Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses Oh yeah, forgot the tag #WeNurses I'll get there!
Alison Paterson 💙 @alimully @WeNurses Hello, this sounds easy but quite tricky in practice as you have different agendas and priorities especially in service provision. Its finding a middle way that works for both #wenurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses In real life it takes many forms depending on the setting. Within the community it involves population groups working alongside health professionals/nurses to identify community health needs and design appropriate approaches to address them #WeNurses

Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses In clinical settings it means a partnership of shared power. We work with the patients to identify their needs, the barriers to addressing them, provide possible solutions and interventions which we can support around, and support when patients make their decisions #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses In social media it is about nurses working to highlight the voices of patients describing their experiences, amplifying patient perspectives to ensure that all health professionals step outside of their health care bubble to hear directly from patient experience #WeNurses

Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @AgencyNurse @WeNurses 100%. I'm well connected with aspects of our services population groups in part because of my social media presence. Showing openness and welcoming is vital when representing our profession online. #WeNurses
💙 Lilian Wittman RN 💙 @lilian_wittman #wenurses hi everyone, Lilian from IOW. The pt/nurse collaboration is vital for the way forward in healthcare. It gives them the chance to have an input in the care and services we provide.
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @AgencyNurse @WeNurses Which is why many posts that go viral from health professionals, like that recent video where a health pro was claiming to know when patients are 'faking'. Those types of social media presences are very harmful. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @TurnerNurse @WeNurses Those gaps between physical and mental health pathways often feel insurmountable, and always very separated. That's definitely an area that needs more focus and work. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses Good working together means power sharing. The patient is the expert in their lives, and that context is vitally more important that our expert health knowledge. We are there to guide, support, and provide the best information we have, not to demand #WeNurses
💙 Lilian Wittman RN 💙 @lilian_wittman #wenurses the smooth process of sharing information with other members of the team, everyone involved is able to give an opinion about the best way to move forward.
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @sammyjb75 @AgencyNurse @WeNurses To me that non-hierarchical aspect is absolutely key to this whole discussion. If it's not grasped than working together isn't happening. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses I know it's been mentioned before, but letting patients write in their own charts/notes about their experiences, needs, what's working etc should be a no-brainer way to achieve good working together. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses To be honest I think understaffing and underfunding are major barriers. Stressed work-forces mean little spare time and energy. Even though it takes just a tiny bit longer it's often out of reach for someone near breaking point already #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @receivingconsnt @MedicineGovSte @WeNurses It's difficult, because we mostly see people in OUR spaces. This is MY office, I have the comfiest chair in the room. Or it's our ward, we know all the ins and outs, and routines. Space alone disempowers, and we need to actively counter that. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @receivingconsnt @MedicineGovSte @WeNurses So perhaps it's not that the power is ours to give, but the disempowering aspects of the setting and relationship are our responsibility to minimise and counter? #WeNurses

Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses Every initial appointment I have with a new person I highlight the fact that the best way for us to get better as a service and as health pros is through feedback from those accessing our services, complaints, concerns, compliments are all equally important. #WeNurses
Emma H RNC @nursingnoodle RT @Queensi21:
Emma H RNC @nursingnoodle I whole heartedly agree with this #WeNurses #StudentNurse
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses I think the first thing to understand is that policy is enacted on the front-lines. It's up to us how those policies are actually applied, and that allows power sharing even when a policy is designed in a specifically one-sided way. #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses But also, often policy is put in place by roles without clinical contact, and that makes creating patient-centred policy creation and influencing very difficult, even when nurses and patients combine together to influence policy #WeNurses
Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses But this might just be my own frustration coming through here #WeNurses https://t.co/85kSeKflbm

Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses Social media is very important on a macro level I think. It allows for the equalisation of voices in a way that isn't achievable often in a policy or MDT meeting. #WeNurses

Mikey Brenndorfer NP 🏴 @mikeythenurse @WeNurses Is it too hopeful to say we need to change the underlying culture that permeates through a lot of nursing practice that reinforces hierarchies? #WeNurses
