I was 2 years old. Thirty... eight... years... ago. Good grief. #dsma
Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed
Q2. Do you consider diabetes a condition or disease? Why? #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava
A2. I consider diabetes a chronic disease. #dsma
The Practical Diabetic (Leon Tribe) @PracticalDeeb
@DiabetesSocMed A2 I'm not sure what the difference is but it is a disease in my head, a chronic one at that #dsma
Mike Ratrie @YOGA_O
@T1NurseFred I got the flu that started the autoimmune response @ 18.5 #DSMA
StephenS @StephenSType1
RT @DiabetesSocMed: Q2. Do you consider diabetes a condition or disease? Why? #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama
What a great question! I am totally intrigued by the answers of those with diabetes, and what HCP may say. #dsma @AADEdiabetes
Stacey Simms @staceysimms
Q2: I always say condition because disease sounds like it’s contagious. But I find I care less about semantics as the years go on. #dsma
Brianna @TheChronicCon
Q2: I guess Chronic condition. I feel like disease makes it seem like it can be cured. #DSMA
NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d
A2. oooh. Most often I think of it as a #condition, because it does not get better and it will probably get worse. However, when I am taking my meds, it is at that moment that I think of it as a #disease. #dsma
StephenS @StephenSType1
Q2. Both... Disease sounds like something I've been diagnosed with. Condition sounds like something I live with #dsma

Q2. A condition. A disease suggests something contagious (even if only slowly and with much difficulty) #dsma
ChrisV @Chri5solas
@DiabetesSocMed Q1. Age 10 #dsma
Emilie T @SweetHiyachica
A2. I guess I don't really use either word. I just say I have diabetes. I've never thought about whether it's a condition or disease until now. Interested in what the difference is. #DSMA
Martin Wood @woodonwheels
Tough question. Both. I tend to refer to diabetes as a condition when it affects life, positively or negatively. It's a disease when I'm referring to it clinically or pathologically. And when I'm mad at it. #dsma
Mike Ratrie @YOGA_O
A2. I like to refer to diabetes as a chronic condition, because folks react "differently (and not always helpfully)" to hearing "disease". Also, I don't think of myself as diseased, but having a condition (yes, difficult) that's a part of me. #DSMA
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava

Gautam Narang @hylozoists
Good Morning from India. #dsma
Janis N. Senungetuk @JanJava
@hylozoists Good morning! #dsma
Gautam Narang @hylozoists
A2. Maybe a disorder. #dsma
Brenda Bell @tmana
If it were specifically a *disease*, I'd suspect we know one or more causative microorganisms and be working on eradicating them #dsma
Brenda Bell @tmana
@hylozoists Disorder is probably the most accurate definition. #dsma
Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed
@Chri5solas We do not argue here. Your perception is your reality. We do not want to change or argue about it. That's what makes us all different and awesome.😊 #dsma
Mike Ratrie @YOGA_O
I think blaming the pancreas is an area we need to change. IMO the pancreas is the victim, especially in T1D. #DSMA

Q2= your thoughts and opinions. #dsma
NextWaveT2D @nextwavet2d
A2, part 2: I don’t know what the correct definition is, but in my self-management world, my thinking best aligns with condition, and I suppose that works best for me. #dsma
Chris Memering @zsquaredmama
@SweetHiyachica @iamsqueeisback @DiabetesSocMed Me too!! #dsma

StephenS @StephenSType1
RT @DiabetesSocMed: Q3. Let is sink in for a second. Do you live with diabetes? Or are you LIVING with diabetes? #dsma

Brenda Bell @tmana
Q2. When we know the exact causative factors for each different type of "diabetes", then we MIGHT be able to name "diseases" #dsma
Diabetes Social Media Advocacy @DiabetesSocMed
@iamsqueeisback Don't be sorry. I appreciate your honesty. Thanks for taking the time to participate today. #dsma
The Practical Diabetic (Leon Tribe) @PracticalDeeb

A3. Actually, I think I'm LIVING in spite of diabetes! #dsma
Gautam Narang @hylozoists

Q7. Not sure, because I'd have fewer options for dealing with it based on cost, dietary options, etc. That good early care helped #dsma

A7: for me, it’s too soon! I think I am approaching 1500 finger sticks (lifetime). I probably won’t know for another 5 yrs. That being said, if anyone sees me doing anything foolish or dangerous, let me know, I can use all the help I can get. #dsma
Brianna @TheChronicCon
Q7: I’m not sure. Probably be more stressed about cost. When I started my fist aduktnjob I made sure to pick insurance based on the fact I have diabetes. Otherwise i d probably have been like most 20 somethings who choose minimal coverage. #DSMA

Going back to Q5 - Govt has an impact on just about everything besides peer support. When you think about govt policies that increase/reduce the digital divide, then it even has a peer support impact as well. #DSMA

Q7. If I was dx'd today, I would not spend the years alone with diabetes that I did. I would seek out opportunities to be around other PWDs in real life. #dsma

@Donna_Apperson It's tricky, and age-dependent. As an adult, JDRF events, FFL has an adult track, and there's also ADA and AADE. Professional diabetes conferences can be very beneficial to people living with diabetes, as well as the professionals working with diabetes. #dsma
