Sara Bolton 🌈💙 @southernscampi
@physiotalk So sorry I can’t join tonight! Read the qus,.. twitter has helped transform my professional life , wide reaching, barrier busting & the new ‘elevator’ pitch opportunity for many. Connecting with like minds is a big buzz, then follow up with physical meet #physiotalk Enjoy!!
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
Here to tweet from @physiotalk and musing how many chats I've taken part in? not all 100 though - I do have a holiday every now and then :) #physiotalk

Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@physiotalk so far lots of deleting and peering at the tiny keyboard . cant even find the hash key #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@AideenPhysio @Connect_Health_ Do you think we should have had cake? If so - it would have had to move beyond the digital to actual cake :) #physiotalk

Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@physiotalk Hi all! Louise here, tweeting from Dublin this eve! #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk For me it’s moving from talking the talk on here to actually walking the walk. We all love to share our opinions and talk about best practice but it’s how we can put that into our own practice. #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@Sallylk @physiotalk i think you have to follow the #physiotalk easier to do if you have a tweetdeck rather than just operating from a phone
Naomi McVey 🐝 @NaomiMcVey
@PrestonsHealth @physiotalk Oh no! #physiotalk
Priya J @PriyanikaJ
@physiotalk For me, It's a challenge of translating what I support/oppose, learn on SoMe into my clinical practice and pt. interactions #physiotalk

Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@physiotalk #physiotalk Greetings from rainy (3 cheers, at last) Cape Town from @PamKHphysio currently a 'patient' too recovering from C4-5 #SpinalCordInjury early Jan
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Also think it can be not being so protective of our own local resources/research that may not yet be published. If something works shout about it, and shout loud. Share your experiences as it can help others, but can also help you learn more. #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@physiotalk #physiotalk it can be hindered if people in your speciality are not great users of twitter. Hugely useful for following NICE guidelines, CSP notifications etc

RT @physiotalk: Q How have you taken ideas from Twitter and translated them into your professional life #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@liziophysio1 So - how to get more onto Twitter?? #physiotalk
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@physiotalk To me it means embedding digital in every area. It’s now getting ubiquitous. But once we have digitised where do we go? We need to empower clinicians with right tools and innovating with intelligence. #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk Much easier to move beyond digital when colleagues are also on SoMe and seeing the same discussions/information/movements #physiotalk
James Pearson @jimmypeo17
@physiotalk Being made more acutely aware of fresh research and best practice guidelines which otherwise may have taken several years to disseminate into practice #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@physiotalk #physiotalk by discussing it with colleagues, trying to bring it up with professional groups, trying to show where it has been useful and not just social media for the timewasting value.
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47

Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Learning from others, from random tweets I’ve emailed people to compare practice on a whole heap of things and ma doing it more and more. We can become so insular that we don’t know what’s going on unless I’m a network or published! So much easier just to ask people #physiotalk

physiotalk @physiotalk
Have any of you introduced something into your practice that you ONLY saw (initially at least!) on Twitter? #physiotalk
Helen Preston @PrestonsHealth
@physiotalk @liziophysio1 We get more Physios onto twitter by being respectful and professional with each other so that it opens up debate across all personality types & confidence levels: making it much more inclusive #physiotalk
Priya J @PriyanikaJ
@physiotalk I've learned more from the discussions among clinicians and academics then the resources themselves; benefits of lurking in the early days 😂 #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@physiotalk @liziophysio1 Through tangible, specific examples - eg contacts gained, collaborations made, papers sourced - starting out on twitter is confusing & easy to switch off if there's no benefit insight! #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Of course! Although at first I was slightly uneasy about doing it, but then seeing how helpful people are it makes you want to connect more. Also think you need to not only want information but be willing to share yourself which makes it a 2 way street. #physiotalk
Helen Preston @PrestonsHealth
RT @PriyanikaJ: @physiotalk And I started to develop keen interest in running injuries through all the free resources provided by @tomgoom
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@IanTyrrell5 @physiotalk #physiotalk not just our own practice but influence our team and others practice who may not be exposed to the evidence and opinions available on social media
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@physiotalk @IanTyrrell5 #physiotalk i think that gradually you do build relationships with people you engage with, this builds up confidence in emailing or PM them. You at least get a "feeling" for how someone conducts them self.
Fasuba Ayobami @e_fasuba
@physiotalk #physiotalk better approach to client management, thirst for EBP/clinical updates, networking
Shona Thompson (nee Cain) @shonacain_phys
I find difficulty with SoMe is there is so much info available. keeping on top of what is relevant to my practice now to make clinical changes. Definitely get great ideas on SoMe but lots and lots it's where to start sometimes. Don't know if it's me being new to SoMe #physiotalk
Michael keeling @keeling_michael
@physiotalk @liziophysio1 Show people the benefits, #twitter can be a professional tool for learning, sharing, networking.. But it's not for everyone.. #physiotalk
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@physiotalk I have gained massively from getting in touch with like minded people to collaborate with. My learning and research question is getting clearer. #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk I gained a lot from @WeLearn #AllOurHealth digital learning, wouldn't have come across a lot of the resources without it (or at least not for a while) and managed to translate a lot of learning into practice! #physiotalk
James Pearson @jimmypeo17
@physiotalk Yes @AdamMeakins suggestions for isometrics>isotonics posterior-superior rotator cuff tendinopathy exercises. Albeit I did read the research that Adam quoted! #physiotalk
Michael keeling @keeling_michael
@Sallylk @physiotalk @liziophysio1 Yes completely agree!! Esp when your phone is quicker and more powerful! #physiotalk
RunningPhysio @tomgoom
RT @PriyanikaJ: @physiotalk And I started to develop keen interest in running injuries through all the free resources provided by @tomgoom
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@liziophysio1 @physiotalk #physiotalk diffusion of innovation rules apply and I think those already on twitter are often those seeking change and seeking best evidence. Are we still amongst the 'early adopters' in the world of cpd on twitter
Naomi McVey 🐝 @NaomiMcVey
@physiotalk For me it’s been about influencing my values & behaviours through learning from others - following patient leaders including @allyc375 have had a huge influence on me #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@AnnaKEvans @liziophysio1 What do you all think - are we beyond 'early adoption' now and moving into mainstream? #physiotalk
Robin Higginson @RobinHigginson
@physiotalk The future IS digital. Machine learning will provide us with data that has previously been invisible, patterns that have never been recognised, and thus delivery of bespoke, targeted healthcare that benefits patients. #physiotalk
QuadriPhysio Services @quadriphysio
@physiotalk More research oriented and international networking #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Moving onto our next linked question #physiotalk
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@rashidapickford @physiotalk I have found twitter so useful for my masters modules so far. Particularly around leadership and change management #physiotalk definitely doesn't fit the traditional rules of how to do literature searches though.
James Pearson @jimmypeo17
@physiotalk Also @tomgoom has made some cracking suggestions for load management in relation to bone stress and progressive loading patterns #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
How have you moved the links made on Twitter into your non-digital life? #physiotalk
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk Thanks Janet #WCPT2017 was an amazing event esp intro to #Twitter
Shona Thompson (nee Cain) @shonacain_phys
#physiotalk Twitter and digitisation should improve sharing of next knowledge and reduce post code lottery for services. However still have to influence locally for patient pathways
physiotalk @physiotalk
@AnnaKEvans @rashidapickford Should it? Does it make it MUCH easier to find difficult to search for grey literature? #physiotalk
Priya J @PriyanikaJ
@physiotalk @MRWPhysio #physiotalk
Lucy Aird @AirdLucy
@physiotalk Yes lots! Mainly from @tomgoom @clinicaledge and @AdamMeakins The monkey shrug now a mainstay of my exercise prescription #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Generally just through email. Sharing practice and ideas. #physiotalk
QuadriPhysio Services @quadriphysio
@physiotalk Encourage other colleagues to join the moving train #physiotalk
Lucy Aird @AirdLucy
@KBNeuroinfo @physiotalk @AideenPhysio @ABUHBPT I’d be interested to hear how this works out, we’re just in the process of setting something up and figuring out how best to manage this #physiotalk
James Pearson @jimmypeo17
@physiotalk I think this is another level of appraising literature. In the past i would be more limited with relative Athens access, less open resources available at my disposal because of some peer reviewed journal costs. Digital platforms have improved aspects of accessibility #physiotalk
Helen Preston @PrestonsHealth
@physiotalk By first connecting and interacting on twitter and then at conferences /courses and continuing to share info together afterwards #physiotalk
Physio_ Leanne SIMONCELLI @PhysioSIMONCEL1
RT @PriyanikaJ: @physiotalk And I started to develop keen interest in running injuries through all the free resources provided by @tomgoom
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@physiotalk @liziophysio1 I think it is too easy to think it's mainstream when surrounded by like minded people. I have seen it cause divides in relationships at work through those who've been involved in twitter chat/discussion and those who haven't #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@PrestonsHealth @physiotalk Do you find it much easier networking and making ongoing links with people at conferences as you 'know' people from Twitter? I certainly do! #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk have progressed from threads to, DMs to emails and then calls, have done a handful of F2F but more to come in the next few months - especially with @AHPs4PH ! #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@physiotalk Not frequently - because of geographical barriers! But conferences etc are a good chance to connect, and skype - if that counts as non-digital 😄 #physiotalk
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@physiotalk @AnnaKEvans It makes it easier to get a feel of literature you may not easily find or in a form that is easy to engage with. #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@JanetThomas47 @PrestonsHealth Which is why I think its really important to have your twitter picture as yourself! (Unless you want to remain incognito....) #physiotalk
Helen Preston @PrestonsHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Yes, I walked into #paincloud this weekend and knew lots of the audience purely from Twitter. Even better that it was across international and professional boundaries #physiotalk
Shona Thompson (nee Cain) @shonacain_phys
@AnnaKEvans @physiotalk @liziophysio1 I agree @AnnaKEvans still very few people active in the workplace. It's still in transition to mainstream #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk @PrestonsHealth Sorry - meant that to come from me! Tweetdeck fail #physiotalk
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@physiotalk @rashidapickford #physiotalk I find the 'rules' of searching for literature outdated in the digital world. 'Cited by' on Google scholar and recommendations on twitter have found great articles a database search would have missed
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@physiotalk @JanetThomas47 @PrestonsHealth #physiotalk but slightly awkward when people have twins, not mentioning any names but someone's sister lives very near my mum and has similar haunts!!
physiotalk @physiotalk
@Louise_Brennan_ Not a question I had planned, but what is non-digital nowadays... #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@liziophysio1 @physiotalk @PrestonsHealth Hmmm - who could that be! #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk @AHPs4PH Good idea, progressing contacts and connections made #physiotalk
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk @AHPs4PH Me too. Will be doing my F2F with someone I DM after getting the contact from a thread! #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@JanetThomas47 @PrestonsHealth @physiotalk I do too, it's a good ice-breaker, and you know you'll have at least one or two things in common! #physiotalk

Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@Louise_Brennan_ @PrestonsHealth @physiotalk I coined the 'twitter squint' at #wcpt2017 when not precisely sure who the person was.... #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
@shonacain_phys @AnnaKEvans @physiotalk yes I am charged with leading the #NW #APCP tweetpage, but at last twilight session there were very few people interested or engaged with twitter #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Moving onto our next question... #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q What have been the benefits of taking your digital links beyond the digital? #physiotalk
Aaron McEneaney PT @aaron_physio
@physiotalk Being able to engage with top researchers within physiotherapy regardless of your location is the major benefit. It helps massively with bridging the gap from research publication to clinical practice #physiotalk
RunningPhysio @tomgoom
@PriyanikaJ @physiotalk @function2fitnes Hi Priya, that’s great to hear, thanks! 😀 #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@aaron_maca And do you find people are very willing to engage - I certainly think so in my experience? #physiotalk
Sibyl Edward, D.P.T. @pasl_pt
@aaron_maca @physiotalk My feeling exactly #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@aaron_maca Do you think it has the possibility of bringing down the time lag between publication and implementation widely? #physiotalk
Naomi McVey 🐝 @NaomiMcVey
@physiotalk Phone calls, Skype, face to face, meets, research projects & even some nights out! #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk Has been a huge benefit on my career development - I've found mentors on twitter I couldn't have dreamed of without SoMe! #physiotalk
Pamela Kipps Hansford @PamKHphysio
@JanetThomas47 @PrestonsHealth @physiotalk #physiotalk or vice versa, meeting people at conferences and sharing ideas on social media (not just Twitter)
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk I was able to get some really interesting information regarding practice development roles where they were already in place. Also trying to evaluate our medical devices training to other trusts. Shared our great work in ed. So all positive. #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
#physiotalk my only concern is about cyber bullying, when someone with a following of thousands can have an instant impact and uses it to "stir up a debate" rather than sensitively and constructively.
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk Using tweets and Fb posts as a starting point for having difficult conversations eg #rehabmatters with managers and commissioners #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@NaomiMcVey More #PTpubnights needed? #physiotalk
Aaron McEneaney PT @aaron_physio
@physiotalk Absolutely, it's a supportive environment from my experience. Although in saying that, I was publicly called out for a non-evidence based opinion at one point. Accountability in the public domain! #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk @NaomiMcVey Well it basically your birthday... ;) #physiotalk
Helen Preston @PrestonsHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk got to catch flight now, night all!
physiotalk @physiotalk
@AideenPhysio @NaomiMcVey You DO have a point... #physiotalk
Lucy Aird @AirdLucy
@physiotalk @aaron_maca Yes! I had a great response when reaching out to a bunch of senior researchers and clinicians recently who I follow, couldn’t have done that without Twitter #physiotalk
Shona Thompson (nee Cain) @shonacain_phys
@physiotalk @aaron_maca #physiotalk I think the impact and spread will depend. If a group of someone with large following retweet and publicise it could. Need to ensure good links when publicising
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@physiotalk @aaron_maca Potentially...but only in those who are using twitter, and if they are strong advocates for change! #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk @IanTyrrell5 I definitely have more confidence approaching people that I’ve ‘followed’ when I meet them #physiotalk
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@physiotalk Personal confidence with peers and improved patient care are added benefits. #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Just over 10 mins to go - so onto our penultimate question #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q Moving beyond physiotherapy to a digital influence outside of the profession - Why and How? #physiotalk
Aaron McEneaney PT @aaron_physio
@Louise_Brennan_ @physiotalk Some papers quote a delay of up to 22 years. Sharing research on SoMe is key in reducing this assuming we go to our departments and disseminate further #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@shonacain_phys @physiotalk @aaron_maca Yep, and with PTs connecting with research in so many diff ways (journal, twitter, research gate, conferences...) you need to have a broad dissemination strategy! #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk Power in collaboration #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk Society is so digitalised we have to move at the same pace as our surroundings or risk getting left behind #physiotalk
Priya J @PriyanikaJ
@physiotalk Thinking out loud.. Be great to influence and link constructively with professionals like chiropractors ; work together for our patients! #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@aaron_maca @physiotalk 22 yrs...it's shocking, isn't it! Gotta share it in every avenue possible (digital and non-digital) to get this time lag down! #physiotalk
Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk I think you only have to look at NHSI paper publication on Friday . We are a sleeping giant of the healthcare system. We need more people sharing their skills to make other professions realise our potential and our value and this can be helped by social media. #physiotalk
Sally Kennedy @Sallylk
@physiotalk Think I could probably make more use of #SoMe to link with other AHPs and maybe outside health care altogether but the vastness of the digital community is overwhelming! #physiotalk
Fasuba Ayobami @e_fasuba
@physiotalk #physiotalk put it to practice and sharing with others
Rashida Pickford @rashidapickford
@physiotalk Social media is very powerful in influencing patients and getting the right messages out to a wide audience. #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@physiotalk Getting more professionals/colleagues on board so that the voices are representative of the profession #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@Sallylk But is it that vastness that makes moving beyond just physio so important? #physiotalk
Naomi McVey 🐝 @NaomiMcVey
@physiotalk Firstly - to learn from & share with others outside our cliques & silos @WeAHPs @WeNurses #physiotalk
Naomi McVey 🐝 @NaomiMcVey
@Sallylk @physiotalk @WeAHPs a good place to start? Also @OTalk_ very welcoming! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Less than 5 minutes remaining - so your final question for tonight... #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk 100%, many patients want digital rehab tools & there are other professions who are delighted to be develop them, as physio is not traditionally strong in this area! We are doing a good job at catching up, but need to push to get involved & lead this field #physiotalk
Aideen Larmer @AideenPhysio
@shonacain_phys @physiotalk It's crazy isn't it, I very much consider it a CPD resource #physiotalk
Liz Cowan, Cheshire Children’s Physio @liziophysio1
#physiotalk a good debate is great fun and informative if done respectfully. not all are, hence my use of cyber bullying. I don't think it is useful to openly criticise over twitter, rather contact the person and establish the facts first. Not speaking particularly first hand here
physiotalk @physiotalk
What is your 'biggest win' from moving an idea from the digital to your nondigital professional life? #physiotalk
Garry Aldridge @GarryAPhysio
@liziophysio1 Hi. SoMe should be an open forum for discussion and development. Without wishing to peep into line of fire 😇- surely distinction between "stirring up debate" and "cyber bullying"? Problem with SoMe is often lost in translation and needs to be interpreted as such #physiotalk

Ian Tyrrell @IanTyrrell5
@physiotalk Honestly the ability to ask others for ideas. Twitter is easy at times, no self doubts, no worries about people will think of you as they don’t know you. But taking that step from online profile to work email was big for me to begin with. #physiotalk
Louise Brennan @Louise_Brennan_
@AideenPhysio @physiotalk @imperialcollege That's very cool, best of luck with it! It's a fascinating field to be involved in! :-) #physiotalk

Garry Aldridge @GarryAPhysio
@liziophysio1 Much about readers perception I suppose. "Criticise" vs "challenge" vs "question". "Aggressive" vs "blunt". IMHO there aren't many Physios using SoMe purely to increase their own standing as most have a +ve, Pt centred underlying ethos as the bottom line #physiotalk
Anna Evans @AnnaKEvans
@physiotalk From a leadership perspective absolutely loads. I particularly love sketchnotes and have several on my noticeboard most posted by @helenbevan A great conversation starter for encouraging others esp other team leads to use Twitter #physiotalk
