@GbdocTChost Good Morning! #GBDoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost Evening 👊👍 all #GBdoc
Jonsel @T1showbizshizz
Freestyle libre or Dexcom? Many are praising Dexcom and it seems like such an amazing cgm, but the libre is going to be more affordable. Tough decisions to make, but an alarm sounding off warning me that mount hypo is about to erupt may just swing it for me #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
Morning #gbdoc! Ashley from Melb, Aus here. Living with diabetes since 2009, just hit my 10 diaversary. Favourite food: hashbrowns, mushrooms or chicken nuggets are my top picks!
Renza / Diabetogenic @RenzaS
@GbdocTChost Hey #GBDOC from sunny Melbourne (about to be en route to even sunnier Brisbane). I’m Renza and live with diabetes. Today, my favourite food is the #SpareARose cookies I made yesterday! https://t.co/QgqtaEqPPB
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
@LisaJeynd @GbdocTChost I love a good tiramisu! #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost Hi my name is Osob t1d for 30+ years, my youngest daughter also t1d diagnosed a year ago. We originally from Africa but grew up in sunny London. Fav food would have to be lasagna. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost David Burren, T1D and looping, https://t.co/X0XPZVP1aZ, Melbourne Australia (wondering if there'll be value in renewing my UK passport after Brexit). Fav food? Everything? #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost Hello all. 😀 I'm Matt, T1D for 32 years pumping NovoRapid on a 640G. I'm in 🇬🇧🇪🇺. Fave food? Anything veggie or vegan! #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost My name is Chris (conveniently put that on my profile too 🙌😂) , I’m type 1 diabetic and have been for 19 years and my favourite food is probably Chinese but I actually end up eating salad 🥗 more often than not 🙈😂⚽️ #GBdoc

Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@MelindaSeedT1D @LevelScoop @GbdocTChost Everything's better with..... Bacon? Butter? #gbdoc
Jonsel @T1showbizshizz
Hey #gbdoc it is indeed a pleasure to join you tnite. I am Jonsel, I have been t1 for 29 years, I am now on a pump and it is a sight of relief having grown up with syringes that were as long as cruella de ville's nails
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I treat my diabetes with injections (not by choice😂)but for my daughter with pump. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost A1: Humalog through a closed-loop pump system (AndroidAPS). #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@BionicWookiee @LevelScoop @GbdocTChost Bacon fat is better than bacon on bread. hahahah #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@diabetic_me @GbdocTChost Out of interest why no tech? #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost A1. I’m on multiple daily injections and have been for about 14 years. In the last year or so I’ve begun using CGM to help the blood glucose monitoring..... it’s a nightmare doing finger pricks whilst playing football/futsal 🙈. Made a massive difference!! #GBdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A1. Using the pump for just over a year now - love it! Before that injections for the last 30 odd years. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
I manage my diabetes with a pump, which I'm grateful to have after a lot of fighting. Ditched the metformin a long time ago. Coupled with being mindful and diet, I'm good to go :) #gbdoc
JIMMY #T1D 🇮🇪 🇪🇺 @Jimmy48carmen
@GbdocTChost A1 I've been #T1D for 30 years I have pump for 8 months and libre for 7 months #IreDOC #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
@nerdabetic @GbdocTChost Do you always have cronuts on hand? haha #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost Maybe I should say 27-ish years of injections, then 9 years of pumping, 1.5 years of looping. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@GbdocTChost Lewis’s favourite food is the kind you can eat #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@OceanTragic @GbdocTChost I don’t know where we went wrong on that front 😩 #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@diabetic_me @DiabeticJewels @GbdocTChost Makes sense. Not everyone is pro tech.#gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@GbdocTChost T2 I was 16 months old, Drs & hospital missed the dx, had to be rushed from 1 hospital 2 another, ankle cutdown to get to my vein, a few days in ICU, then a few more in a ward. None of which I recall. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@DiabeticJewels @OceanTragic @GbdocTChost A wrong thing #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@FrankSita U R a trooper Frank. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost A2. (AU) October 1982. Aged 14 almost 15. Only time I've ever been in DKA. I think I was in hospital for a week. #gbdoc
Richard Allen @allen_gunners
RT @cahmn:
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost A2. I was diagnosed in September 1999, at the age of 8 (yes that makes me 28, can’t believe I’m that old myself 😳🤷‍♂️😂)..... I was in hospital for 3/4 nights until we had a better idea of what was going on as a family. Mixture insulin wasn’t great though 😳 #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A2. I was 18 and in the 6th form. Had DKA, almost died, was in hospital for 4 days. No school missed as Easter holidays. Back at school on the Monday. A Level exams a few months later. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
I don't think I've seen such a busy tweetchat since #DSMA! #GBDoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I was diagnosed in India after many visits to the hospital at the age of 2 years old. I was in dka doctor smelt it from my birth and put me on the good stuff.Was hospitalised. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@OceanTragic @sotonDSN @GbdocTChost Chicken is an acceptable topping. BBQ most definitely #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@diabetic_me @GbdocTChost I used to have the same fear but now I am tech hound, give me,give me.😂🤣🙌 #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 19. Not sure when I "got" it. No hospital stay for me. Just lots of doctors looking at me puzzled that I have type 2 and none of the meds work. I still get that today as they try and work out what type of diabetes I have! #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@ellierosehuckle @fliss_r @GbdocTChost The attachment thing worried me when I first heard about pumping but it didn't worry me at all when I used it. Every1's diff of course but I feel so restricted w'out my pump now. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@MargaritaAliT @type1bri @GbdocTChost Almost-snap. My 36th diaversary was last October, and I've been pumping since 2009 too! #gbdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A2 #GBdoc I was 37, I'd had rapid unexplained weight loss and was feeling generally rubbish - constant thirst, blurred vision. Type 1 is in my family so I'd figured it out, went to GP who sent me straight to hospital. I was in DKA, but a few days on a sliding scale steadied me.
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@GbdocTChost By choice, after such a long time i'm irregular with my care. Do see an endo -who is fab occasionally. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@DiabeticJewels @OceanTragic @GbdocTChost Dislike pineapple on pizza? Sure you can as it is unnatural after all #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@BSugrTrampoline @GbdocTChost Haven't we all-or most, sadly :( #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
I think in Aus, most of the responsibility comes back to the individual to make appointments, keep track of annual cycle of care etc. Unless you happen to find a really good team/GP who stays on top of it. Too easy to slip through the cracks #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
A3 Oh yeah always eye checks-with an ophthalmologist back to annual now but probably one of the most important things to do. #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I get eye screening, Diabetic nurse,dietitian, consultant but I could ask for feet doctor if I want/need.#gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost A3. Well every 6 months I go and see my diabetes specialist consultant and nurses at the hospital. Everything else would be upon request .... can email them too. I get most of my advice from the online community now to be honest 🤷‍♂️ #GBDoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost A3. (AU) Usually visit endocrinologist every 3-6 months (have been some longer gaps). Formal consult with DE every year or so (but have her looping now so we chat online anyway). GP doesn't really deal with it. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@GbdocTChost A3, he gets 4 appts a year with an MDT of pdsn, dietitian, & the SAME consultant each time at one of the best places to go for cyp. #gbdoc
Emilie T @SweetHiyachica
@GbdocTChost Emilie, T1 for almost 11 years. Indiana, USA. My favorite food is waffles! #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@fliss_r @GbdocTChost Hope you get flowers and chocolate.😂❤😂👏#gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A3. Pump clinic with a consultant at the hospital every 6 months. Access to specialist nurses when needed. Retinopathy and foot check every year. Prescriptions provided by the fantastic NHS. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
@OceanTragic Sometimes we have that here, particularly with public endo's and diabetes educators. Once you'res discharged, the waiting list to get back on is like crazy. #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@OceanTragic @HangryPancreas Reason ppl miss D appts, r complex. MH is a big one, sometimes ppl miss to protect their MH. Discharging somebody isn't good care, especially if there aren't other options available. #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@OceanTragic @DiabeticJewels @GbdocTChost I don’t think anyone does really #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@DiabeticJewels @diabetic_me @GbdocTChost Hopefully you get somewhere, I know how frustrating it can be. Message me to let me know how you go,I could maybe point you in other directions if need be.#gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
@OceanTragic And there are many reasons why people don't attend appointments. They're often held during the day, and not everyone can take time out of school/work to attend. Travel costs can be a barrier. Fear of judgement etc. our healthcare system needs to be more flexible #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@fliss_r @GbdocTChost Very apt for Valentine’s Day 😍.... the unfortunate partner we never asked for 🤷‍♂️ #T1D #gbdoc
Belinda Moore @DIPadvocate17
@GbdocTChost Belinda from Victoria, Australia...happily & gratefully manipulated by #OzDOC! Taking a break on side of the road from a road trip between Adelaide & Melbourne where I’ve been setting up face to face peer support for women with T1D ☺️ #GBDOC
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@HangryPancreas Agree re Australia, the Kids' Hospital in Sydney does or did some really innovative things 2 ensure their former patients always kept up complication screening. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@OceanTragic @GbdocTChost I suspect my endocrinologist looks forward to our consults to see what he can learn from me this time. 🤣 My test results are so different to the rest of his patients. #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@arm80s @GbdocTChost Was the name soccer 😳⚽️. Love that 🙌 #GBdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@MelindaSeedT1D Good point. Eye-screening done separately (has been a regular thing for me for years, and picked up some other optical issues) and I get copies sent to my endo/GP. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
@MelindaSeedT1D That's awesome to hear! We need more innovation and creativity in healthcare too ;) #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@GbdocTChost A4 GP repeat prescription with little to no contact ever needed with GPand no money changes hands. Do get ocassional hiccups in supply but nothing that hasn’t been sorted out #Insulin4all #gbdoc
Reality Check @MelindaSeedT1D
@HangryPancreas Yes and it wasn't difficult, just stuff like even when u age out of our clinics, you can come back and we'll do comp screening-putting their money where their mouth was, so to speak. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
Just picked up my insulin yesterday from the pharmacy! $8 per box of 5 penfills of novo rapid compared to $200 per box. Test strips and pump consumables are also heavily subsidised here in Aus. We're super lucky. <insert plug for #SpareARose here #doit> #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost A4. Very lucky and privileged to be looked after by the @NHSuk so my supplies are free and collected on an agreed prescription by the consultant and GP. The only costs I’ve incurred has been surrounding self funding technology for a period of time 🙏 #GBdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A4. Don't pay actual money for supplies but I suppose everyone pays through taxes and National Insurance. Supplies not limited although questions sometimes re: test strips. I love the NHS and all they do for me though. #gbdoc
Sophie @SiHortumHabes
@GbdocTChost Evening #gbdoc. I'm Sophie, T1 and from near-ish to London.
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@DiabeticJewels @diabetic_me @GbdocTChost No worries anything to help a fellow sweetie.😂🤣🙌#gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost A4. (AU) Yes we pay. Insulin through govt-subsidised prescription. Strips and pump consumables subsidised through NDSS (govt again). Rolling 6-month quota on consumables but hasn't limited me. #gbdoc
JIMMY #T1D 🇮🇪 🇪🇺 @Jimmy48carmen
@GbdocTChost I get my supplies on the NHS I have never been restricted on my supplies I feel a bit guilty sometimes knowing that others are struggling to get there stuff #insulin4all #IreDOC #gbdoc
Serena Coleman @LiterarySa
@GbdocTChost A4 #GBDoc All prescribed by my GP, free of charge at point of access courtesy of NHS. When I was first diagnosed my GP tried to limit testing strips but I argued my case 'not testing for fun'
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost 4-I email or do prescription at the gp for my repeats such as insulin,test stripes,ketone test stripes,sensors,needles etc. I don't pay but they can be questions as to why I need these. Sometimes they try to limit things so I get the big words or dsn out.😂#gbdoc #bigwordsrscary
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@GbdocTChost A5. (AU) Pump through private health insurance. CGM self-funded (100% subsidy becoming available for a minority of PWDs, but not me). CGM ~AU$1600/year. #gbdoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@OceanTragic @GbdocTChost Warnings? Why? #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
Heck no! I was told about this amazing insulin pump then had it shut down by my doctors because I was type 2 on paper then and everyone said I was in denial of my diabetes. (people with T2 don't get pump consumables subsidised in Australia) #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@GbdocTChost A4 A day or so ago I was checking my NI contributions and it became crystal clear that in 25 years of them despite earning a reasonable salary they came nowhere near close to what the NHS had already spent on keeping Lewis alive and well. This is what makes Britain Great #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I have been told no before I was pregnant and during I was pregnant and after I was pregnant for the pump. Didn't really have much knowledge about what's available but now I do, I got the freestyle on prescription. With the pump I have no hope unless I move hospital. #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
Also, I was MDI and wanted the flexibility and freedom the pump offered. 4 years later, a change in diabetes team and multiple tests resulting in a diabetes reclassification, change in health insurance, I finally got my pump #gbdoc
Guardian of the Glucose @Colonelblighty
@happywombelle @GbdocTChost No such new fangled things here. I believe the reason was this part of the NHS couldn’t talk electronically to that bit of the NHS over there #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost A5. Limited choice of pumps on NHS. To get the libre in my area is impossible through the NHS currently as they didn’t approve it and will be criteria based from April. Very lucky to be a Dexcom ambassador and so receive CGM for free 🙏 #GBdoc
Sophie @SiHortumHabes
@osobgabdon @GbdocTChost Time to move? #gbdoc

Africandoll @osobgabdon
@SiHortumHabes @GbdocTChost Yes definitely for both me and my daughter I have decided. My daughter hasn't had a dsn since December. A lot of pressure on me to deal with it all. #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@type1bri @GbdocTChost A6. You mean these bri 🤷‍♂️. I carry a tube of these everywhere. The packaging is durable and you know how many grams are in each tab. Easy to do the maths then when treating a hypo! #GBdoc https://t.co/H3nYSNfinL
Sophie @SiHortumHabes
@MattJacksonT1 @GbdocTChost I'm with you on the veggie percy pigs and the veggie colin caterpillars are good too. Though if at home I go for Pineapple juice #gbdoc
Dr Ashley Ng @HangryPancreas
Sorry all, gotta run to prep next meeting. Don't forget o #SpareARose and donate to @lifeforachildUS. Thanks for a spectacular chat #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost A7. I actively promote it through the work I do with @TDFCdiabetes and our online work as well as the physical projects like the new @TDFCLondon all #t1d Futsal team we’ve begun 🙌⚽️ .... peer support and meeting others is soooo important to diabetes welfare I’ve found #GBDoc
Bionic Wookiee @BionicWookiee
@AndreaLimbourg @OceanTragic @GbdocTChost Any HCP who even uses the word "compliant" (non or otherwise) usually gets an education from me on the spot. #gbdoc
Matt 🇪🇺 @T1MattT1
@GbdocTChost A7. Didn't really know anyone with T1 for 30 years but have in last 2.5 years met fellow diabetics face to face on a social basis via online forums. Charities that I know of are JDRF and Diabetes UK. #gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I usually socialise online now being a full time mum gets in the way a little. I went to tadtalk and used to have a diabetic bestie but she moved to New Zealand,gbdoc has been there whenever I need someone.Meeting Adrian and everyone else has made diabetes less lonely.#gbdoc
Africandoll @osobgabdon
@GbdocTChost I know about jdrf and diabetes UK but don't really interact much with them. I think real life pwds interactions means a lot more. #gbdoc

@GbdocTChost @AdrianLong3 Wow, what a busy #gbdoc tweetchat, thanks for hosting !
My Artificial Pancreas @T1Bionic
@GbdocTChost A5. We can get pumps if we have private health insurance through hospital cover as pumps are listed as prosthetic devices. Adults have to fully self-fund #CGM ($AU92 per Dexcom sensor, $AU50 per Freestyle Libre) which makes it prohibitive for the majority of t1d in Aus. #gbdoc
Sophie @SiHortumHabes
@osobgabdon @GbdocTChost Goodness, hope you managing. That doesn't sound fair on you. #gbdoc
My Artificial Pancreas @T1Bionic
@GbdocTChost A4. Australia has a publicly funded Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme so our insulin is reasonably priced for all $AU38 per 5 x 10ml vials. Further reduced for Health Care Card holders. We have a subsidy for BG test strips on the NDSS scheme so around $AU16 per box. #gbdoc
Chris Bright @chrisbrighty1
@GbdocTChost @AdrianLong3 Quality chat Adrian .... well done buddy and a brilliant idea! Great to see so much interaction 🙌. Wherever you are in the world good night, good morning and good afternoon to you all 👊👍. That’s me signing off .... have a good one #GBDOC
