Hi Sandra Harding, happy to join #physiotalk from the South West, here as @CSP election candidate.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
Catch me live on #physiotalk now. I'll do my best to answer questions (technology and 4 year old permitting)! If I miss anything or anyone I will do my best to answer after the event. Please feel free to ask anything about CSP council election and role.
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
Hi I'm on the @physiotalk account tonight from a relatively warm (ish) Edinburgh #physiotalk

HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
I was most latterly a lead for a National Physiotherapy Service. I have worked in both NHS and independent sector. Led surgical, GP fundholding, respiratory and final MSK teams before moving to a corporate tole. I'm currently also board trustee.#physiotalk

@physiotalk @thecsp Hi I'm Julia Tabrah and I'm standing for council because I am passionate about physiotherapy and I want to ensure that the CSP listen to, engage with and represent all members. I'm compassionate, I'm assertive and I'm listening #physiotalk @thecsp

julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk Networking, listening, engaging and acting upon members views. Kindness, compassion, empathy. Courage to challenge the norm and make things better. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
There are serious challenges as well as big opportunities facing the profession, we need to able able to navigate through these and chare that journey with members so that everyone has the opportunity to feel both engaged and involved. #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
1. Approachable 2. Listening skill3. Team player 4. Able to build lasting partnership 5. Aware of own bias and prejudice. 6.Champion well-being and resilience initiative 7. Promote Equity #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
@MelroseStewart1 @physiotalk #physiotalk there is a lot of engaging to do, the feedback is many members are becoming disengaged we need to change this.
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk #physiotalk be representative of the diversity of the membership, including diversity of the nations
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I'm always keen to know how candidates will be aware of the issues in the devolved nations. The health landscape in Scotland, Wales and NI is very different to England! #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
1.Facilitate conversation with different stakeholders holders. https://t.co/cfS682ngeF and honest culture. 3.Transparency #physiotalk

Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
Willingness to work collaboratively to bring change. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
#physiotalk We are standing not to go with the flow and simply slot in, but to understand what the members want to see and understand what Council thinks is achievable. We are coming with ideas for change, not simply fitting in means things need to change so that we can.
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
@MelroseStewart1 @thecsp #physiotalk Completely agree - big ask but hopefully accelerated using social media to be visible, ask questions, to get out there so to speak, and hear members voices.Aiming to get people to see us as approachable and a voice that acts as a conduit between themselves and council
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@MelroseStewart1 @physiotalk @thecsp Engagement is a 2 way street. Some members are burnt out, disillusioned and not keen to engage right now. We need to show them that the CSP is listening, willing to change and make things better #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
COVID has brought about major change We have to adapt to the changes and to demands placed on our profession in short time sometimes leading to increased stress, burnout. Well-being , resilience, Virtual consultation in my opinion should form part of our training #physiotalk
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk That discrimination still exists in our profession #appalling That we don't have enough physios in senior leadership roles That the public still don't understand what we do. That we are underfunded and underappreciated #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk Thanks for the reminder. Anyone who hasn't seen my replies, please do to #physiotalk , there may be a few missed ones.
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@Selva02646964 As well as the challenges, covid brought real positives- sharing, collaboration and enhanced understanding of each other’s roles (in and outside PT) - how can we build on this? #physiotalk
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk Support workers are the foundation of our profession and crucial to our ability to adapt and continually improve services. We need to create career progression frameworks for support workers with resourced training and development #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
1. Create an attractive, clear structure for progression for support workers. Keep it simple to avoid it becoming too bound down in bureaucracy. #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
Wider consultation with the support workers to create common framework this will help in timely career progression, Create resources to develop their skills #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
2.Highlight the value they bring to a service. Develop this across all areas UK rather then each doing it separately. Start to collaborate more and procrastinate less. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Sandra Harding is HCPG. Whoops, sorry for confusion anyone. #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk They are indeed very different. Not least because the populations, local needs and political systems are different (although devolved nations take some direction from English Government).
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Previously managed service with sites in Wales and Scotland as well as England. Only been 1000 physios but we managed to adapt and share and meet the various differences in legislation, inspection etc. The key aspect was staff being engaged to want to make it happen #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
This is the sector in which I have worked most latterly and where the network is wide, understand the frustrations and also the similarities, discuss these regularly - will bring these to the council too. #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk The CSP member report (2017-2020) highlights some of the differences from a quantitative perspective. Membership 84% England, 9% Scotland, 4% Wales, 3% Northern Ireland
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk #CSP4fairpay #withNHSStaff recognises the complex political differences in each nation. While Scottish CSP members chose to accept a 4% payrise, Welsh, NI and English members are still subject to ongoing discussion with the Pay Review Board.
fizyoblog💫 @_fizyo_
RT @julia_tabrah: @physiotalk That discrimination still exists in our profession #appalling That we don't have enough physios in senior leadership roles That the public still don't understand what we do. That we are underfunded and underappreciated #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk Mat Hancock, Humza Yousaf, Eluned Morgan and Robin Swann are all quite different Health Ministers . Quite a challenge.
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk CSP council need to create better links with the private sector networks, inviting more private physio staff to the table, actively involve them with policy and decision making and include them in promotional comms in frontline and external media. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
1. So many things that cross sector collaboration could benefit from. The different ways of working, The best practice pathways that exist. The challenges and shared frustrations. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
2. we are all one profession that should be in this and learn from each other, we just need to work out a more efficient way to do this and enhance the whole profession. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
The CSP should be promoting the values of Physiotherapy across all sectors, not just NHS. We need to agree what these wider values are and align them to those of the various sectors - this should start to faciliate a more cohesive and joined up service. #physiotalk
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk We need better representation in the national media to promote physiotherapy in all sectors. I have worked in the NHS my whole career but we need to promote our profession as a whole and show that all sectors are united #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@MelroseStewart1 @physiotalk @thecsp #physiotalk Ask the members that do engage. What has allowed them to engage? Did they always engage? What has changed? What were the barriers? For those who do not - we need to make efforts to find out why. Time? Family? Work pressures? Cost? Inaccessibility?
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@julia_tabrah @MelroseStewart1 @physiotalk @thecsp #physiotalk agreed. We need to be present and accessible. Some will not have the head-space for engagement at the moment, but when they are ready the CSP needs to be there.
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
We need to ensure what we do is better understood, particularly by the public. We are part of a wider rehabilitation service with other colleagues but often the public appear to be confused about what we do unless they have actually seen a physio. #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
As a CSP council we need develop strategies so that our colleagues in private sector are protected from losses faced during COVID. As part of CPD we need to explore business case writing, future proofing business in a sustainable manner etc.#physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk sorry! Getting the hang of it now.
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
@OllieCoburnGSR @Jusgreaves28 @Leishm1Philippa @physiotalk @BASRaTorg Definitely, this is my thinking around rehabilitation colleagues and collaborative working in all sectors. #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
Core values of NHS Such as Respect and Dignity, Commitment to quality of care, Compassion, improving Lives, closely chimes with professional standards of CSP. I would ensure that these values are not diluted by external forces. #physiotalk
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk Encouraging working from home to cut down traffic pollution, going paperless, switching to online voting for CSP council elections (this will also engage with the membership in a more modern and interactive way) #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk by working hard to push for apprenticeship, flexible ways of working and learning and truly recognising value of B3-B5 Support workers. I started as B3, completed a work-based degree in a Trust&University. I got paid to work and learn.
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Sustainability needs to start with our staff, acknowledging that things over the last 18months have had a phenomenal impact and that it is unsustainable in every way from personal to financial. Then we can start on further sustainability. #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk Best thing I ever did! I'm so grateful to the team I worked with as a B3 for their support and encouragement. Never knew it was an option till I met them.
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Real recognition and acknowledgement is key. I am humbled by the things I have seen happening and the actions that colleagues have taken. How often do leaders stop and say thank you - it really matters. #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk awareness needs to be increased!
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk Amazing places if we can engage the membership and re-unite them. We need to aim for better career progression at every level and promote our services at every opportunity to become world leaders in innovative and compassionate care #physiotalk
KB @KBNeuroinfo
@physiotalk #physiotalk thanks to the candidates tonight 👍🏻
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
We face 5 years of the greatest challenges but with that the greatest opportunities which is why we need to really engage with everyone in all areas if we are going to have an impact. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Health inequalities Mental health Our own health working health Increased technology Increasing patient centred care etc. etc. so much to face but so many areas where we can add value and have an impact. #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk hopefully increasing student numbers, developing people though a combination of NHS / private sector opportunities, becoming more specialised in a wider range of expert areas and being elevated in the esteem of the public and nations.
julia_tabrah @julia_tabrah
@physiotalk Thank you for the opportunity and thanks to everyone who got involved :) #proudtobeaphysio #inthistogether #CSP #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Have to leave many thanks everyone, great discussion. #physiotalk
HCPG @HCPG_Compliance
Good luck all. #physiotalk
Selvakumaran Loganathan. @Selva02646964
I see sustainable, adaptable workforce with good work life balance. More physios evolving in to future leaders of health care in the UK. Physio will lead change to better future for our society. #physiotalk.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk thank you for your time and the opportunity. Apologies for being slow to reply. I will do my best to get through any unanswered questions if you we are able to continue past time.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@IshmaelBeckford @MelroseStewart1 @thecsp #physiotalk couldn’t agree more
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@MelroseStewart1 @physiotalk @thecsp #physiotalk I fully agree. I find I’m dragging myself into the 21st century as well. Frontline has improved significantly, but we do not always have time to read a full publication. Today’s media is interactive and we all need to evolve.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@MelroseStewart1 @julia_tabrah @physiotalk @thecsp Apologies I keep forgetting the #physiotalk Agreed. The CSP is the membership. We are a union working together for the greater good and betterment of ourselves, the profession and wider public health. We need each other now, perhaps more than ever

@physiotalk Thank you for this wonderful opportunity and thank you to all csp members who take the time to vote and contribute to your profession. #physiotalk
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk Would be great to see #supportworkers having a greater role in teams. Supporting and filling the skills gap that is appearing with physios seeing more complex patients and physio undertaking fcp roles #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@AlexSpearritt @physiotalk #physiotalk that’s fabulous Alex!
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk We need to make every contact count. Embrace digital technologies, go paperless notes, offer virtual classes as an option to treatment to cut down on traffic and pts all having to come to one place when only we have to move...#physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk #physiotalk @JanetThomas47 how would you like to be engaged with? What have you found useful? What methods of engagement have not been so useful?
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk Links between the 2 need to improve. All should be invited to share their experiences, good practice and knowledge #physiotalk
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk thanks everyone! Don’t forget to vote! Plus if you’ve found any of this interesting, consider applying to be a candidate next time! I promise that the process has not been scary and each and everyone of you are highly capable.

emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk #physiotalk this is where my passion lies. I would contribute to a structured career pathway to allow for support workers to develop clinically but also in leadership roles. To have a national competency framework for supportworkers. Promote benefits of joining the csp
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk I’m supportive of the progress made to improve engagement and communications with PhysioFirst. There are many private practitioners/ private sector physios and support workers. The CSP needs to tap in to their networking, technological and innovation skills.
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk #physiotalk working in silos. So much good work is completed in physiotherapy yet its not shared for various reasons.
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk #physiotalk it will be an immense task and one I don't have the answers to but if you start talking and trying to understand all the areas then I can start to see the bigger picture but I'm.not afraid to ask, to understand and to do my best
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk communication is vital if we want to sustain our profession across all sectors. Physiotherapy is exciting! We need to remind ourselves of the plethora of avenues to take both in private and public sectors and promote this to students. We rock!
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk #physiotalk honesty, transparency and compassion couple that with a desire and commitment to want the best we can have. Doing the right thing and speaking up when things are not right. Be an inspiration to those around you and be courageous in all that you do
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@julia_tabrah @physiotalk #physiotalk I agree with Julia. Inviting a members to the table (so to speak) who reflect the range of expertise and scope of practice can only improve our professional coherence and overall success.
emma busby (she/her) @ebusby63
@physiotalk #physiotalk I am an associate memeber and have worked in the NHS for 18years. I am passionate about the role of the support workers , the benefits that it can bring to teams. I want to inspire others to be the very best version of them that they can be. Banding is not a barrier
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk I’m glad you asked this question. I hold a degree in Geography from the Kings College School of Social Science and Public Policy and spent extra time outside of my Band3 (prequalifying) rehab role tackling just this…
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk gone are the days when I visited over 100 small to medium businesses to investigate their use of recycling facilities and worked with the Environment manager to introduce recycling and pool bikes to @NHS_CityHackney (I hope)! …
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk my plan would be to encourage use of technology to reduce waste (where appropriate/ disability allowing) eg appt letters/outcome measures/leaflets. Encourage review of disposables (reams of theraband anyone?!), encourage use of walking/bikes/electric pool cars…
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk encourage procurement from environmentally responsible sources, connect patients with nature as part of rehab and ask the membership if they want us to do more? What ideas do they have? Lobbying Government? The climate crisis affects us all.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@MacgCass @physiotalk #physiotalk hi Cass. Yes I do support this, wholeheartedly. We keep it by continuing to provide a top service to the public, promoting our successes and doing everthing we can to be visible and relevant to the public. It is with their help and support…
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@MacgCass @physiotalk #physiotalk that the NHS will be sustained. We need to continue to lobby government to support education, making Physiotherapy an attractive proposition for students so that we can continue to evolve and better serve the public.
Gemma Scott @GemPhysioHealth
@physiotalk #physiotalk looks like the candidates are in agreement! We need to be highly visible in the national media to be understood, appreciated and sustained. This platform can be used to promote the value of the NHS and Physiotherapy as a profession which provides choice to patients.
