I feel I'm going to be slightly distracted during #physiotalk tonight watching the #AHPsactive pictures scrolling past on Tweetdeck as well... Fabulous to see so many though :)
physiotalk @physiotalk
Tonights topic is remaining active through your working lives - and beyond as well of course! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
So we are going to start tonights with a poll about your levels of activity #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
#Physiotalk. Lovely to see you on the chat this evening.

POLL Do you meet the physical activity guidelines (and remember that includes more than just 150 minutes of moderate activity!) #physiotalk (and be honest - its anonymous)

@physiotalk #physiotalk it’s good to be inspired by the photos. Plenty of time to be involved in #AHPsActive even if you’ve never heard of it before now!
physiotalk @physiotalk
I'll return to the poll at the end of tonights #physiotalk But now - onto the first question!
AnnPhysio💙 @AnnPhysio
#physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q1: Have you changed how active you are as you age? #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk If anything I'm probably more active! And the boost of a challenge whether that is #AHPsactive or Step Count Challenge in May does boost my activity as well! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
#Physiotalk
Sheila Doughty @SheilaDoughty
@physiotalk .Yes. Much more active now. Keen to focus on keeping moving as I age' #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@SheilaDoughty @physiotalk That's my thinking as well! See the impact of not moving on my patients has an impact on me as well #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk Probably not more or less just different in the way I do now. Used to be a gym shark and played squash nowadays it's a little bit of gym with running, cycling, swimming and walking #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
RT @SheilaDoughty: @physiotalk .Yes. Much more active now. Keen to focus on keeping moving as I age' #physiotalk
Anna Spiteri @spiteri_anna
@physiotalk I’ve taken up golf again after 20 years! #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@spiteri_anna @physiotalk Very impressive! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Onto our next and linked question... #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q: Have you changed what activities you do as you move through different life stages? #physiotalk
Shan Aguilar-Stone @sas1933
@physiotalk No, however have change the type of activities eg don't run 5 times a week, run twice and now do more yoga and spin #physiotalk
Carla Ellis @carlatrottellis
@physiotalk #physiotalk definitely more active as the decades go by, smarter rather than harder

RT @carlatrottellis: @physiotalk #physiotalk definitely more active as the decades go by, smarter rather than harder
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk Yes! Nothing formal when the kids were young - walking, a bit of cycling. Then motivated to run a 5k for 50th birthday - so started running. Then started going to gym 3 years ago to do more weights Now I'm back cycling again rather than running #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
#Physiotalk https://t.co/jnRPaIXB1U
physiotalk @physiotalk
@carlatrottellis Wondering if that's something that is mirrored in the general population? (Being more active as you age) #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk Hiya Gemma from Leeds a Physio Assistant I’ve done a dog walk today plus unpacking from hols so lots of washing to do #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47
@physiotalk I feel I might have to do a couple of runs for #AHPsactive in August though... #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk Kind of answered that in q1 but yes and as it should be trying out new things keep everything fresh and challenging #physiotalk
Sheila Doughty @SheilaDoughty
@JanetThomas47 @physiotalk Yes #physiotalk 10000+ steps every day for 5 months now and still going Pilates for 8 years Paddle boarding over the summer. Hard on a windy day. Great upper limb and core strengthening.
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #physiotalk I’ve always been active but always tried a verity of sports over the years. Now I just enjoy being active where as I used to play alot of team sport in uni years. Now enjoy walking, running and swimming
physiotalk @physiotalk
@SheilaDoughty @JanetThomas47 Fabulous! I have only paddle boarded once but it was great fun! #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@gvhawtin I did wonder if people would reply they did less team sports? Love to know if people are still playing team sports into middle age and beyond - I'm sure they are?? #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk Yes already answerd this #physiotalk would love to take it up again but I often go camping on weekends now so that keeps me active. I do like trying new activities though. Recently baught a paddle board and love it great for core #physiotalk and so relaxing

physiotalk @physiotalk
@SheilaDoughty @gvhawtin Do you think a barrier to remaining active is the risk of injuries? No idea whether they are more prevalent as people age or not? #physiotalk
Rhys Perrett @PureSports01
@physiotalk Yes. Kids change a lot. I used to play a lot of football growing up, then triathlon and now I’m lucky to get the gym 3 x a week doing some Olympic weightlifting. #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
Half way through the hour tonight! A little quiet tonight but will head on with the next question #physiotalk
BHJ Respiratory @BhjRespiratory
@physiotalk I've had to due to health issues #physiotalk (sorry, late to the party!)
physiotalk @physiotalk
Q: SHOULD you change what you do as you move through different life stages? #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@BhjRespiratory Welcome! #physiotalk
Carla Ellis @carlatrottellis
@physiotalk #physiotalk yes variable but wonder if unforeseen consequence of lockdown and enforced time inside is that people value getting out. Anecdotally I see more people out for a walk than previously
Claire O' Connell @ClaireOCPhysio
@physiotalk Yes. I am more active now and challenge myself now more than I did 10years ago. #physiotalk
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
@physiotalk I think you should do what you enjoy regardless of age as long as you can physically do it and it's not causing you harm only then you may need to consider alternative ways of exercises #physiotalk
Claire O' Connell @ClaireOCPhysio
@physiotalk @gvhawtin I joined a team in my late twenties... Had never been in a team sport before #physiotalk
physiotalk @physiotalk
@carlatrottellis I think you are right in that its more valued. Not quite as many people out and about as during the height of lockdown though? #physiotalk
Gemma Hawtin 💙 @gvhawtin
@physiotalk #physiotalk go with what you enjoy and live life how you want to. I’ve enjoyed trying a range of sports over the years and trying new ones. Never thought I’d run a 5k or 10k in my teens but now completed! Always make new goals never regretted any of the sports I’ve played.
Rhys Perrett @PureSports01
@physiotalk Can I answer with another question… why should you? For me it’s about time availability, if I had the time I could be fitter, stronger and faster than I was as a 16 year old. So no, I don’t think it’s a must to change, fitter 16yr olds might think differently🤣. #physiotalk

@physiotalk Much more active as I try my best to take responsibility for aging well. I know how much benefit there is to be had from it #physiotalk
Sheila Doughty @SheilaDoughty
@physiotalk You need to do what works best so may need to change as age and ability change. Try to encourage all activity in everyone however little to start with. #physiotalk

RT @MelroseStewart1: @physiotalk So true! Time and competing responsibilities dictate but don't we need to prioritise our health? #physiot
Sheila Doughty @SheilaDoughty
@physiotalk Bit of both but we should adapt not stop if our bodies can’t cope. Electric bikes, walking poles, etc. #physiotalk
Claire O' Connell @ClaireOCPhysio
@JanetThomas47 @gvhawtin @physiotalk I think I have realised the importance of goals as I get older, didn't always use them when I started running #physiotalk
Janet Thomas @JanetThomas47

BHJ Respiratory @BhjRespiratory
@physiotalk Activity changed for me due to health, I just couldn't meet insurance needs for competitive hockey and couldn't keep up like I used to, but amount of activity outdoors has increased and I've given more time to activity for my mental and physical health. #physiotalk
Carla Ellis @carlatrottellis
@ClaireOCPhysio @physiotalk #physiotalk maybe add rather than change
Chris Richards 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @chris_richards2
