Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
I'm on the #physiotalk account tonight - having enjoyed my cawl and welsh cakes for #StDavidsDay first! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
RT @physiotalk:
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Certainly has! Changes in both my NHS and HEI roles in very different ways. #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk Susan, in Fife - full of Welsh Rarebit and Welsh cakes! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@susancotton18 @physiotalk Da iawn! #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk @physiokatiek In principle, no, as an inpatient rehab physio the core of my job is unchanged. Lots of changes in the environment, and a growing inpatient caseload due to additional beds, and a geographically wider spread of wards to cover as a team #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@ESNEFT_CAN @physiotalk Certainly are! Less so in my NHS role where I have remained F2F in the main with older rehab patients, but the change in education delivery has been very marked! #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk Things to do with tech. Webinars, using TEAMS - video calls/ meetings. All things I wouldn't have considered before when communicating with the MDT, and families, and in terms of accessing learning oppertunities (apart from #physiotalk, of course - that was on my radar already!)
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@ESNEFT_CAN @physiotalk Yes- I'm finding (in my placement coordination role) far more educators who are open to new delivery models for practice based education. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk Previously, we would spend more time with patients and support them to work towards their goals, that could include things like progressing to using walking stick or outdoor mobility, but due to long waiting lists, the focus is on 'making them safe' & then pull out. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@gvhawtin @physiotalk Absolutely! Our support workers have more or less been redeployed the whole time - and have been so adaptable and flexible. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@ESNEFT_CAN @physiotalk Yes! I've just been allocating our next cohort of placements and I've never seen so many Peer Assisted Learning placements on offer. Its great to see! #physiotalk

@physiotalk Oh, difficult one. Clinical skills have been honed in terms of needing to maximise impact in a time of pressure on the system. But the flip side of the non-clinical skills developed to support the practicality of delivering on that, may be more transferable? #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk The transferable skills are relevant because when I interviewed for a post that was a band higher in December, I used these transferable skills in my responses during the interview, and I got offered the post, which I started today! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I think any new skill is applicable in general. I am sure things I gain from one of my jobs always transfers over to the other job in time. #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk 100%. Things are not going to return to the way they were 12 months ago, there is a new normal being worked out as we go forwards. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk Improved communication skills from dealing with patients with PALS complaints, staying professional with family members, yet being firm regarding professional opinions, writing reports in response to MP requests among other things... these will always be with us. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I wonder if its that undefinable 'something' from being pushed to the limit and finding you can cope and have the inner resilience? #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk Difficult to say I guess, depends on your focus / job aspiration or requirement? #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk It is not easy, because I had applied for that job because I was 'rehab oriented'. It is hard when you have to leave them with exercises, knowing that you wont be able to review them and progress them onto the next level. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk For some of the patients, you know that at some point soon or later, they will be bouncing back to the service. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@JustineMusiime @physiotalk I know just what you mean! I am itching to get back to 'proper' rehab to fully progress people to their goals. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk The ability to cope when services are changing almost daily and decisions need to be made quickly. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk For my new role, it is all of them. We will be approaching care homes and introducing a new service to support them, having MDT meetings with GPs & the carehomes, supporting carehome residents who are 'complex' with multiple comorbidities, I see it is all of them! #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@physiotalk Resilience and adaptability #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Glad to know that I am not alone in feeling this way. #physiotalk
Susan Cotton @susancotton18
@JustineMusiime @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk You're certainly not alone in that feeling #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@susancotton18 @physiotalk I would say the same! #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@gvhawtin @physiotalk @NHSLeadership This is brilliant @gvhawtin. Keep going. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@physiotalk Leadership. I believe even if I am not the 'leader' by virtue of position, I can still be able to contribute towards being supportive of fellow members of the team, but also think outside the box to support the service to function better. #physiotalk
Justine Musiime - MSc MPH MCSP @JustineMusiime
@susancotton18 @physiotalk This has been a big one for all of us. Having training without sitting in the same room with the trainer and fellow trainees, I would say it has taught some of us to learn to concentrate. #physiotalk
