@PaulChapman09 @physiotalk #physiotalk ok, I read it in their readmission form guidelines, since I will not be working till mid-May thought I'd wait, although a bit of an anti-climax to have forms ready to go but not sent!

Jana Beth @JBeth_Physio
@physiotalk I'd say so, yes. Had a couple of questions at the start as I had worked internationally, but contacted HCPC to clarify and it was cleared up very quickly 👌 #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@AnnaBoylan Do you think its just needing clarification in their wording - or a clearer approach overall? #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@physiotalk Remember is for guidance. RtP is self directed and managed by the returner Allow for felxibility Have over 15 registered professions to support #physiotalk

@physiotalk @JBeth_Physio Yes they are keen to support and will be able to guide #physiotalk
Jana Beth @JBeth_Physio
@physiotalk Absolutely. If you're unsure about something or if you're circumstances are unusual, definitely get in touch with HCPC. They're helpful. #physiotalk
Natalie Matchett @NatMatchOT
@AnnaBoylan @physiotalk Do you feel more structure on updating would be helpful? What you recommend to the HCPC if you could feedback that you need form a Returnee perspective to make the process more easier? #physiotalk

I think this is the hard part to get your head around at the start for the returnee and anyone supervising any practical experience

Some great advice so far - and good to know the HCPC are keep to support returners. I wonder if the number of returners has been much higher this year with people keen to help? #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@PaulChapman09 @NHS_HealthEdEng Yes and the advice and supportive group has been incredible #physiotalk
Catherine Sapsford @Catheri81041276
@physiotalk I found the combination of reading the HCPC guidance, and their booklet, plus articles from CSP helped me figure out what I needed to do. The info provided by HEE was helpful too even though I'm from abroad it was very encouraging #physiotalk
Natalie Matchett @NatMatchOT
@physiotalk @PaulChapman09 Always relate your return and updating of of any knowledge and skills gaps to your professions standards of proficiency as a good rule of thumb #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@physiotalk The guidance does allow for flexibility RtP is about updating skills and knwoledge. Basically CPD. #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@PaulChapman09 @AnnaBoylan @NHS_HealthEdEng I know I've asked you directly - but for the tweetchat - any programmes in the other nations? #physiotalk
Jana Beth @JBeth_Physio
@NatMatchOT @AnnaBoylan @physiotalk I think it can be intimidating at the start of the journey to have such 'open' guidance. A bit more direction re where to start could be helpful. However, there are definitely pros to the flexibility as well once you get your head around it! #physiotalk

physiotalk @physiotalk
Q: What are the main barriers to physiotherapists returning to the register? #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@physiotalk I think people dip their toe n the water but organisations have been slow to pick up support #physiotalk
Natalie Matchett @NatMatchOT
@physiotalk Did you know for supervised practice as long as you are working alongside someone from your profession on the HCPC register – you can work within a a MDT team to support you day to day and not necessarily working in same room as your supervisor #physiotalk

Jo Sainty 💙💛 @physjo

@physiotalk COVID-19 been a double edge sword - seen increase to enquiries and sign up to national HEE RtP programme but then difficulties in returning/updating for those wanting a clinical supervised parctce element #physiotalk

@PaulChapman09 @physiotalk @NatMatchOT There is a small financial incentive for the teams to support RtP which can be used for those little extras in the workplace that make everyone’s lives a little better, lots of plus’ for supporting #physiotalk
Natalie Matchett @NatMatchOT
@PaulChapman09 @physiotalk Barriers can be due to no centralised point of contact and some lack of understanding of HCPC RtP requirements - can now use virtual and simulated supervised practice too which the HCPC will consider towards hours/days updating, need to think out the box #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@physiotalk I think finding someone to offer you a placement, the support and the appropriate opportunities to do clinical hours #physiotalk

@physiotalk No have examples of returners looking at a new area to work. Not about learning news skills but updating skills and knowledge #physiotalk
Jo Kitchen @J0Physio
@PaulChapman09 @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Any chance you could share an example of an advert like that? #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
RT @NatMatchOT: @PaulChapman09 @physiotalk And more and more after re-registration not just going back into Band 5 roes but Band 6 and Band 7! have wealth of expertise and knowledge/skills, Organisations starting to recognise the value of the Returner workforce #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@physiotalk I think it’s good for both the employers and returnees to remember we are qualified and we may bring lots of additional skills to our professional@ones through other employment, volunteering and life experience gained during our time away #physiotalk

Q: Where do you see professional body roles in supporting RtP? #physiotalk
Jana Beth @JBeth_Physio
@physiotalk @PaulChapman09 That's the beauty of RtP being so flexible. You've done all the training already, so you can either re-invent yourself within your profession or get back to what you left. Anything is possible. It's a great position to be in and it's an opportunity to be brave 👍 #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09

Link in with your Regional RtP/AHP Leads or AHP Faculties where RtP on agenda & help facilitate supervised practice #physiotalk

@physiotalk Think they need to raise the profile of RtP. Some provide educed membership #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
I'm finding this discussion really interesting - I did 'leave' my post for 7 years (20 odd years ago now!) but continued to do on-call only until I 'returned' Lots chiming with me in the comments! #physiotalk

Catherine Sapsford @Catheri81041276
@physiotalk @PaulChapman09 #physiotalk I have focused period of updating on Cardiac Rehab, as I plan to work in this area. Looks like I'll continue on a volunteer basis for a while after I register, as no job opening just yet. CR was cancx over last year due to covid so wasn't able to do placement

Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@Catheri81041276 @physiotalk @PaulChapman09 Local CR now returning virtually - could you do a placement anywhere in the UK but virtually? #physiotalk

Jo Kitchen @J0Physio
@NatMatchOT @PaulChapman09 @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Thanks, in the past we’ve struggled to recruit to some great band 6 posts that I imagine would be appealing for returners #physiotalk
Jo Sainty 💙💛 @physjo
@physiotalk Positive promotion of the process and benefits to teams and individuals, case studies and returnee stories #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@JanetThomas47 @Catheri81041276 @physiotalk We have discussed about arms-length supervison #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@physiotalk It spurred me on as I felt hugely guilty as a respiratory physio that I wasn’t helping, however actually returning has been hindered by covid #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@J0Physio @NatMatchOT @PaulChapman09 @JanetThomas47 Agree! #physiotalk
Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@J0Physio @NatMatchOT @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Yes alot want to return part time as well #physiotalk
Natalie Matchett @NatMatchOT
@J0Physio @PaulChapman09 @JanetThomas47 @physiotalk You've got it - key to have RtP on workforce plans and use as recruitment and retention tool and fast track to speciality or hard to fill vacancies #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@PaulChapman09 @Catheri81041276 @physiotalk I imagine all of the innovative solutions for student placements could equally apply for RtP supervision?? #physiotalk

Paul_Chapman09 @PaulChapman09
@JanetThomas47 @Catheri81041276 @physiotalk yep Returners can also aupport students like SW do #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q: How do we retain and grow the Returner workforce together? #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@physiotalk @thecsp I think more could be done directing returnees to specific resources, that would be helpful #physiotalk

physiotalk @physiotalk
@NatMatchOT @PaulChapman09 I suspect the transcript will provide a huge source of information and inspiration thanks to their tweets alongside those of the returners on the chat #physiotalk
Anna Roach-Rooke @AnnaBoylan
@PaulChapman09 @physiotalk @thecsp Yes I think it could be more obvious on the individual professions eg The CSP website though, maybe it would also raise the profile of RtP among physios that could support too? #physiotalk

@physiotalk Thank you so much for raising the profile of returning to practice, if more people are aware of the support they can offer to returnees it may make the process less challenging and hopefully they will gain a returnee with a breadth of skills and experience to offer #physiotalk
