Hello from Southampton #Physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
Hello #physiotalk
MindyCSP @CspMindy
@CarylAPhysio @RHintonPT Doing a fab job already @CarylAPhysio & @RHintonPT - this hour will go quickly...#Physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
I suppose anything that's not immediately obvious on initial observation? #physiotalk
Mary Punton @mphysio99
@RHintonPT Any condition that impacts a persons day to day activities but isn’t visible to other people #physiotalk
ɹǝʇlnoԀ pıʌɐᗡ 🚴🏻 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🇬🇧 @Retlouping
@physiotalk 😊 #physiotalk Minnesota
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@CarylAPhysio I think that's and interesting one - but I suppose so as a good Ax would reveal any issue? #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@RHintonPT The headache conditions hidden disabilities. For instance migraine which is a life long condition that ebbs and flows but is not classed as a long term condition #physiotalk
Maral Shahi, PT, DPT @Maralhasanshahi
@physiotalk Hello! Maral from USA #physiotalk
ɹǝʇlnoԀ pıʌɐᗡ 🚴🏻 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🇬🇧 @Retlouping
@RHintonPT @physiotalk #physiotalk pain, mental illness, systemic conditions, some cancers post recovery, cardiac disease, respiratory diseases etc #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@RHintonPT @CarylAPhysio I would hope so - but I suspect sometimes we don't? Thinking more here of hearing loss in my population, often a problem that isn't mentioned by the patient during an Ax #physiotalk
ɹǝʇlnoԀ pıʌɐᗡ 🚴🏻 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🇬🇧 @Retlouping
@CarylAPhysio @physiotalk #physiotalk people may have kinesiophobic tendencies due to their perception of their disability.
Sophie McAuliffe @SophieMcPhysio
@physiotalk Hello from Glasgow #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
I think the pacing and timing of exercise is critical. Back to my patient group of migraine, there is evidence it helps in migraine but needs to be gradually built up. We can encourage patients with that. #physiotalk
Mary Punton @mphysio99
@CarylAPhysio People may use all of their reserves just getting through the day and acting as if they’re fine, leaving nothing left for exercise. And if they are able to exercise, others may not understand why they may be limited in duration or intensity #physiotalk
Eily @eilymcc
@physiotalk Good morning from Melbourne, more specifically on the Hurstbridge train line to work 👋☕ #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@CarylAPhysio Sometimes people say it can be a relief to have a diagnosis of a disability when they have a "hidden condition". #physiotalk
Eily @eilymcc
@RHintonPT @physiotalk A great list already... also some vestibular conditions #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@MDennies_Physio @mphysio99 @CarylAPhysio This is true in our older / frailer population as well. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@RHintonPT Nothing specific, but I think its probably those with multiple hidden conditions? Lots of my older patients have issues with eyesight, hearing, continence etc #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@MDennies_Physio @mphysio99 @CarylAPhysio I agree. Often the patient's goals are more subtle than that. Leaving their bedroom, walking to get milk. I think the way we phrase encouraging activity has to be engaging and relevant #physiotalk
Mary Punton @mphysio99
@CarylAPhysio @_lewadam Great idea! Routines and schedules can really help people to fit exercise into a routine, but if it’s not flexible enough, it doesn’t always allow for unexpected events which have the capability to create set backs #physiotalk
Eily @eilymcc
@RHintonPT @physiotalk Oops #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@CarylAPhysio @BexTownley @MDennies_Physio @mphysio99 Absolutely! they need to know what happens when if they feel worse for a little or if they feel better. How to adjust the exercise level for their condition as it fluctuates #physiotalk #Migraine

@MDennies_Physio @CarylAPhysio @BexTownley I’ve heard of a few different explanations- comparison to a phone battery make it easier for many to understand what fatigue/hidden symptoms are like to deal with #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@darrenabrown @physiotalk @CarylAPhysio @WHO @ChelWestTherapy I'm interested in the scoring and will look post chat! The domains are a little like a comprehensive geriatric assessment I suspect - but for all! #physiotalk
Mary Punton @mphysio99
@AnneMarieLogan2 @CarylAPhysio @BexTownley @MDennies_Physio Patients definitely need to be equipped to manage fluctuations in symptoms and feel that they understand what is happening and have some control over the situation #physiotalk

@RHintonPT I feel like I could provide basic Ax/Rx, but everyone is so different and there’s no one-size fits all so we can’t give definite answers, which is what many patients want us to tell them (not limited to hidden disabilities) #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@CarylAPhysio The most common feedback we get from our self management programme for migraine is that patients really value learning with other patients and seeing that others have the same condition. Its not hidden anymore. #physiotalk #migrainetrust
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@physiotalk @CarylAPhysio Very much so. You can see it in action in a group of patients with their friends/ partner. Invisibility/ anxiety about a disease starts to melt away and the patients start taking an active part. It is wonderful to see. #physiotalk #migrainetrust
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@RHintonPT Not vary different I suspect but that group dynamic becomes even more important in a hidden disability #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@physiotalk @CarylAPhysio We do. https://t.co/TsqabgOJkb #physiotalk
Anne-Marie Logan @AnneMarieLogan2
@physiotalk @CarylAPhysio No, covers all aspects of migraine management but explains the importance of exercise. Not possible to cover everything in 2 hours #physiotalk

There have been some great learning points shared tonight & we would love to hear more about how you have helped patients overcome major barriers to activity. #Physiotalk 1/2
