@DiabetesSocMed A1: with the caveat that this is my first #diabetes winter, I have noticed my blood sugars have been more stable than earlier in the year. Its like my insulin resistance is hibernating. Also, the dry skin, especially on hands. #dsma

A2. I’ve had people notice during hunting season their glucose and A1c lower and then go back up. I’d attribute it to increased activity. #DSMA

Q1 I notice in winter the extra heavier comfort foods seem more carb heavy and harder for me to work with. #dsma

Q1 Winter diabetes...I have to work harder to not snack and to get physical activity, which affects my blood sugar mgmt and my weight. And my basal rates. Eureka, maybe I need seasonal basal settings! #dsma

A1. In the past, I've noticed I need more insulin in winter, but I haven't noticed it this year. Of course, it hasn't been a very cold winter, so who knows? #dsma

Q1: I notice that I don’t move as much as I do in the summer which negatively impacts my blood sugars. I get lazy when it comes to tracking to the gym. I also tend to want to nest and eat warm comfort foods. #dsma #diabeted

I have very much noticed due to all the wet weather. Work out routines have suffered because everything goes indoors. Hence my weight is going up. Spoke about this with my doc today. #dsma

I switch to treadmills and function fitness exercises. No, or limited equipment needed. My key is intensity that makes me sweat. #dsma

A2. I like to walk when it is colder, so in the neighborhood was great in October, November, and January. December I was sick and February I suck and it won’t stop raining! I can’t breath outside in our hot and humid. #DSMA

@DiabetesSocMed A3: Winter in the mid-Atlantic means less fresh produce and sometimes just poor quality produce (I’m looking at you, super firm oddly pink tomatoes). So dial back the variety, using more spices and hot sauces to keep it interesting. #dsma

3. Lately I've been trying to go lower-carb to help my numbers. But winter usually means carbier meals. It's SO not fair. #dsma

Q3: For the most paRT, YES. I try and make lots of healthy soups and high-protein chili as main dishes. But the other part.... that part loves real hot chocolate and eats way too much cheese! #dsma
