@physiotalk @clairegeorge03 Working in a #mentalhealth trust means very few band 5 #physio opportunities. Looking at this at place based level from a cross place rotational perspective but limited due to need for posts in rotation to be 1.0wte & aren’t able to offer that #physiotalk

@physiotalk I think it’s important to make these opportunities locally, think Exposure to new things, shadowing, supported QI projects etc. Not all training has to be formal courses #physiotalk

Jo Sainty 💙 @physjo
@physiotalk We have good local clinical IST provision, and trust leadership programmes, physios are developing into ACP and FCP roles. Host training to give more access #physiotalk
Lindsay O'Connor @Lindsay_OConnor
@physiotalk I work in a community neuro service, clinically we have very few B5s, a large number of B6s (most rotational within neuro) and a few B7/8 with mostly managerial roles. Currently there isn’t enough focus on developing staff, especially to become advanced practitioners #Physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@physiotalk I was the first AHP to complete my Trust’s preceptor programme, which was mainly nursing based, however still very useful. I’ve since then gone on an Improvement Champion programme. Interested to hear if anyone has had similar opportunities? #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk #physiotalk it's about seeking opportunity and then articulating how that development will help the service as well as yourself. many of my experiences have come through my @thecsp roles which my workplace supported as it was positive for both of us.

@clairegeorge03 @physiotalk Important for learning opportunities to be underpinned by #PADR personal /professional development objectives - this often more likely to generate approval to do training etc esp if can align learning needs with #trust #strategicpriorities #physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@HulsePhilip @physiotalk @thecsp Do you think your work with @thecsp helped you develop from a B5 physiotherapist into more senior roles? If so, how? #physiotalk
Jo Sainty 💙 @physjo

@clairegeorge03 @physiotalk Also important esp at #B5 to realise much to be learned from the actual #patient exposure, shadowing within the #MDT and interprofessionally across care pathways. #Peerreview also invaluable beyond traditional #clinicalgovernance learning routes. #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@Lindsay_OConnor @physiotalk #physiotalk what issues in your service could be resolved by investment in staff development? How can you explain to your Trust what the return would be in terms of staff patients & finance through new ways of working? Development happens for a reason what unmet need would it fix

@HulsePhilip @Lindsay_OConnor @physiotalk #physiotalk investment in development more than just £££. Learning culture needs to be embedded which includes self /team directed learning & learning when things go well as much as when they dont. The investment is the time to feedback to all what was learned & allow reflection
physiotalk @physiotalk
Agree. Retention of staff is a huge challenge so learning and development opportunities are key for all staff. #Physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk @clairegeorge03 #physiotalk I would like to see more development of staff willing to enter #FCP roles from my workplace. I perceive there is a lag between the immediate need in primary care and the shift in pace required to meet the demand from the potential #Physiotherapy workforce.

@physiotalk We have recently gone back to 9 month rotations for our band 6’s, from a year. Feedback was that when people are on general rotations, a year is too long in a rotation you don’t have a specialist interest in #physiotalk
Philip Hulse @HulsePhilip
@physiotalk In my career I have done 3, 4 and 6 month rotations as I gradually specialised into #msk it depends on where you are in your career path and what service you work in. It's always an option to build your own rotation through changing employers, sectors and specialisms. #physiotalk
Lindsay O'Connor @Lindsay_OConnor
@EmOnTheBrain @physiotalk @OUH_OCE This sounds fantastic and is something I would love to see in my Trust. We are making progress but the culture just isn’t there to truly embed it currently. Something to work towards! #Physiotalk
Claire George @clairegeorge03
@GeraintRJAH @physiotalk How are you finding the balance between working in advanced practice alongside studying? #physiotalk
Megan Wisson @Physio_Wisso
@Lindsay_OConnor @clairegeorge03 @physiotalk Really interesting read. I agree banding shouldn’t effect this but for this to be the case access to learn these skills and put them in place need to be equal for all practitioners #physiotalk
Sarah De Biase @sarahdebiase
@GeraintRJAH @physiotalk #physiotalk More work to be done to enhance #advance practice roles for #physios at place level. But these and #FCP aren’t enough in isolation - need @PhysioResSoc, #teamleaders, #physio leaders within #national & #armslength bodies eg @PHE_uk Need some leadership from the edge

Claire George @clairegeorge03
