! Time for our next question... #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q4 How do you plan your CPD to include a mixture of learning activities #physiotalk
Jen Molton @Jen_Molton
@physiotalk I like listening to podcasts - they are one of the most accessible ones for me as I can listen on my commute #physiotalk
Jo Kitchen @J0Physio
@susancotton18 @physiotalk What’s TURAS? I need a better system for recording mine! #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk @NatashaHinwood @JanetThomas47 @GeriSoc #physiotalk i have to say the sound of this puts me off....watching or listening to a presentation online - ok - can't get my head around the networking bit over a computer. Maybe just not for me. Or i need to find an inexpensive way of trying it out 😄😂
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Not sure if this counts as 'planning' but I make sure that I Tweetchat (of course!) Read regularly Plan a conference or two a year (@AGILECSP @WorldPhysio1951 @thecsp @GeriSoc usually) Listen to podcasts on my walks (@MDTea_podcast @TPMPodcast ) #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk I kind of feel this naturally happens when keeping an eye on online webinars usually comes in a range of different areas and if there is an area of particular interest I feel I'm missing I will research specifically into this area #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk @AGILECSP @WorldPhysio1951 @thecsp @GeriSoc @MDTea_podcast @TPMPodcast Plus of course our IST, journal clubs and NHS mandatory training I'm luck in that I get input from more than one workplace as well! #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk Ummmmm I don’t really! At the end of the month if I’ve read multiple journals for example, I’ll do one as a critical appraisal, one as a reflection on new knowledge, and turn one into an IST #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@susancotton18 @physiotalk @NatashaHinwood @GeriSoc But the coffee is great, no queues for the toilet and you can see the presentations clearly without craning your neck if you are at the back! #physiotalk

RT @susancotton18: @J0Physio @physiotalk https://t.co/zfMPNGkRrY #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@physiotalk Opportunities come up from ward level knowledge gaps and patient interactions. That can be difficult to anticipate in Medical #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk @NatashaHinwood @GeriSoc You're selling it well @JanetThomas47 maybe it's the added homeschool computer screens I'm exposed to right now that are the real turn off 😂 it's all online! Nothing is real!! #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk Q4 #physiotalk I keep a document of all the training I have done plus any learning experiences along the way to help me look back and reflect on my learning. On the plus side it’s great to see what I’ve done over the year. #determination #innovation #creativity
physiotalk @physiotalk
Less than 15 minutes left! With two questions to go I had better tweet out the next one! #physiotalk
Katy Smith Respiratory PT @katysmith8319
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk @AGILECSP @WorldPhysio1951 @thecsp @GeriSoc @MDTea_podcast @TPMPodcast Podcasts! I’ve never explored this before in terms of CPD. what a great idea! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
You may be right! No home schooling for me - but I do spend quite a bit of time in front of a screen for @QMUPhysio of course! #physiotalk
Daniel Imeson @DanielPhysio
@physiotalk I find it useful to use @The_HCPC guidance on what 'pillars' are required by the CPD standards they hold. This helps give a good structure for me I feel. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@katysmith8319 @physiotalk @AGILECSP @WorldPhysio1951 @thecsp @GeriSoc @MDTea_podcast @TPMPodcast Podcasts are great! We use them at work as well - listen to them during an IST time and then can discuss together (whilst remaining 2m apart of course...) #physiotalk

Q5 Has your CPD changed the way you work? #physiotalk
Jo Kitchen @J0Physio
@physiotalk Mine very much affected by what’s on offer- funding & time. Then I try and fill in the gals with my own learning- podcasts/IST/reading #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk #physiotalk I don't plan well. Rely on my colleages to suggest varied IST at work - agree with @JanetThomas47 the @MDTea_podcast have great variety. Must try harder to be proactive at deciding what to look out for.
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@katysmith8319 @physiotalk @AGILECSP @WorldPhysio1951 @thecsp @GeriSoc @MDTea_podcast @TPMPodcast We listened to the @MDTea_podcast on Osteoporosis a couple of weeks ago. Advantage is that anyone not there that day can also listen to it as well later on (or at any time that suits..) #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk Of course makes your more knowledgeable in areas creating growth in your role in which will be applied to the patients you see either through the advice you give or the physio being given or both #physiotalk

@physiotalk Q5 #physiotalk CPD is changing as is is the way we work. I don’t mind change it’s good to have it. The new ways of working has helped and can only improve in the long term #digital & #innovation if it’s good for the service it’s great all round #patientcentred

physiotalk @physiotalk
Q6 Any tips or advice for how to complete your CPD portfolio #physiotalk

@physiotalk Normally our workplace is very supportive. Monthly supervision sessions, monthly IST and encouragement to apply for study leave/attend relevant courses #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I use the @thecsp ePortfolio system. I have a section for each part of my KSF so that I can link directly to my learning Love that I can upload pdfs and even videos directly to the system And share it with my manager who isn't a physio with a 'secret link!' #physiotalk
Efua Hagan @knitknitqueen
@physiotalk Have a look on the @The_HCPC website, their CPD section is much improved and this means you can see what is CPD as there are some activities individuals do not realise relate to CPD #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk Make sections. At the front of mine is my supervisions and PDR. Another section would be CPD events I have attended or areas I have researched. Another section would be achievements. Another would be reflections #physiotalk
