Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
Hi good evening Laura here UK in Surrey currently #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
I'm on the #physiotalk account tonight from a chilly Edinburgh
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] looking forward to this following on from [REDACTED USER] event today #FirstContactPhysio #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] yes was very good and some great discussions #physiotalk
Yvette @Yvette10440772
#physiotalk Hi am new to twitter and am a private physio working as an FCP
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@Yvette10440772 welcome! brave start to twitter so good stuff! #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
Hi from South Wales #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] we are currently running a pilot #FirstContactPhysio #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
we have 3 FCP's working in 2 GP practices 4 sessions per week , 20 minute appointments #FirstContactPhysio #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] evening! #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] running for a month seeing a variety of MSK conditions but dealing with the wider issues as well, some serious pathology picked up too #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
What is the difference between having a self-referral service vs. FCP? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@ScottBuxton_1 yes session is 4 wish hours an am or pm #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] we used [REDACTED USER] to mentor our FCPs before they got going which was a great insight to what they were letting themselves in for! #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] I think it is important to be clear about the different between first contact physio and first contact practitioner, this is often perceived as the same and it isn't #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
So, if I saw a FCP physiotherapist, they would potentially have to refer me to a physiotherapy service for ongoing management? #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
[REDACTED USER] Care navigation, seeing the right person at the right time. Appropriate referral and signposting #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@_JoeMiddleton or not, the idea is to try to get the patients to self manage where appropriate #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
Oh now I am even more confused!?!? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] think its ok to call themselves a physio but the role is not seeing patients in same context - they are not being referred by GP for physio. Its about self management , signposting, identifying other issues etc #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
Good question. So far, a First Contact Physio (not practitioner) seems to work in primary care as an alternative to a GP, seeing MSK complaints but otherwise doing everything (and more that a GP can). Am I on the right track here? #physiotalk
@_JoeMiddleton
Hang on. Is the amazing working being done by [REDACTED USER] about First Contact Practitioners or First Contact Physios, and are they different things? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@ScottBuxton_1 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] @_JoeMiddleton need to consider scope of practice, so yes focus would be on MSK but you are looking at the patient holistically, consider the multi morbidities etc. I see it as part of the patients journey, the front end & not neglecting our core physio, should be integrated #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@_JoeMiddleton picture aN AP who is more of a generalist rather than a specialist , does that help? #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
@natbeswetherick @ScottBuxton_1 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] @scottbuxton [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] But don't those roles already exist, with the drive coming from the advanced clinical practice 'movement'? #physiotalk
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] @ScottBuxton_1 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] In primary care only? #physiotalk
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] CATS? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] advanced clinical reasoning and advanced clinical reasoning ...:) #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] @ScottBuxton_1 When it doesn't have Emergency Medicine Doctors, and usually isn't 24/7. ED is now the preferred term over A&E. #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] its coming! but its only part go the jigsaw puzzle #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] @ScottBuxton_1 @natbeswetherick [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] @scottbuxton [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] Is that an open invitation Amanda? :) #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] I knew you would ask that!! think broadly, deal with complexity, systems thinking #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
But all within GP practices, yes? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] @jobK2 [REDACTED USER] through @NHS_HealthEdEng and CSP #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@ScottBuxton_1 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] hopefully May but it will be well advertised #FirstContactPhysio #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] no it will be far reaching and even looking to going global #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] brilliant question, not really..we need to look at developing the workforce, need to train FCP, flex the workforce , we need to integrate core physio as so important and AP and FCP not possible without core physio #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] completely agree Michelle. #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
KB @KBNeuroinfo
RT @LaurafinucaneB: [REDACTED USER] brilliant question, not really..we need to look at developing the workforce, need to train FCP, flex the wo…
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] Haven''t MSK & Orthopaedic interface services been doing that already? #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] we need to avoid this happening , best model IMO is having FCP working in physio dept as well as AP so we grow our workforce and support #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] band 8 , band 7 trains post we are worth it !! #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] clinical assessment and treatment service #physiotalk #FirstContactPhysio
@_JoeMiddleton
[REDACTED USER] @LaurafinucaneB [REDACTED USER] I mean, you make a really good point there!!! #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] depends, AP would work in a CATS as triage role essentially #physiotalk thanks for curating !
@_JoeMiddleton
Thanks [REDACTED USER] I think things are a little clearer, but can't help but feel that FCP just joins the melting pot of confusion that is ACP. Will do some reading of the resources shared tonight and see how I get on! #physiotalk
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
[REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] agree but we are in control of some of that IMO #physiotalk #firstcontactphysio
Laura Finucane @LaurafinucaneB
@jobK2 [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] [REDACTED USER] has a paper accepted....#physiotalk
