Question one How and who helped you get into Quality Improvement? #Physiotalk https://t.co/OVAKWsyfVc
Justine Greaves ( Croxton ) @Jusgreaves28
@physiotalk Justine in Scotland #physiotalk -QI is part of my role in Governance
physiotalk @physiotalk
@chris_richards2 A split role can be challenging but gives a good insight into where the improvement opportunities are @chris_richards2 What is working well in one role and what needs to be improved? #Physiotalk
Susanne Syme @SusanneSyme
@physiotalk I’ve always used QI to put evidence into practice or to persuade others to try new things #physiotalk
Justine Greaves ( Croxton ) @Jusgreaves28
@physiotalk Hi Gemma and Anna #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk For me it Kind of just happened I had an idea for making a ward based exercise class which proved very successful and improved patient flow in the hospital #QITwitter #Physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #Physiotalk I came across it by accident when I lead a project and have learnt loads since while forming new networks. The trust helped with a facilitator but my sport development degree has been an asset #AHPSupportWorkers
physiotalk @physiotalk
@SusanneSyme #Physiotalk. Sometimes easier said than done when you are working across multi agency pathways such as the NHS and Care Sector...Be great to hear from you what tools you have found to be most effective in overcoming resistance to change...#Physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk One role is completely virtual and the other mainly face to face and whilst some face to face is needed I feel you can see more patients virtually when safe to do so #Physiotalk
Lynne Mann @lynnemann13
@physiotalk Being part of a national improvement programme is a great way to get into QI #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@Jusgreaves28 @physiotalk 👋🏻 hiya glad you could be here tonight #Physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Question 2 What QI 'tools' have you used to help you? Have you used story telling as part of your improvement? #Physiotalk https://t.co/P9JAuSbbOh
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
For me I worked in CYP for most of my career then the Trust was tuped to a Mental Health Trust. Now I have a full time role in the QI team working in a Mental Health Trust in London #Physiotalk
Justine Greaves ( Croxton ) @Jusgreaves28
@gvhawtin @physiotalk Thanks ,its probably my main speciality and why I was employed by the MOD #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk The PDSA cycle has been my main tool used can't say I've attempted anything else I've found PDSA cycles can turn into many PDSA cycles #physiotalk #QITwitter

physiotalk @physiotalk
Polite reminder make sure you use the hashtag #Physiotalk
Justine Greaves ( Croxton ) @Jusgreaves28
@physiotalk I think having lots of tools are important. Sometimes people are too rigid and we need to be flexible and use what suits the situation but data collection and recording the changes made and outcome remain important #physiotalk
Brighton Paradza @BParadza
@physiotalk For me it was pretty accidental after pioneering one of the 1st 7-day model in acute, there we need for accountability, measurement,& telling a story… then the journey began , it was 1996 #physiotalk
Lynne Mann @lynnemann13
@physiotalk Story telling is very powerful QI tool. Any good examples? #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #Physiotalk I started with the PDSA cycle but I’ve learnt loads along the way and when Covid hit I had chance to learn more from @HorizonsNHS @Sch4Change @HelenBevan & more Telling a story can be powerful and our patients know how to do this but we can help tell there journey
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
People skills are important when forming a QI collaborative. Building up trusted relationships with stakeholders takes time but is key The NHS Sustainability Model is a very useful tool to help to identify where the opportunities for improvement are #Physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk How does storytelling work is it exactly as it sounds or are there strategies to use #physiotalk
Susanne Syme @SusanneSyme
@physiotalk I have found storytelling with photographs of Magical Moments from care home residents has been very powerful #physiotalk
Rob Minter (He/Him) @RobMinter
@physiotalk Rob from Hull, therapy assistant by background but currently on secondment as AHP Support worker lead #Physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Have you had any formal training in Quality Improvement? #Physiotalk https://t.co/SkpUNKY3JU
physiotalk @physiotalk
@JonathanTopp2 Don't forget to add the hashtag to all your Tweets so we can follow your comments...#Physiotalk Even when you are replying to comments / questions with the hashtag already in the comment / question #Physiotalk
Jonathan Topp @JonathanTopp2
@physiotalk PDSAs and Lean methodologies. Story telling very powerful when you are trying to sell a vision/change idea to staff and used it to indicate the human consequences of repeated fallers in older people #Physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@JonathanTopp2 #Physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@physiotalk #physiotalk as part of @DCHSCET secondment undertaking @ACT2improve training.Model for improvement & simple PDSA. #QI tools tried so far driver diagram; cause & effect; brainstorming; 6 hats. Most effective tool is #QITwitter networking & sharing templates
Brighton Paradza @BParadza
@physiotalk Lot of quantity & quality measurements- all to support the stories from all stakeholders #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@DCHSCET @LisaJBarrett6 @Sarahbankssaz3 #pinchwithpride #QITwitter
physiotalk @physiotalk
@chris_richards2 It's a lot like process mapping but you are mapping the patient journey to see where the opportunities are for improvement #Physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
onto the next question Is it important for us to encourage our colleagues to use Quality Improvement methodology? #Physiotalk https://t.co/HoOY9TYSHt
Lynne Mann @lynnemann13
@physiotalk I have completed Scottish Improvement Leaders programme and a MSc in Integrated service improvement. My training gave me the confidence to apply theory into practice and teach others #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk Then this is something I do often #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #Physiotalk I completed the silver award and I have learnt quite a lot from @HorizonsNHS @Sch4Change completing that in 2020 after I completed my project work #AHPSupportWorkers #AHPQI #QITwitter
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk No formal training unless you include some management qualifications I got before joining the NHS #Physiotalk
Brighton Paradza @BParadza
@physiotalk It’s very important for accountability, to demonstrate value based care, and QI allows to define & measure the value of care, clinical practice & service delivery #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
Yes a lot! @ACT2improve NHS Quality Service Improvement Redesign Teaching Associate and @FCA_coaching The best formal training was my clinical experience working with CYP for many years before working in QI. Physiotherapists have great transferable skills for QI... #Physiotalk
Jonathan Topp @JonathanTopp2
@physiotalk I now help to provide monthly QI at LTHT and learnt a lot this way. Learnt by studying and doing. Formally Improvement Academy Bronze QI and Human Factors. #physiotalk

Susanne Syme @SusanneSyme
@physiotalk The culture in care lends itself to QI but there doesnt seem to be many people with QI methodology knowledge and data collection is notoriously difficult. The BGS are actively engaged in communication with the care sector but they are independent businesses #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #Physiotalk it’s good to know as it can only help and develop the work we do #AHPSupportWorkers when I came across the problem it was good to use the methods to improve the service we offered
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@physiotalk Yes 100%. Spread the learning from things that have worked well and things that need to be improved. Celebrate success and learn from failure #Physiotalk

@physiotalk QI is all about wanting positive changes to the patient experience. This should be encouraged at any level from #AHPSupportWorkers to students to registered to management and beyond if you have an idea then bring it forward, analyse and improve #physiotalk

Question 5 Tell us about a small or large change that you made that resulted in an improvement in the area in which you work. #Physiotalk https://t.co/g9yQ4cbBJa
Justine Greaves ( Croxton ) @Jusgreaves28
@chris_richards2 @physiotalk How you sell it is key to stakeholder, many see it as just another thing that you are asking of them when they are already busy. We use it after a complaint or significant event to promote change rather than a separate piece of work -joined up thinking /problem solve #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk I suppose the biggest barrier with any QI is time how much reasonable time can you put in to your project in my case it paid off and helped improve patient flow #physiotalk
Hayley Grice @HayleySGrice
@spiteri_anna @physiotalk #QI methods are enablers to ensure we maximise NHS resources by listening to;acting upon & improving care based upon staff & user experience. To support staff capacity & capability to offer the EBP care we all strive to offer #physiotalk #makeeverycontactcount @DCHSCET #QITwitter

Jonathan Topp @JonathanTopp2
@physiotalk Absolutely. However, we need improvement specialists and staff with capability to train colleagues. Colleagues need to be aware that QI can be messy and not always successful. #physiotalk
