A1. While not really a routine, it's a strategy that helps me. I do my best to remember to "offer and suggest" ideas and resources to my parents. They decide if the offer and suggestion will work for them. Helpful to keep us all in a healthy place. #carechat

A1. I have two routines that keep the wheels from coming off. First, a morning and evening checklist that includes Dad’s meds, meals and cleaning sweep of his areas. The second is an eating routine that keeps moods and blood sugar even. #carechat

A1: Both routine's for my Mom and FIL revolve heavily around meals. Meal, activity, rest and repeat. Personally, I have a love/hate relationship with 'the routine'. Big challenge for me as a #caregiver. #carechat

RT @SustainableCG: Q2. When and why have you resisted a routine? #carechat
Jinesh Jani @Jhjani09
A1 My current caregiving responsibilities are not as intense. One routine I have is to speak to my parents everyday to check and understand all of their dr appointments. #carechat
Theresa Wilbanks @SustainableCG
@advocatemomdad It helps me better manage the unexpected also! #carechat
Matt Perrin @matt_perrin
@caregiving Love the comfort it provides for our parents. And for us a lot of the time too. Hate the monotony of it and how it makes our world feel so small and circular. #carechat

Q2. Right now, I'm resisting the routine of walking every day. I've been so worn out lately that I'm having a hard time finding the energy. The regular walk, though, is good for me --body and soul. #carechat

A2. Oh I resisted even setting a routine when I first became mom's caregiver! If I set a routine, then this new life was REAL and mine going forward. #carechat
Jinesh Jani @Jhjani09
A2 The reason I find myself resisting to a routine sometimes is because I take upon myself if something goes working due to the reasons which are out of my control. #carechat
Theresa Wilbanks @SustainableCG
@Jhjani09 That is a meaningful routine! #carechat

Q3. Routines help mom even more than me. She used to ask me when / did you do my pills, shots, etc. etc. Now she knows when it will get done which is comforting to her. She knows she can go into her drawer and fridge and see the fruits of my labor :) #carechat

Theresa Wilbanks @SustainableCG
A4. When schedules get hectic it is tempting to go rogue and toss the routines, but I’m getting better at modifying and protecting them with back up plans. #carechat
Matt Perrin @matt_perrin
A3: Sanity. 🤣. So much to manage. Then there's our life outside of caring (3 girls 12, 9 and 7) etc. Without routines we'd be sunk. Question we explore lots is how can we retain the value of routine while making it feel a little *less* routine. #carechat

A4. Mom and I work hard to spend time with family/friends in her home, go out to dinner etc. So she is not feeling so isolated. Last night she told me we are hosting Easter for 12 -15 people. I love it, but I have to plan for how that additional work fits our routine. #carechat

A5. When dad was hospitalized mom's routine and mine was thrown out the window. That's when I learned to ask for and say yes to help. #carechat

I had been consistently communicating in a notebook with Dad’s aide and decided that verbal communication was adequate. Life got busy and the result was zero communication which led to disaster. #carechat

Matt Perrin @matt_perrin
A6: We've learned to say no. and learned to get comfortable with doing so. #carechat
Caregiving.com @caregiving
I've learned that exhaustion totally destroys my healthy eating. I've been following the 16-hour intermittent fasting which has been so much easier for me. It's a routine I can keep regardless of my energy level. #carechat
Debra Hallisey @advocatemomdad
A6. Have an honest discussion with mom at the start of our weekends about what I can and can't get done on her list. Talk about who else can do it. Is this a need or want? Is this a "No, but" No, I can't get to the grocery store a 2nd time, but I'll go during the week. #carechat

RT @caregiving: A3. I find comfort in routines. With routines, I feel more in control which helps lessen my stress. #carechat

RT @advocatemomdad: A6. Have an honest discussion with mom at the start of our weekends about what I can and can't get done on her list. Talk about who else can do it. Is this a need or want? Is this a "No, but" No, I can't get to the grocery store a 2nd time, but I'll go during the week. #carechat

RT @caregiving: A6. Communication has been the best way for me to keep routines. I share the importance of the routines so everyone respects them. I then learn about the routines important to my parents and respect those routines. #carechat

RT @advocatemomdad: A4. Mom and I work hard to spend time with family/friends in her home, go out to dinner etc. So she is not feeling so isolated. Last night she told me we are hosting Easter for 12 -15 people. I love it, but I have to plan for how that additional work fits our routine. #carechat
